Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think that’s how it works. In that scenario, if Bedford gets a bid at 18, that’s 985 points, which we get a 20% discount on for him being in our academy, which means we need 821 to match it. Pick 23 is worth 815, so we’d use that pick, and it would go to the end of the draft, but we’re still short 6 points, which would then come off our next pick, 28, moving that back to 29. Also, I’m prett sure these picks, and their point value, shuffle back with the bids for other players, so if we see bids for Blakey, Thomas, Scott and Quaynor, the points value we have decreases further
The only way you go into deficit is if you don’t have the points value with your remaining picks, you can’t decide you want to use your later picks that have value, and go into deficit.
In short, if Bedford gets a bid at 18, I’m not sure it gets matched, particularly with 7 list spots, and our 6th pick at 91
After reading this, 3 names stand out to me who may be available at our first two picks: Xavier O’Halloran, Sam Sturt, Curtis Taylor
I like the look of McLean hope we get him.Further to this, and apologies for the wank of quoting my own post, but I had a good read of this Fox Sports power rankings list.
There's talk of Sturt being a bolter, so if he somehow made it to 23 I would be thrilled! Curtis Taylor still sounds an excellent option with this pick, too, as well as Ned McHenry and Jez McLennan. I'm really comfortable that if we take these two picks, we will get two quality players and that cancels out not having a first round pick in this draft.
Also interesting that as per this list, we're apparently into Hayden McLean. Sounds a likely type.
#modernfootyNo McHenry FFS - bloke is not good.
Unless you want a forward who only tackles and misses shots

Geez Bytel looks the value in his mock.Knightmare's latest Phantom Draft is out - IMO, he is the best in the business at predictions come this time of year, and it looks like we're bugger all chance of snaring Sturt. McLennan, O'Halloran & Taylor, all of whom I like, also gone before 23 in his mock, but not beyond possible.
He has us taking Bailey Williams at 23 (McHenry going 24), Fraser Turner at 28 (like the sound of him on a needs basis!), Bedford at 54.
Interestingly, McLean not on his list so a possible rookie chance...
We desperately need a Rioli..Why can we never have both with modern smalls? They either tackle and miss shots, or kick goals but don't tackle
We get Bedford this year, probably agree we should take another pressure small with one of our first 2 picksWe desperately need a Rioli..

I think it’s more to do with the type of player and the fact he seemingly improved by the end of the year. Also we could get him with later picks. Also the fact we have access to him over other clubs probably excites people. But agree that he’s not toon highly rated in general. Can someone please explain to me how Bedford is the next coming of christ yet he is expected to attract a bid somewhere from pick 30 to 50?
Yes he looks a good sort but if he was as highly rated as everyone on here thinks he would be talked about alot more outside this forum.
We need a fast small forward, could Bedford be it? Maybe? But there is no evidence that tells me he is going to be the next Jaidyn Stephenson

Stephenson would have been a candidate for the number 1 pick if hadn't had heart issues. You can't be expecting that.
That's my point though! People on here are talking as if Bedford is that type of player (instant best 22 and solves our immediate need at that position).
In reality he may not even play senior football next year.
