Find the Selwood comparison a bit of a head scratcher as I see Selwood as a seriously tough nugget and Walsh hasn't shown the same.

Can only assume it's the leadership stuff because they really are completely different players.

Walsh is a good young player and has every right to go 1 and as much as I also can caught up in the Lions sentiment with either they support the club, their dad played or their brother plays I want the best player/s. If we draft and they have the prior mentioned areas then all the better but I am backing in the club and current players to show the new draftees were in the up and that we can also assist them in being the best that they can be. I'm not upset that we won't be around the mark to draft Walsh most probably or that we might not draft Tom Berry as I back Ambrogio and co. to keep building the list identifying the best player at that pick. I might be leaning towards Smith anyways ;)

Hope the Dockers can hold off Port here. Given they play Carltank over in Perth later in the season you would think we would need to win at least four of our remaining games to leap them in the ladder now.

Three wins is all it would take to jump them with Freo's awful percentage. That would take them not winning another game though and they play Carlton at Optus so that's not happening. 6 should be the lowest our pick gets to.

Apologies for the link; gif I was trying to upload wouldn't work, even though it was <5MB, so not sure what's going on there.

Checking out the NEAFL game from yesterday, I thought these couple of efforts from McFadyen late in the 4th quarter were worth highlighting. Probably could've done a better job of finishing it off, but the body work, ground ball get, and work rate all stood out. He's already shown his overhead marking ability, but if he can develop his midfield craft, he is going to be a good one.

Probably not the correct thread but Jon Ralph penned an article about the Lions mulling over Casey Voss 2 hours ago, can't read it as it's stuck behind paywalls. I know he has played for the NEAFL the past 2 weeks, but think he's already 18, so an over-ager? Does anyone know is he a realistic chance to be drafted? Romantic thought but if were even 1/4 as good as his Dad!...

He is draft eligible this year, a bid is unlikely at this stage so we would probably rookie him. Showed a couple of good glimpses in the NEAFL.

Foolish to write anything off or make concrete predictions. Every year trade week throws up scenarios no one saw coming. All the permutations of player movements, free agency compensation, pick swaps, future picks etc make predictions as hard as Lotto numbers. Who saw the 2016 pick swap with GWS as possible halfway through that year?

Ultimately we just have to wait and see. No harm in discussion but people waste a lot of emotional energy speaking definitively on things that are almost entirely unforseeable.

Will probably go down as one of the best pick swaps in our history - In Hugh & Berry Out Pick 2 (Taranto).

Would love two live picks in, prior to being pressed to taking McFadyen.

Ideal scenario; 1 x top 3 pick, 1 x late top 10, 1 x 12-16 (Tom Berry?) then coverage for McFadyen.

Our first and second next year for GC's Lynch compo pick (#3) + their 3rd rounder this year - could take one of Walsh/Rankine/Lukosius/Smith

Trade down our pick (#5 or #6 - wherever it falls) for Adelaide's #8 or #9 + their second rounder this year - could pick RCD/Hately/Rozee/Caldwell here.

Could then package up our two second rounders for a third first round pick - coverage for Berry.

Leaving us with two 3rd rounders - coverage for McFadyen.

That gives us one of the elites, a very good second tier late top 10 projected pick player, Thomas Berry, McFadyen.

Wow - That’s some thinking there Beast if only that could happen and by letting it out it may just get the right people seeing it

The Crows would be open to that idea if they had reliable intel that somebody in the first 4 selections was going to go a King twin or 2. The question is would we be open to it. If we have a strong view that Walsh and Smith would be gone we may. Get Rozee and Caldwell? Who do you think would be around that mark briz?
How I see the draft probably is not a true reflection of the draft pool, so I really can't say with any confidence and definitely without any expertise who might be around mid first round.

The way I currently see the draft is possibly 5 elite talents in Lukosius, Rankine, Walsh, Smith and Nick Blakey.

For what ever reason, I'm not a fan of the King twins, probably because they're not a need. I'm down on them, I'm just not high on them.

After the top 5, there's a group of 4 players who don't really suit our needs or who are tied to another club. The King twins, Ian Hill and Tarryn Thomas.

After those first 9 there's a big group of players of quality players. Quite a few who could possibly climb in to the top 10, depending on performances and team needs.

The two players who I've liked since early in the TAC cup season and mentioned on here a few times, are Curtis Taylor and Xavier Duursma. Taylor can play up forward and through the midfield, and Duursma can play as a small defender and through the midfield.

Have had similar thoughts and hope like crazy that teams picks one or both the King twins before our pick (looking at you GC). But if we do slide further draft pick wise then I would swap Taylor with Rozee. Do like the look of Duursma but hoping for a slider like Caldwell.

Pie 4 Life has updated his latest rankings. Lions fans might be interested in looking towards the bottom of his rankings.
Updated post-Champs now I'm back from the Gold Coast. Some bigger movers from interstate sides, broadened out to 45. The 35+ bracket is pretty hard to work out, there's arguments for a bloke I have at 60 who could be 40 for example. Getting tough out there, but just want to throw some more names on the board.

Absolute best case scenario is that we finish about 14th giving us either pick 5 or 6 depending on GC Lynch compensation and if GC take it or force a trade. Adelaide go hard after pick 1 from Carlton in order to get their man. I think we could get pick 2 or 3 out of GC with a good trade (our first and a ready to go player) we take Walsh and they could still get the King twins with 3 and 6.

Can see us jumping the Bulldogs. They have the Saints and Carlton still to come so it'd probably rely on us beating the Suns and one other team and the Bulldogs only beating Carlton.

The BigFooty Phantom Draft trial run is underway for anyone interested. I’m selecting for us this year.
Smith! MELTS!

Meh. I would prefer Walsh at this stage, but I'm quite happy to defer to those who've watched more than 3 games of U18s this year (which is my current tally). It's also an exercise to promote discussion and awareness of different prospects, and your choice does that, so fair enough.

I really like Curtis Taylor, seems to have the attributes we like to target in mids. Can see him developing on a HFF for a few years as a dangerous forward with rotations through the middle as he builds his tank over a few off seasons
