Hadn’t stopped the AFL giving back to back priority picks in the past.

Wont happen now. I reckon if we had another really poor season, they might have. But we showed enough this year for them to at best say lets leave it another 12 months and see what happens.

I dont discount what others have said, and yes we have been probably the worst team over the last 10 years. But the AFL just doesnt want to help us. We have to suck twice as much for twice as long as a club like Carlton.

In saying all that with PP being given at end of first round i think it enables them to give picks out easier then top 10 picks. Really, even an end of 2nd round this year would be handy for points for us this year.

I won't be critical of Calrton trading out senior players for draft picks when we have done exactly the same the last two years, when we traded out Hanley to the Suns, and then let Rockliff walk for the compensation pick.

What I do find a little concerning is that we have the same win loss record as the Suns when we've lost very few best 22 players to injury through the season compared to the Suns and Carlton.

Still highlights how far our list has to go.

And I would still be putting in a PP application and using our good run with injuries to highlight how fragile our list still is.

We do not deserve a PP. We have too good a team for that. Simples.
Disagree. We have won 19 games in 4 seasons. The worst in the comp. Won one final in 13 seasons...

4 wins this year with basically a full list all year. If we lose to Gold Coast we will finish 2nd last. We absolutely should be requesting a priority pick, especially if Carlton and Gold Coast get one.

A team with a percentage around 90 in the current season irregardless of previous history will never get a PP unfortunately.Hopefully our golden injury run has not masked our true abilities.

Well, yes and no. Losing 5 games by a goal means 5 goals off being on 9 wins. Our percentage is also quite high given our ladder situation. Yes we've got a way to go, but with some luck we could be on 9 wins and we'd be Discussing how good the season had been. Would 5 goals REALLY make us that much better than we are now? I don't think so.

No reason we can't take the step up to around 10 wins next year.

Who can predict one year from the next. Yes we've had a fantastic run with injuries and (touch wood) that might change next year. However, another year into our young crop and that transition might come sooner than expected.

Watched Bailey Smith's clips the other night and I think (at most probably) pick 5 he's the one for us. I know he had his issues with his achiles and hopefully school footy has finished and he's back playing TACCUP as would like to see how he finishes off the year.

On Footy Classified this week Caroline Wilson was suggesting St Kilda, Carlton and Gold Coast should all get priority picks.

Would be madness if that happened - even if they were all end of first round like ours recently.

Comparing the players Brisbane have moved on to Carlton is RIDICULOUS. We have moved on two best 22 (3 if you include Redden but he wanted out) compared to their 8.

And we moved on players that clearly were past their best football, and on a downward trajectory (also injury plagued). Whilst all the players Carlton have moved on were either in their prime or still playing very good football!

Do you honestly think Carlton would be in the same position if they still had Henderson (FB), Tuohy (HB), Gibbs (C), Grigg (C) Waite (CHF), Robinson (HFF) Betts (FP), and Garlett (FP) running around for them?

They only have themselves to blame. Carlton has the luxury of a huge supporter base, with high class facilities, and they are located in the heartland of their sport.

Not to mention they have not faced the same retention issues we have (we got SFA in terms of fair compensation for a number 2 draft pick by the name of Schache last year, who seems to be flourishing playing back in Victoria).

Being a Melbourne-based supporter it infuriates me how our club is constantly forced to piss into the wind, whilst all the Victorian clubs get coddled.

The biggest single influence on a PP is the result this weekend, if we finish below GC we will get one (along with Carlton and GC, who both look like getting one) if we finish clear of those 2, the AFL have enough reason to point to our percentage and our reasonably strong performance this year.. and strike us off the list with those 2 clearly being the 2 worst in the comp.

They look for what is publically palatable, if we finish below GC and dont get one the public will say its insanity, if we are above them the public will except only those 2 getting a pick.

This is more than anything, the pick 2 and priority pick cup.

We have only won 16 games in the past four seasons

Personally I don't think we should get a priority pick. Yes I think we should ask, especially if we do finish below GC, but at the end of the day we shouldn't get one. Realistically, we are considerably closer to playing finals that Carlton or GC (and even St.Kilda) and that should impact if we get one. If us and Carlton were in opposite positions, we would be outraged at the idea of them getting one. Should be no different just "because its us"

You can’t say with any certainty that we are closer to finals than either of the 2 other teams.
Yes, we have had a much improved year but we have had a good injury run. If we had had similar injuries to the other 2 teams we may have only won 1 game this year?
To base a pp on who is closer to the finals is just plain wrong.
St’s very nearly made the finals last year and were expected to do so again.
There are no guarantees in the his world!
We meet all criteria to again get a pp other than percentage.
It will all come down to this game on Saturday night.

I agree. Predicting how a team will play in the next few years shouldn't be a part of it. Should be based on how bad they've been for the past 1-3 seasons. Based on that we should definitely get one before the Saints.

Some big changes coming to the TAC cup including all northern academies participating in the full season and streaming of games: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl...nior-football-revolution-20180817-p4zy1g.html
We might end up with a "College system" in a few years. This will enable them to raise the draft age to when players are a bit more mature and recruiters won't have to guess as much.

The NFL has 240 Colleges and Universities supplying players for their draft.

Andy Maher on SEN re potential PPs-

There will be priority picks, he has mail that-
Carlton pick 3 PP.
Suns pick 4 PP. + Lynch compo.

So Carlton get picks 1 and 3 and the Suns get picks 2, 4 and 5.

That'll be horrible. This is touted as the best draft in a while and it'll be compromised almost as badly as 2010/11 if this goes ahead, except we're not dealing with expansion teams this time.

And that is what I was afraid of.
Leaving us with pick 7.
