They have given us a b+ on our trading this year . They really are talking up lachie Neale. Noble seems quite content .
I actually see Neale as an upgrade on Beams for his inside work. Don't get me wrong I really rate Dayne but I think as our younger players mature they will help fill his role.

Agree, if it was a straight out choice of who would you rather have on your list it would be Lachie, much better fit for our needs ie. inside mid, age profile and setting us up going into finals contention in 2-3 years.

Yep Beams is nowhere near Neale's quality when it comes to actual clearance work. Neale averages more and does so at a freakishly good DE for an inside mid.

If we could manage to trade up with what we have and with what we have gathered in next yrs draft to something in that 10 to 12 range id hope we could get jackson hately, big bodied inside mid, has been playing against the bigger bodies of men in the sanfl. I know the fight will be on with the sa teams to get him but i think he would be a great fit.

The argument to get the brothers in, tom berry n jarrod cameron, is an interesting one. Both have talent in areas of need. I think injury has tom underated, early reports of speed and agility, and that ball before body aggression would make him a target even if he wasnt jarrods brother. Id take him. jarrod cameron is a charlie clone in ability, may have a bit of a rogue side but im sure being with his brother would sort that. He certainly fills a need for more sm fwds to come through. while he is tied to the eagles via its nga, west coast have only 2 draft picks, an early one and one very late. They have also said ages ago that he isnt a priority for them but if he is there at the end of the draft we'll take him. He is a chance to get him if we want. I also think that the lads could use a bit of feel good news at the club with the loss of beams. Beams was certainly an influence and role model to many of the young players im sure, as possibly claye was as well. It would reinforce the family club image and culture and ease some uncertain, confused players. Also a good retention strategy in a few yrs.

Mcfadyen is a yes, coleman would nearly be a yes too. I know we dont have the list spots/rookie spots to get them all but all would benefit the club.

On the topic, where do people envisage Jarrod Cameron falling (assuming WCE does not take him with their first)?

Great to be on this thread again - now that we have a first round pick.

What are people's thoughts on paying out Frost's contract and trying to bring in another draftee / mature ager?
Mitch Grigg or Mav Weller might be two to look at, even for a rookie spot.
I think we may bid on Jarrod Cameron at 18 forcing WCE to use pick 20. But Liam Stocker looks like the type of player we could do with.

Nobles interviews today indicate we want a midfielder at 18

Regardless I don't think Cameron is worth an early pick

At a guess, in the 35 to 45 range.

In my opinion, there's a bit of a drop off talent wise somewhere around the mid 20's of this draft, with quite a few Academy and Father Son kids potentially filling the late 20's to mid 30's positions on some draft boards.

As the draft currently stands, we might need to rely on the SA clubs prioritising adding SA talent and reaching a bit for some local players, otherwise we could be looking at one of two SA kids with our first pick, in Luke Valente or Jez McLennan.

I really liked SA's captain, Valente's performances at the U18 Champs, but he's more a work horse type in and under midfielder, who lacks pace and x-factor. Also in discussions with one draft watcher, when asking about Lions 2019 academy member Will Martyn, he was likened to Valente, so this would seem like doubling down somewhat.

I'm really not that keen on the spot where our first pick will end up, around picks 20 or 21, and feel that all the kids us fans might really like will go in the picks just before, with the possible exception of Rayners mate, Curtis Taylor.

Before the the season started, Curtis Taylor was seen as a borderline top dozen talent in this years draft pool. He has good size, serious ability to hit the score board, and some x-factor. But he just didn't put together a consistent year. He looks like a case of the talent is there, he just hasn't been able to put it all together.

He also plays in positions where we're not short on young players already, with the likes of McCluggage, Cam Rayner and Brandon Starcevich. And while not doubling down on the same position, Tom Berry would also be fighting for time between the midfield and forward positions if the club is keen to add Jarrod's brother.

I think west coast will take the best available talent with their first pick, mid or possibly a defender for the long term. The eagles have some good small fwds, they dont really need another. He could go early with the value placed on fast, tackling sm fwds that can kick a goal these days. Could easily be seen as a bit of a wild child risk and be left well alone. But i think 40-45 could be about right. If he was available at any of our picks in the thirties, as we have now, id take him. Playing/training with his brother , living with family, could see us get the best out of him. Other than charlie, and now mccarthy our stocks of genuine sm fwds are vacant.

Noble has mentioned more than once in recent days that we want some pace. A few of those mentioned here don't have much, including Stocker. I'm wondering whether McHenry might be closer to our desired profile with his pace and agility, albeit more as a small forward than a midfielder at this stage. He seems to have the endurance to play more midfield (6th in the 2km trial at the Combine). Also that guy Sturt looks a likely type. any assessments of him?

Jones, Clark, Duursma all have some pace about them and like to run.

Indicators suggest he has huge upside.
  • Tested well at Combine (top 10 in JumpR, Sprint & Agility
  • Has had little (or no) Pre-Seasons (focus has been on Cricket*)
  • Has not had the Elite pathway advantages (but still stood out when injected into TAC side late in the season)
  • From the games I watched - gets good separation on the lead, has strong hands, can also take grab in a contest, more than competent at ground level, reasonably good by foot - Have him as one I will consider "in my Draft", depending on where our picks end up and who is available
*Spoiler - Not sure he has officially fully committed to Footy/The Draft as yet - Others on here may be able to confirm one way or the other

Opted for AFL over Cricket as far as I’m aware.

Thanks.
I remembered, after I posted, that you have to have committed before you can attend the Combine ... (unless that has changed recently).

Ive never laid eyes on Taylor, but he sounds like a douche in the Jake Stringer mould (not just from this post either).

Well coming from you Dylan that means he’d be a great bloke. You probably think Gandhi was drama queen
To be fair Gandhi's tendency to nuke everything is a bit unfortunate.

Less than 1 percent of people in this thread will get that reference, and I am ashamed to be one of them ;)
