As nice as it would be, there is no way Dayne Beams is worth a top 5 pick. Pick 10 is probably pushing it to be honest. 15 feels more around the mark of a fair trade at this stage of his career.

I think if Beams was to go to Essendon it would be for their first pick and we might send our third rounder as well to make it more even. Just something I have thought about.

I don’t believe our third rounder back would be enough. But our second round pick is to much.

Maybe a pick swap of our second for their second (which is really late, currently pick 34).

No way we send anything back if he goes being contracted the deal has to be in our favour 100%. A team vying for a flag has to pay a premium to get contracted mid who is all Australian type player . Leaning over like that is why we been bent over in past . This isn’t like schache this is a proven elite player clubs can offer up or he plays for us and honours his contract . He isn’t going to leave a million bucks on the table and quit .

If Essendon want to straight up trade pick 8 for Dayne Beams, I'm all for it (if it's Dayne's desire to leave for Melbourne at the end of the season).

But when people discuss trades, I try to look at it from both sides the trade.

My belief is Dayne is not worth a top ten draft pick, more like a late first round pick. Our third round pick going with Dayne might be more even if we are getting pick 8, but if I were Essendon, I'd want a pick inside the top 30 back.

Beams is top quality, but you have to take how many more games they are gonna play into consideration. Late first round is around the mark i reckon.

We would no doubt love to get walsh, but not sure we would have the means to trade up. Can only hope someone like the Crows makes Blues a good offer and take some of the SA talent, and maybe Suns go for the Kings and maybe just maybe walsh could slide. Would say that is very unlikely though.

Thank **** your not our list manager then; perhaps we could throw in more given we best look after the club we’re trading with.

Thats a bit uncalled for. I agree with Briztoon in a way. You are gonna get really disappointed if you are wanting a top 10 pick cos l very much doubt we will get it.

Ridiculous misinterpretation. You are seemingly incapable of looking at this rationally.

Apparently the bombres r into Dylan Shiels according to tonight's news . They will need to throw some enticing picks to get him.

Yep, have been for a while.....might be a player and a 2nd rounder- Hawks Blues and Saints the others to inquire.

Most clubs would be aware they'd have to pay overs as he's contracted. We're not driving the trade.. They'll need to dangle the carrot to get us interested.

I didn't say he's worth pick 5. I said we should be "working with Essendon" to try and get a top 5 pick. That might mean we need to downgrade our second pick (19-21) to a third or forth round pick to land a top 5 pick. Not sure how, but that is what we should be aiming for.

At the very least we should be getting the same trade value as Carlton got for a contracted Gibbs. I don't understand how people are willing to take just a mid 1st round pick for a player like Beams, when compared to Gibbs (no disrespect to Gibbs). If that's his trade value then we would be better off keeping him. It would be very difficult to replace a player of that calibre, since we are a QLD team.

That wasn't Gibbs trade value it was overs. Why not compare him to the Ablett trade instead?

Garry injuries with his shoulder and elbow far worse then beams injuries also what some 5 years younger . If you want contracted elite midfielder to grab chance of flag it’s simple you pay overs . Don’t get talk of throwing anything back unless it’s still in our favour . If there isn’t a deal which is in our favour more then happy to have beans playing for us for another 2 years to shoulder the load.

Gibbs also didn't demand a trade. He was happy to stay. If Beams and the club think his footy will be effected then it might be more like the Schache trade.

Any discussion about Beams being traded comes with the understanding that it's Beams driving the trade.

Being contracted in todays trade market doesn't mean what it used to mean. There aren't many clubs that will keep hold of a player against his will.

I have a bad feeling about where GC's and Carlton's PP's are going to be.

The AFL is preparing for Carlton and Gold Coast to make applications for priority draft picks at the end of the season.

The expectation from the league is that both clubs will apply, as they must to have a chance of receiving an extra draft pick under the rules. Carlton and Gold Coast have won two and four games respectively in 2018, occupying the bottom two positions on the table.

In preparing for the probable applications for draft assistance, the AFL will consider the positions of both clubs and the quality of their playing lists. The league has already undertaken some analysis of the playing lists of Carlton and Gold Coast.

AFL head of football Steve Hocking and the league’s general counsel, Andrew Dillon, are understood to having been taking a broad look at Carlton and the Suns. Under the system, the AFL executive will make recommendations on whether the clubs should receive assistance, with the AFL Commission the final arbiter.

Gold Coast had picks 4, 7, 9 and 10 in 2016. When is the AFL going to realise that draft picks are not the solution to their woes. We also have 4 wins and if we lose this weekend we will conceivably finish below the Suns on the ladder. Are they considering us for a PP too?

Doubt it...."At this stage", he would have already informed the club and management that is his intention.... that may change..time will tell..Not sure we are "holding him against his will" though and so the destination club will be fully aware they'll have to pay extras

Would be a travesty for them to get priority picks ahead of us.

Especially if we lose against them Saturday moving the Suns up the ladder...Surely then, the Saints and us would get one.
