Tom Stewart just made the AA team. Absolutely believe we should be looking at a mature aged recruit with our second or third round pick

Would agree. Games are won in the mid field and think with McStay/Hipwood and with Ballenden,Fullerton,Wooller et al developing in the twos we are okay for KPP. Not to mention more in the academy pipeline. Quality mid fielders should be the priority at the top end of the draft.
If you're thinking Tozer, I wouldn't be counting that egg.

From the Herald Sun

Carlton’s priority pick could help secure Mitch McGovern in trade
August 28, 2018 ADELAIDE will set its sights on Carlton’s priority pick in a trade for Mitch McGovern, believing the Blues will eventually be handed a mid first-round pick around selection 12.

The Crows see McGovern’s strong link with Blues assistant and former Adelaide forward line coach David Teague as be a strong factor in him potentially getting to Carlton.

Carlton chief executive and president Mark LoGiudice met with the AFL Commission on Wednesday to discuss their plans to improve, which involve being granted a priority pick by the league.

Their clear target area for their list is securing more midfield support for Patrick Cripps and Zac Fisher, but with a young forward line McGovern would also hold some appeal.

Already multiple clubs have contacted the Crows over McGovern, who officially asked for a trade out of Adelaide this week.

Carlton seems wedded to keeping the No.1 overall pick for Geelong Falcon Sam Walsh.

He is the perfect package — a midfielder with tricks and pace who oozes leadership, awarded a vote by every player in the AFL Academy as this year’s Ben Mitchell medallist recognising courage, trust and commitment.

If the Blues do receive a priority pick after the draft selections handed to non-finalists it would placate an Adelaide football department still unsure why McGovern has walked out on the club only a year after signing a deal.

So if Carlton get mid round 1 and GC get the same, do we officially ask why we got end of round a few years ago?

If, as speculated, Carlton and Gold Coast get mid first round compensation picks (i.e. after the non finalists' first picks), we, St Kilda and Freo will be the biggest losers. Assuming GC get pick 3 as compensation for losing Lynch then the first and second round picks will be something like this before trades:
Carlton - 1, 12, 27, 28
Gold Coast - 2, 3, 13, 20, 29, 32
St Kilda - 4
Lions - 5, 25
Freo - 6
Add to that the fact that some top ranked Vic team will get Lynch for nothing in draft terms. That must be what equalisation looks like.

Genuine A-grade magnet.
Bottom line we need some depth and spread in the engine room but to get elite depth - get it done!
Wish list:
Neale
Wallis
Jayden Hunt (if cheap)

Realistically, McFadyen might not either.

Any word on us not rating him or just a general comment that we might lack the picks given his draft range?

If a bid comes in round 2 and we rate him, we can always go into points deficit on our second next year.

I have expected our first two picks to be 5 and 25 for weeks.

Pick 3 to Gold Coast as compo for Lynch was always on the cards.

And it didn’t matter wher GC’s and Carlton’s PP’s were mid first round or end of first round, they were always pushing our second pick back.

I’m still waiting to see if there will be any other end of first round or beginning of second round compo picks handed out.

I hope we can manage to get young Thomas Berry....we will need another set of brothers as is tradition with us.

The Voss, Scott and Beams brothers, just to name a few.

Tradition is a wonderful thing;)
