Still WCE got an absolute bargain there

Yeah fair point, would have thought they could get a bit better than WCE's future third - St Kilda's future third surely would have been enticing as an example. But restrictions on which picks you can trade in the future and list spot limits make it a bit more difficult to work out who the other options might have been.

AFL Draft Hub - Sam Walsh, the likely No.1 pick, just chatting in front of the stage with Jonathan Brown, who was his childhood hero. Walsh's room at home is adorned with Brisbane posters and memorabilia. Brown went over and introduced himself to Walsh and his family.
Bloody shame he won't be presenting him the the Lions guernsey
Maybe in 2 years time.

Ooh, there's an interesting thought.

Sydney trade 26 for future third.
Blakey bid, Sydney pay with later picks.
Sydney trade future third and a pick swap in WC's favour for pick 26.

You'd hope that the AFL would block that sort of trade as draft manipulation but who knows.

They've already taken one AFL sanction are they that keen for another?

Gotta say I'm annoyed we didn't get in front of WCE and offer our future third - almost certainly a way better pick. We would have too many picks for list spots this year then but it would have just meant losing a pick later in the draft.

Does seem like a missed opportunity but we may have some other irons in the fire?

Yeah entirely possible, we also may just want to preserve future picks. But it is crazy value.

The same criticism of us not taking the opportunity can be made of all the other clubs who can trade future picks not doing so I suppose.

No way this five minute format makes it to next year. Give teams a max of five minutes not a required. Could have had the whole draft tonight. It's just stretching everything out unnecessarily. I imagine the average punter that's tuned in is bored out of their mind if they're watching the broadcast and more than half the players drafted will be missed as people are at work tomorrow. Dumb.

Yeah, there are many other ways they can make it an event. 5 minutes between each pick is painful.

Blakey is a gun. Watched him a couple of times here in Sydney. The Swans recruitment team are the best and we sacked Kinear Beetson.

Butters is a good pick for Port. Upgrade on Polec in that role. Wonder if they need Duursma?
