Please don’t compare casboult to buddy.. that’s not even funny!
Purely compared their goal kicking conversion rate.

Obviously not comparable as players in any sense really.

Forward line

Ainsworth Wright Sexton
Martin Lukosius Rankine

Look good pretty good .
With Brodie, Swallow, Touk, Lyons, Fiorini and Weller sharing the midfield duties

Throw in Scrim and Ballard as smokies as tall mid options and it starts to get exciting

A few mature age in the lower end
Like Zorko clone and McAdams not too bad .

By the time Lukosius is hitting his straps(presuming he does) Martin and Sexton will be over 30
#justsayin'
Sexton is quite young only 25 in December. Martin only 23 . Compare to May , Thompson , Swallow,Lyons they are still kids .

Rankine is probably the most talented player in this years draft and potentially will end up the best player, but the more I read and hear about him the more risk factor there seems to be with recruiting him. He is clearly the biggest flight risk in this years top end and has gone on the record in every interview I’ve seen on him saying he hopes to stay and play in SA but will go wherever he is drafted. This comment he keeps saying is such a red flag, I haven’t seen any other top kid saying he prefers to stay in his home state as much since Chad Wingard.

To risk or not to risk is the question , he could end up in Vic team and Stayed there for a long time , eg Bulldog . A lot of the article is from Adelaide and I am not saying he had no risk but is it worth it .

Bailey Smith ( hawthorn )
King Brother ( Vic team)
Walsh ( rumour Carlton pick 1)
Hill( want to play with cousin )
Thomas ( North academy )
Lukosius ( adelaide fan )

I’m not basing my assessment on that one article, I’ve read numerous articles and heard a radio type interview with him awhile ago and in each he has made a reference to preferring to stay in SA as it’s his home etc. just worried he could be the wrong kid to pick especially with our retention history and knowing we are in for a few more years of potential pain before we come good.

I get you but if you look at the top 7 they all prefer their home state , that is the reason I said look at mature age players in the lower end , stop been obssed with GC academy players who I think are good but need time and games to build their skill and body . If they are good in 3 or four years time can always trade back ,presume they are better than what GC have on their list .

Top draft hope Izak Rankine reveals why he'd love to play alongside Eddie Betts at the Crows
Andrew Capel, adelaidenow
August 8, 2018 9:37pm

POTENTIAL No. 1 draft pick Izak Rankine has revealed star Crow Eddie Betts has become his unlikely mentor.

As Adelaide — currently armed with three of the first 19 picks in this year’s AFL national draft — considers packaging selections to make an audacious bid to move up the order to secure Rankine or fellow South Australian star Jack Lukosius, the West Adelaide speedster said Betts is playing a key role in his development.

And — on a day it was confirmed clubs will be able to trade picks throughout the national draft for the first time — Rankine said he would love to saddle up alongside Betts in the Adelaide forward line next year.

“I’d love to play for the Crows, they are the team I grew up barracking for,’’ Rankine, 18, said.

“And to play with Eddie would be extra special because he’s one of the players I model my game on, along with (former Hawk) Cyril Rioli, and has been helping me throughout the year.’’

Adelaide has been given more draft ammunition with confirmation clubs can make late plays to move up the draft order if a player they desperately want is still available.

This year’s draft, likely to be held at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium, will for the first time be staged over two days on November 22 and 23.

Rankine, who topped Champion Data’s player ratings at the past two AFL under-18 championships and is its highest-rated draft prospect, met Betts when he trained with the Crows for a week in December as part of the AFL Academy program.

He told The Advertiser the pair had an instant connection and that 558-goal small forward Betts had “looked after me’’ ever since.

“Eddie invited me over to dinner and we’ve kicked on from there,’’ Rankine said.

“We’ve stayed in contact and message each other about different things.

“It’s just cruising, having good chats and giving me advice and stuff.

“We’ve come from the same (indigenous) background, so we have that connection and look after each other.

“He gives me advice to make sure I stay on track and continue doing the right things to chase my dream of playing in the AFL.’

Rankine, who has played 21 SANFL league games for the Bloods, is considered the ideal long-term replacement for Betts, who turns 32 in November and has shown signs of slowing down this season.

Dual Crows premiership coach Malcolm Blight has suggested Rankine would be a perfect fit for Adelaide.

“I’d rather stay in SA and play my football here but wherever I go I’ll go and I’ll just play my role,” Rankine said.

“It’s always been my dream to play AFL, so I’m happy to do that anywhere.’’

Rankine and Lukosius could end up at struggling Gold Coast, which is likely to have picks two and three after losing key forward Tom Lynch to free agency.

Triple premiership coach Mick Malthouse claims he’d heard that some top draft prospects had had conversations with their player managers about avoiding being drafted by the Suns, which promoted their chief executive Mark Evans to threaten legal action.

But Rankine and Lukosius say they are happy to go to whatever club drafts them.

“Like Izak, I’m a Crows supporter who would love to stay in Adelaide alongside family and friends but I’ll just be grateful to be drafted and be more than happy to go to any club,’’ Lukosius said.

Lucky for us Eddie will be finished by the time Rankine's initail 2 year contract is up

I disagree about the top 7 all preferring there home state, Rankine is the only one who has been public about his desire to stay in SA. Some of the others have even gone as far as saying they are happy to move interstate and would look forward to the challenge of a move such as Walsh and Smith.

Look at Sam Day , Ballard they are all SA players and compare them with Vic players who request to go home ,Polec was the only SA player I can think of ? How many years Betts and Gibbs plays for Carlton . I am happy with Lukosius/BaileySmith or Walsh /Bailey Smith combination but disagree with single out Rankine as one of the bad apple from the Top 7 .

Pick 3 could be the playing Card GC hold in this year draft , don't need to reveal them (Rankine , Bailey Smith , bid on Blakey , Walsh , Lukosius ) what GC will do with pick 2,3 until other club coming in with offer.

Is it extortion to tell Sydney we will bid on Blakey unless they give us Nic Newman for nothing?

A few people on here must be really hoping that we either lose to the Lions, or the Saints win a game (Bombers, Hawks, Kangas), or the Lions win against either the Pies or Eagles.

Personally, I would take the win against the Lions and let the cards fall as they may. If we end up with Pick 4? Fine by me. One of Walsh, Luk, Rank, or Smith will be there. Or a King. The whole idea of this draft is the top end is strong and the top end is a lot deeper than 3.

This is not basketball, where tanking to the top of the draft is worth it since 1 player can change everything. We need 5 A graders not 1.

But getting a win at the end of the season for some of these young players is really valuable, especially against the Lions who everyone seems to think has gone past us. Plus it would be super enjoyable for the Suns to match instead of taking pick 5 for Lynch. Imagine the meltdowns (and Boddsy).

I would also be rapt if we beat the Lions and the Lions then turn around and beat the Eagles and drop them out of a home final and we go back to pick 2. Try to win, worry about the rest later.

I don't think anybody suggested GC to Tank , but on current form is hard to find a winning formula ,espcially with injuries and players coming in and out of the team compare to Brisbane .
