They really should introduce an (optional) brother scheme like the father/son scheme. Where if a brother has 2+ years on their contract at time of draft, the club with the brother gets first dibs.

If that is the case, I would be VERY open to offering our first pick next year for a first round pick this year.
Really hope they rate this draft and if so, stick to the three year plan and trade out next year's picks to fully stack up from this draft. Would suit our age demographics etc, and certainly must be worth it if this draft is as good as they say it is.
Agree LL, there will be some good talent around our 2nd rounder, some others that may be available then- Chayce Jones, Jack Bytel, Jye Caldwell, Liam Stoker, Thomas Berry.

I'd love to get one of the big 4, and trade our first next year for a selection in the 5-9 range where we could get one of- Riley Collier-Dawkins, Connor Rozee, Jackson Hately.

It would be fantastic to get 3 of-

Bailey Smith/Sam Walsh.
Connor Rozee/Riley Collier-Dawkins.
Thomas Berry/Xavier Duursma.

+ Connor McFayden, Kiedean Coleman, Casey Voss.
Have stated and been open to this as well. Few issues as already noted but who would do it when clubs supposedly rate the top end quite highly, maybe not as much as Dal Santo. Also Noble has openly stated he isn't a fan of trading future picks but hopefully that's all smoke and mirrors. Lastly, we have to eventually start moving up the ladder and eventhough I'm not expecting finals next year I would certainly hope we weren't in that bottom 4/5 range.

We have a really good core of 18 -23 yr olds and with this being the last year of the draft focus this could be the draft that does set us up. It's evident that trading in or FA we have to spend overs in both draft picks and $ so the draft and our academy is where we need to focus IMO. 3/4 players from this year to add to the future mix with a possible 1/2 being best 22 even. We haven't even seen the likes of Ballenden, Payne or Starcevich. Allison and Cox have had quiet years game wise but have had another year to their development.

I'm hoping and expecting a jump up the ladder next year as well, best case scenario for me is we finish in the lower rungs of the top 8. It has happened quite regularly over the years where a team in the bottom 4-6 rises quickly the next year. 7th to 12th with 9 to 13 wins would be terrific.

So IMO this could be our last year of a pick/s in the top 5 of the draft barring trades for quite a while, trade out next years and back ourselves to rise up the ladder in 2019, the problem is though that the general talk around the place now is seeing us as a genuine chance to do that as well.

But what if a club knew there was a gun junior coming thru, then drafts his less talented older brother to exploit this loophole?

Do you mean Jason or Cameron?

Or did Collingwood doubly lose out by getting two less talented older brothers?

Is there a big difference between being invited to the National draft combine or the state combine? You can still be drafted by either like Starevich last year.
In Casey's case, not really.

It's more that a minimum of 5 clubs have to nominate a kid for a kid to get an invite, and each club was asked to submit a list of 50 players they wanted tested and possibly interview.

So Coleman and McFadyen both received 5 or more nominations. I think 80 invitees might be one the lowest number of invitees, so to just 45 Vic kids from the TAC cup, and one mature age Vic invitee.

Hope you don't mind me intruding - don't forget there was another Selwood at the Eagles being the twin to your Selwood so which team would have got first choice at Joel who has ended up being the best of them all;).
I'm guessing yours was born first.

Out of general curiosity, how come you were reading our draft thread and/or visiting the Lions page?

With your up and coming young list showing such huge promise, I just went on your board to see what everyone was saying etc. as like to see a side which have had their problems in recent times in keeping your list together etc show such promise. Your team has been playing superb football in recent weeks and am getting nervous when we play you towards the seasons end:think: Have always shown an interest in Brisbane, probably because you're out of Victoria like we are!

Wouldn't have mattered anyway. We would have beaten them when we played them which would have put us above them
No guarantees we also thought we had north covered at the Gabba last year . It just annoys me that whoever acquires lynch will effectively get him for free why everyone else will go 1 pecking spot back in the order . I mean how can you beat Sydney at scg then a week later lose to Carlton at home

At least we can go into the Suns game now with nothing to lose by pantsing them at their own swamp.

Actually nah, the gold coast game will still decide which one of us finish lower as we're on the same amount of wins.

This is the ladder predictor with the suns winning+ all the favourites winning.

Yeah every chance neither of us will win any of our other games so the Suns/Lions game will be the decider you would think. Nobody will get a PP.
