It could very easily be pick 6 if the AFL gives Gold Coast a priority pick on top of the Lynch compo. If they don't get one this year, that will be official confirmation the AFL doesn't hand out priority picks at the top of the draft anymore.

.

Why? They aren’t even bottom of the ladder, and have had a lot of talent out injured.

If they get a PP it will be end of first round. I reckon they have enough picks as it is. Will get 3 for Lynch and very well could turn that into 10 and 16 from crows (rough guess at picks).

Yeah no way afl gives them priority pick in first round . Would be outrage them getting 2,3,4. The whole process of how other clubs are effected draft position. Wise is bad enough . The Afl need to
Urgently change what the club acquiring a player of band 1 level compensation have to pay draft wise . Ritchmond could well up win the flag get pick 18 in draft which will be a old player and get one of the premier forwards in the Comp
Absolute joke .

So if the suns match a bid for lynch and force a trade (which i hope they do) will they still get a band 1 compo pick on top of that

No, the compensation is only if he leaves as a (restricted) free agent, not if he's traded.

Nah they will be hoping that a forced trade will give them more then pick 3 . Given their lack of senior players they may be happy with a first rounder and a player. At least that way whichever club gets lynch has to cough up . For instance tigers win flag and lynch nominates them suns can forge trade. I’d be asking for pick 18 and someone like (grimes, astbury, costagna,Rioli etc )

He took the lesser money offer at Hawthorn for 4 years. It was a similar deal to Betts, but Carlton didn't have the Melbourne rubber banding handicap. Melbourne also got two first round picks for Scully which is even more laughable.
Frawley's contract was $2.5m for four years (https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/s...y/news-story/5db19d8a93fc400e4457ee4b4dfc8b6e), which was substantial at the time.

Betts didn't get Carlton any pick because they recruited Dale Thomas on an insane contract.

Basically you appear to be complaining that Hawthorn and GWS gave big contracts to Frawley and Scully.

Reality check: the Gold Coast have been in the AFL since 2011, they've never made finals, and this is their 4th consecutive year in the gutter. AFL is under a lot of pressure to get them going, and there's even talk agents are blocking their players moving there because they're so bad. For them, pick 3 alone for Lynch is big unders, so unless they pull off a big trade, which is highly unlikely, I could easily see the AFL stepping in and adding mayonnaise to their compensation.

I thought Frawley signed for less and forgot about Dale Thomas. Even then, 625k over 4 years is a stretch for band 1, and I'm pretty sure there have been a number of similar deals resulting in band 2.

Two first rounders for Scully is a joke every day of the week.

Nah. Not with Carlton underneath them. Simply wont happen.

Thanks for th “reality check” though. Until you posted that, I thought the Gold Coast were a 150 year old VFL foundation club with multiple premierships.

You don't know what the AFL is thinking though, or anything about priority picks for that matter. Nobody does. The current rule states the AFL have discretion to award clubs priority picks when deemed appropriate, and nowhere does it say anything about having to finish on the bottom of the ladder.

So there is a chance they wont get pick 3 as compo. Which is all i was saying earlier in the thread.
No, you are dead wrong. If Lynch leaves as a free agent, band 1 is 100% guaranteed. Not even worth speculating.

That's not what he was saying dude.

I’m fully aware of the discretionary basis for the picks. I also understand the political environment the AFL operates in, as well as the recent precedents of priority picks. Recent history doesn’t support them being bad enough to get a band 1 priority pick, and the powers that be simply wouldn’t allow it. They will get an end of first rounder most likely.

Assuming suns finish 17, If lynch goes to richmond it wont be for the cash it will be more likely for success. Been reading he wont get the big dollars there so the GC could miss out on pick 3 as compo. Good for us in that case. Suns could match bids forcing trades so still unlikely pick 3 will end up with GC. Do Collingwood or Hawthorne have the salary cap space to pay lynch the big dollars needed to get suns pick 3, i dont know. Lots of wheeling n dealing yet to happen im sure but when all is done band 1 compo is no certainty.

Political environment? Powers that simply wouldn't allow it? Have you not been following the circus known as the MRP this year? Tom Mitchell is going to win the Brownlow after deliberately trying to elbow someone in the head.

The AFL couldn't give two stuffs about what other clubs think. They weren't too happy with the abundance of concessions the Gold Coast and GWS received in 2010-2011, and it would be same shit, different time in 2018.

Take off the foil hat, take a deep breath and listen to some other people’s opinion

Don't really care who we take this year as the cream will be long gone before our pick. Although I do hope it's someone with high upside/high risk. Those types are always fun to have.
You would probably think RCD is that then. Could be one of the best of the bunch if he comes good

Yep could be a blessing in disguise - win games + still nab one of the best players. The "cream" is often further down the draft where teams can afford to take a slightly risky option. Perhaps Rayner's pal Curtis Taylor?

Fingers crossed the Saints win one more before the season is out. And they may...due for a win soon, and they did draw with the Giants and beat Melb, so anything is possible. Even if we beat GC, and lose the other two, we will still get 4th hopefully.
