Jarryd Lyons in, Serious get for nothing.

Couldn’t and still can’t understand why he was dropped during the year. So underrated- an excellent get for us. And for free.

Gotta wonder what is going on down the road. Wonder if dew their version of Leppa with a very in your face approach. Hope not, they can’t afford more years of increasing irrelevance.

I just can't recall Lyons readily, geez hius stats are great! But I'd like to ask more learned people on here. is he a Best 22 for us in 2019?

The article up on Fox Sports now would seem to suggest that this was a win for Lyons,GC and us.

He is not without weaknesses but as an inside midfielder capable of high numbers for contested possessions and clearances, for the price we paid we certainly can’t complain.

Lyons pickup probably ends the idea of us being interested in Tom Berry with a primary list spot.

Cal Twomey and a few others have recently been pushing Berry back to a late pick or Rookie. Twomey gets good info from recruiters, so I'd say that's likely where he's sitting.

The logic would've been Picks 18, 24, 43 (McFadyen), 62 (Berry) being the four picks. Without moving someone else to the rookie list, which I believe today was the last day for, that'd imply that 62 won't be used, and will probably be traded.

Short of us trading 18 or 24 for a future pick, I'd say we'd only take Berry if he slips through to Rookie.

Edit: Using old picks. 18, 30, 35, 56. Same logic applies. 56 would've been Berry, now likely traded.
Agree they'll be hoping berry goes into rookie draft

We could go after the Bulldogs pick 27, which they are likely to lose with a bid on Rhylee West expected a little before their pick 27. Offer picks 35 and 56 for 27 and 75. It's pretty much a wash on points, and not much incentive points wise for the Dogs to go for it though.

Likely competes with Mathieson for that contested mid on the bench spot. Is ahead of Mathieson as he has better endurance and runs harder defensively than Matho.

Increases our midfield depth. And makes it harder for one of the kids to much their way in to the team. Guessing spots really will have to earned from next year.

Does he? Thought this was one of his problem areas and a big reason he was delisted

The way I see it, you can't be top 3 (?) in the comp for contested possessions and clearances without having a good work rate.

He is an elite ball winner, and he should probably be starting, but I just can't justify starting any other inside guys on the bench if we are rolling with Neale/Zorko/Berry.

Reading that, methinx we have been seriously undervalueing Dom Ambrogio's part in our whole list restucture.

I feel a bit sad for frosty, 14 concussions in 6yrs, a sad way to end a career. Lyons is a great get for nothing, our depth and age profile looks much better.

I think it will change our draft needs, maybe not such a need for mids this year but for speed back and fwd. It brings young cameron into the picture and an early bid may see the eagles let him go. Ive always read tom berry has speed and agility and a bit of shmoozing with fagan at the berry brothers fundraiser may see him end up here playing a halfback/midfield role to start with.

Im really liking how our list is shaping up.

You would think we wouldn't have an issue with our age grap anymore. Grabbed Neale, McCarthy, Adams and Lyons. We did lose Mayes tho

Whilst Lyons is a great pickup with Picks 18, 30, 35 & 56 we're probably not done just yet.

With only 3 senior list spots (and that's assuming McInerney stays on the rookie list for now but gets promoted later beyond the draft and it gets made a permanent move to the senior list in 12 months) we'll be moving Pick 56 onto someone who needs extra draft points.

Zorko will be so much more damaging when freed up from having to do the inside grunt work.

Yeah allows Zorko to play more forward and also allows us some covering with beams departure in terms of a mature body and who can excels at clearances.

Beams seemingly replaced by two players. Lyons for his midfield role & prolific possession gatherer & McCarthy for his goal kicking ability.

Lyons pick up a good one. Always thought he’d be a nice addition when a few of us discussed him earlier on before the trade period.

Weren’t you the clever clogs. I had no thoughts on him until today.
