That was my first thought in general, but given how poor the AFL's track record has been in managing this kind of thing I'd almost rather someone with skin in the game to be massively involved.
True. But I'd love to know what someone like a Paul Connors thinks of it. Having TLA staff with un-monitored access to ever quality junior year round ....

And for Kelly it's pretty simple, make it a much smaller and simpler version of the college systems and then let it grow.

I know Jay pretty well and he is saying very big Chance of these priority picks being awarded at the front of draft to Calton and Gold Coast. He also genuinely believes lions would be pretty aggrieved by process if that was the case based on super draft and fact we got end of first round 2 years ago when our list was in just a bad possision and mad exodus’s of players . Fact at end of the day AFL is run by bunch of muppets who have no other agenda then their own and they can accept was is only tolerated in wider afl
Community . We need to hope
All other 16 clubs kicks up a massive stink about these priority picks.

Do you speak to Jay on a regular base? Be interested to know if the source of the story was within AFL or another journo source as suggested...Got to say it spread fairly quickly yesterday with a number of sports media outlets reporting it roughly around the same time..It was weird because the story I was interested in hearing "Changes to the TAC cup" was pushed into the background...

Ill seriously be pissed if this year the AFL all of a sudden open the flood gates on PP's when we have been begging for something decent for the last 4-5 years.

It would be so typical of our luck.

At some point all these coincidences where we fall afoul of AFL changes in policy stops being luck...

True that you make your own luck, but What do you reckon we would have to do to so we don't fall afoul of policy changes?

So far we have managed to avoid being the first club to have home games scheduled on Venus...

I think the rest of the quotes by Hocking are important context.

He basically ius saying that they will never entirely rule out giving clubs a start of first round pick but implying that it would probably be very rare.

He also said that the views of the whole competition would shape priority pick allocations. Then he goes on the talk about the Suns having a lot of high end draft picks as it is and that adding extra kids isnt necessarily what they need.

Yep, agree with TBD, I just listened to it and that was what I got out of it. There will be no PPs at the top of the first round.

Ok, do you get the impression that behind the scenes Hocking may have talked to the Suns on what sort of 'wish list' they require? If they are awarded high PP's, IMO, they would most definitely trade them.

For another gun like Weller?

Maybe we should offer them Taylor or Matho

So if there were two busses bringing the team back from Metricon and one of them crashed wiping out half of our playing list and game day support staff *and* the rest of the competition / public felt sorry enough for us *and* they felt like helping out we *might* get one of those pre-draft pp's?

“Stop complaining Lions, Tasmania would kill to have half a team”

Interesting that he only mentions GC as being flush with top end draft picks?

Significant with the introduction of live pick trading allowing clubs to swap picks to move up or down the draft order while the draft is underway.

I think it is very unlikely that they award start of first round PP's - its a very dangerous precedent to set to suddenly do that on a whim. They have spent so long unpicking the idea of teams getting PP's - it would be an enormously head scratching 180 pivot in direction.

Dunno The AFL will be feeling the heat with the need to fast-track the Suns... it's fortuitous for them that a supposed big Vic club is also at the bottom of the ladder.

Hocking said a decision hasn’t been made, but isn’t willing to rule out the possibility.
“That’s yet to be decided as to where (the pick) would get placed,” Hocking told SEN’s Crunch Time.

If we honestly believe they will, we desperatley want to lose tonight, because they couldn't do it for the Suns and not us if we are below them.

Doing our best to

I wouldn’t mind pre draft picks if it meant all of Carlton, GCS, StKilda AND Brisbane getting them...

PP1 Carlton
PP2 GCS
PP3 StKilda
PP4 Brisbane
Pick 1 Carlton
Pick 2 GCS
Pick 3 GCS (Compo)
Pick 4 St Kilda
Pick 5 Brisbane

Haha
