i just cant see adelaide picking 3 vics and a west aussie over the south australian kids taken a pick later on 2 of their picks. but looks good for us if we can end up with those 2 and Bedford for our later pick

We clearly wouldn't be looking for any height would we ...
McHenry - 176cm
Stack - 177cm
Bedford - 176cm

Just looking to make Spargo feel more comfortable ...
To be fair, we need ground level pressure at the moment rather than height.

Spoke to my mate from GWS who is looking at their mock drafts. He says we could be in line to hit one of Stocker, Sturt or McLennan.

I know nothing of draft talent so you’ll have to excuse if I got a name wrong. Apparently any of those would be a great get with our first and if we can get two of those 3, we nail it.
hopefully he's on the money. I was hoping we could possibly get 1 or 2 of McLennan, Sturt or McHenry with our picks in the 20's, as they were players I'd been eyeing off as to what might fit our needs, that could maybe be available at around that mark. hopefully we can use a later pick on Bedford.

Mention Ian Hill at 175cm and everyone shuts you down because he's "too small".

It's an important cm ...

Tho I think there is more a concern about the 340-odd million cm's between Melb and his home, than his 175cm's of height.

True. Sydney Stack is a WA boy as well though!

Bring on some small, mercurial players that can win a 1v1 and are quick, clean and don't mind a tackle

Spargo has been a great find but he's more efficient than brilliant, he runs to the right spots and uses the ball well, a very tidy player but we should target some players that can kick a goal from a half chance and can beat defenders with pace out the back of a zone

Bedford seems the perfect fit and the best thing about these players is they can come in straight away and make an impact

Bedford and another talented small, with a developing forward and a classy HBF type would be ideal

Then draft someone with a funny name with our final pick

Yeah, and a quick google just told me that he and Hill are cousins!

Realisticall, if we could get both of them, and throw them under the wings of Lord Nev, that could very well go a long way to keeping both around long term.

I'd be happy with that for sure! We brought Neal-bullen over to keep Stretch company (they were best mates). That has turned out well!

We haven't had a player like Ian Hill in yonks! Aaron Davey is the last that comes to mind. Will start solely as a small forward and push up to the wing/mid as he puts on some size.

In this video he says he wants to play against his cousins and get one over them so he might not have the go home factor as bad as everyone thinks.

Meanwhile, the perfect response to a question about Freo putting work into a family reunion and bringing another young player home from us would be ... "That's ok, we're putting work of our own into brining a player of theirs home for a family reunion as well"

Important that we go best available in this draft, we've had a good year but we need some more depth through the midfield & forwardline.

I don't love the idea of taking three small/pressure forwards...

Sydney Stack will be more of a project winger than a pressure forward I'd say. That's where he played predominately in the WAFL and championships.

WAFL colts averaged 23 disposals and 8 tackles.

At senior level 14 disposals and 3.6 tackles.

21 disposals in under 18 champs, cant find tackle stats.

Only 2 goals for the season across all levels.

How many do they usually invite? Do they need any more than the guys likely to go in the Top 10 to make a song and dance of it?

Normally around 20 players according to Twomey.

Guess the players that are most likely to be first rounders.

Some may get a later call up like Cockatoo from a few years back.

I like the look of Jenkins and I've heard Thompson is a future gun.

Liked this summary about trading away first-round selections:

Essendon is in a similar scenario to Hawthorn and Melbourne under the new trade conditions.

All three clubs drafted two players in the first round in 2015, but the Hawks and Demons haven't used one since and neither has one this year.

They can do as they wish with their first-round pick in the 2019 NAB AFL Trade Period, including offloading a future one, because they have used at least two in the preceding four-year period.

However, like the Bombers, unless they trade in extra first-round selections this year or next, they will have to start using those picks in 2020 until they satisfy the four-year rolling requirement.

That trio of teams will have used just one first-round pick or fewer through the 2019 draft – assuming they don't acquire any extras – once their two from 2015 drop off.

They will be the last three clubs in that situation, barring AFL permission, now that the four-year rule is in place, which demands at least two first-round picks are used in that period.

An end-of-first-round compensation selection does not count in a club's rolling four-year tally.

Interesting to hear that with 3 weeks to go Ian Hill hasn’t been invited to attend the draft yet.

May be someone who is still available early 2nd round.
Are the same people responsible for the Brownlow invites? Because Angus Brayshaw wasnt invited to that haha

Players don't actually have to be short to produce ground level pressure

The generalisation though, is that when you are shorter you have a lower centre of gravity which makes you more nimble.

If you have a couple that are quick, happy to tackle, with a lower centre of gravity, you will probably apply greater levels of defensive pressure inside your forward 50.
