Thomas Berry video is so great. Just the reaction from his brother and Rayner and Witherden shows what a smart selection it was. We are building a great environment and players will want to stay for the journey. If Thomas turns out to be a good player thats a massive bonus. Jarrod Berry is a future captain - I would be doing anything possible to keep this superstar at the club. Well done Noble and Co.

what was the chatter about Curtis Taylor? apologies missed it, its implied hes a flog???

Seems we love to go against consensus right, which is fair I guess we have picked some good players previously

I wonder if Cripps, Fyfe, Neale, Danger, Burton were all "reach picks" at the time, just because one club decided to value him slightly more than other clubs or media reporters. Come round 1, and this is all a non-issue anyway.

Doedee was - at the time it was Doedee who? Crows were ridiculed but turns out they were right.

Waiting for spotthedog1 QA test before I claim it as a great trade.
I'm allowed to have an opinion on my football team, even if I'm not an expert. We don't all have to be sycophants.

Lack of organisation - I scheduled a client meeting for the middle of the draft. Thankfully, it was quicker than last night, and we got through 4 of our picks before I had to go.

If the club wanted him and were concerned about him being off the board, fine. Gave up a future 4th - who cares a lot.

We went a bit early on Ely Smith. Then getting in two picks before McFadyen was either good planning or good luck - I'm going with luck since it's been reported we were trying to move further up. I was bloody stoked when Hawks didn't match Mosquito and our pick was live. Berry - clearly we wanted him, and despite talk that he was sliding down the order in the last month, I'm not sure I believe it. All it takes is one club to understand that he was injured and out of position, and his talent hasn't gone away - Lions locked him in, and I'm sure they were watching closer than any other club - I'm on board. Joyce is a great pickup and one I rate (from my extensive youtube research (that was sarcasm)). And Answerth I don't know anything about, but late in the draft, you've got to take a shot. We haven't really had a late pick come good for a while now, but hopefully Answerth will buck that trend.

And Noble's talk of outside run and pace was either rubbish or we just didn't rate the players around the place. We picked up inside burst, not a lot of outside though. But, that's what they're paid for, and whatever I feel about Noble's ability to maximise value, Conole's picks are usually on point.

Not familiar with Venue Management superhero, whats her special powers?
They're able to organise events better than the AFL.

Thank goodness nobody was dumb enough to complain about drafting too many inside mids before the draft even happened.
Nice one jackess - everyone loves the knob who takes the cheap shot after the fact. I already owned up and publicly retracted my dismissal of the AFL Draft Central phantom.

Still, I maintain, we didn't need that many inside mids. We have a lot of them now. And we don't have a lot of outside mids. But... you can only take the players who were there, and the club clearly preferred the inside players.

Cripps was defs considered a reach pick, as was Dodeee, think Fyfe and Danger were surprise selections.

Ollie Wines at the time was also a surprise, haters gonna hate right, just depends how you develop them really and what character they have

Not having a go, but disagree on early on Ely Smith. Right from the first second when he was walking up to the stage when drafted, and every thing since, screams " do not f@ck with". With his agggression, athletic attributes, and skillset he is going to be a serious footballer who compliments our midfield well. Vossy was his favorite of the old Lions, and I can see him bringing a bit of that to us for a long time.

I would wager now he will be comfortably in the top ten of this draft when history is written.

I think Berry should start down back. Seems to have all the attributes and can learn from Hodgey. Probably might be easier to get a spot in the long run too.

You’re the one that’s still going on about Noble wanting outside peace when that 1. Wasn’t true and 2. Is what we got. Berry is very quick and Answerth and Joyce are both quick. We also have Madden developing.

Also looking at the draft those quicker players mostly went pretty late so most clubs didn’t rate them.

Too true jackass a few on here were going on about small forwards and half backs should be all the go noble did mention half back run but I don't know where the small forward talk come from having said that we bid on cameron brother but maybe for obvious reasons

I can only go off what Noble and Conole said in the media and on the Roar Deal podcast. If what they said there is incorrect, you'll have to take it up with them.

Berry is quick but inside - I'm hopefully he can develop into a decent midfield with both inside and outside ability. Joyce is also more inside.

Answerth is a late pick and Madden is an international rookie. Neither should be even slightly considered when discussing the composition of our list.

Fair enough. I can understand that, but there's a flipside as well. He's a big, mature body, and he's been playing against skinny kids. He's no longer the big kid on the field. He's the whelk on the field surrounded by battle hardened men. Wouldn't be the first to struggle now that his size isn't a point of difference.

Not saying he won't be top 10 in the draft, I'd love him to be. I think if it were that simple though, he wouldn't have gone in the 20s.

You clearly don’t read or listen to anything coming out of the club and always assume the worst so there’s really no point discussing with you.

Whereas you continue to take cheap shots and not bother backing it up. Give it a rest, it's getting old.

I can be negative - yes, it's been a long road as a Lions supporter. And no, I don't just follow along blindly. I'm fine with that. That said, I think if you read my review of the draft in the last page, it was mostly positive. What's the problem? I thought our first pick was going too early, but had only compliments for 3 other picks (the Answerth trade and pick I have no opinion on at all - don't know much about him).

Nobel said he saw Berry J.R.as a forward and would have loved to had grouped him with Cameron J.R. And saw both as a great forward combination hench the bid on Cameron

I get that you feel under attack a bit, but in your last few posts you seem to imply that anyone who disagrees with your logic is blind and/or a sycophant. That’s a pretty broad brush to swing around.

Your arguments tend to be well written and give the impression that they are well reasoned but on closer look they do seem to hinge on a lot of negative assumptions and guesswork that tends to assume that our recruiting team aren’t thinking strategically and aren’t attempting to get deals done in private. You also seem to put a lot of stock in the internet groupthink about where players are likely to be taken.

My observation is that you have a pretty concrete negative impression about the strategic nous of our recruiters and are putting 2 + 2 together to get 5 in your analysis of how they have gone in this draft. A lot of assumptions that can’t be proven or disproven with the information available to any of us.

Also do know where in the draft players like Lloyd, Laird and Stewart were taken?

Just got a question for anyone who may know the answer, maybe #dlanod?
How did the Hawks get away with only drafting 2 players in the draft?
Jacob Koschitzke (52), Mathew Walker (63)
Do rookie elevations not get named in the draft? If they had 1?
