The generalisation though, is that when you are shorter you have a lower centre of gravity which makes you more nimble.

If you have a couple that are quick, happy to tackle, with a lower centre of gravity, you will probably apply greater levels of defensive pressure inside your forward 50.

Other things that lower your centre of gravity:
  • A small head
  • No arms
  • Possessing large, veiny, low-hanging anaconda-like feet
I would hope the recruiters are looking out for the holy trinity of forward pressure KAs.

Liked this summary about trading away first-round selections:

Essendon is in a similar scenario to Hawthorn and Melbourne under the new trade conditions.

All three clubs drafted two players in the first round in 2015, but the Hawks and Demons haven't used one since and neither has one this year.

They can do as they wish with their first-round pick in the 2019 NAB AFL Trade Period, including offloading a future one, because they have used at least two in the preceding four-year period.

However, like the Bombers, unless they trade in extra first-round selections this year or next, they will have to start using those picks in 2020 until they satisfy the four-year rolling requirement.

That trio of teams will have used just one first-round pick or fewer through the 2019 draft – assuming they don't acquire any extras – once their two from 2015 drop off.

They will be the last three clubs in that situation, barring AFL permission, now that the four-year rule is in place, which demands at least two first-round picks are used in that period.

An end-of-first-round compensation selection does not count in a club's rolling four-year tally.
Clubs will just apply for permission and the AFL will grant it. I doubt we'll ever see a situation where a club is having to trade into the first round when they don't actually want to just to satisfy this silly rule.

We are going to want to pick up some more players born in that 1998-2000 period though, only Spargo really has shown anything. Hopefully we pick up a star or two in the second round this year.

They should pick me for the feet alone

I'd be happy with that for sure! We brought Neal-bullen over to keep Stretch company (they were best mates). That has turned out well!

We haven't had a player like Ian Hill in yonks! Aaron Davey is the last that comes to mind. Will start solely as a small forward and push up to the wing/mid as he puts on some size.

In this video he says he wants to play against his cousins and get one over them so he might not have the go home factor as bad as everyone thinks.

Man...Flash would be AA if he was in this team. Now I’m upset thinking about how good he’d be.

He comment against regarding cousins seems to suggest he just wants to go the Eagles tbh.

Totally agree. Can’t see them making a club trade into a first round. However possibly could see them blocking a trade of a club using a first rounder.

Toby Bedford was bid on and matched at pick 36 in Bigfooty Phantom. This is a pretty good scenario for us being 5 or so picks after our second pick fell after previous bidding.

Shows he is rated reasonably highly but not to high, especially as we get a discount from pick 36 which I’m unsure what that will end up being.

I’d say Noah Gown would be a good one if we could land him with a pick in the 20s.

I've heard he's a big girl's blouse.

Players don't actually have to be short to produce ground level pressure

It helps though. Hannan for example can have great ground level pressure when he feels like it, but his first instinct is always to fly for a high ball rather than wait for it to land.

Agree, no point going 'all in' and then falling in a hole in 6 years.

Height and playing a role in the team are two completely different issues.

For 6”2 guys, I actually think guys like Hanan and Petracca have pretty low centres of gravity.

Not sure Petracca will be winning many agility tests though so maybe I’m disproving my own theory..

I think Trac would smash agility tests, people think he is quick (He isn’t) but he looks it sometimes because he can turn on a dime.

I thought there would be more movement in delisted free agency, only 3 players signed on November 1st and nothing since then. Looks like we are going to load up at the draft.

There is plenty of time, with 3 different windows to sign them, but I'm surprised we haven't even been mentioned to be interested in anyone.

I can't see us filling our list through the draft, we've got 6 spots open, and at this point, our 5th pick is at 91 ... we've gotta have something in planned surely.

IIRC he tested extremely well for agility at his combine.

I think we are a monty to trade into the mid-30s with Bedford there on draft night. It makes absolutely no sense for us to trade before the night as it hurts our positioning on Bedford.

So on the Richmond board phantom I was Melbourne only my second attempt ever so if I drafted a bunch of spuds apologies :p

27 Ned McHenry thought he was the perfect pick for you guys after hill was gone tackles pretty classy will start in the forward line and can move to the midfield

30 matched bid on Toby Bedford maybe slightly early but I doubt you let him pass

At this stage my lack of draft knowledge probably shows

53 Stefan Radovanovic got sucked into the height and prototype of the new age footballer can play more then one position 192cm kicking needs work

57 jack ross thought he was best available

59 Hugo Munn with hogan going thought getting a project tall was ideal and went this bloke over o’reilly

Can someone confirm something for me?

For Bedford, we only have to match the points value of the highest offer, minus a 20% discount yeah?
Pretty sure we can also take a points debt over to next year.
