Another good thing I realised is we are starting to build that nucleus of QLD lads. Currently we have 12 on the list, hopefully with a chance to add another 2 or 3 this season. I remember Cameron saying he would ideally want 50% QLD boys playing together. Probably a fair way from that, but it is looking more positive than ever to get a local team out on the park.

On a personal note I would be rapt if we were able to pick up this kid Zak Butters with either our Eagles or end of 1st round priority pick. Reminds me of a young Zach Merrett. Played with a wonky shoulder all year, was booked in for surgery after the Championships and did the shoulder in the last game. Could play as a classy small forward and transition to the midfield in time.

If we get him the other pick that would be great to get would be Xavier O'Hallaran - Butters Western Jets teammate and Vic Metro captain (like Touk). Big bodied, inside mid, good kick, can play a little up forward as marking target and great leader from all reports

Don't mind him for late first round if GCS not picking Lukosius , Ben King early .
More agile type of Forward /ruck men.

Like him - the Stingrays have 2 good rucks so they have been trying to showcase him as a forward - he dominated the ruck at the Championships in 2017 already. He's not much of a forward and lacks a physical presence from what I've seen but has a NicNat type leap and could be a great tap ruckman (was a Vic Junior high jump champion) - although a little undersized at 198cm - although he would take time to develop physically.

Probably the opposite type ruck to Crossley - in time they would complement each other nicely

Agree , Crossley more Brutal type , William more agility .
Look like a lot of Bailey if GC pick them all up .
Bailey Smith
Bailey William
Bailey Scott

Im thinking you guys are really going to have an awesome draft this year with the talent available at your picks and im hoping the mock draft we usually do on our board i will be looking to have Gold Coast as the team i select for.

Just a question would you guys be looking to trade out any picks (#25 + #30) for higher picks or need them for points

I think there may be a little confusion about Lukosius for people that haven't watched him play but hear that he is a key position player.

The below package from the Allies game this year displays what he can do if he has got free reign to run all over the ground from goal square to goal square. A player like this you can fit almost anywhere into any team in multiple positions.

Gets around the ground very good but gee he would blend right into our team with that terrible kicking accuracy

Full of Bailey's and Jack's (especially if we get Lukosius as well)

A well stocked bar
Just for joke not serious , Butters and Butts is not too bad combo for commentator like BT .

Hopefully trade 1 of them for future pick , need them for GC academy Budarick and Aston Crossley next year .

I would imagine we will try to consolidate as many picks inside top20 as possible. Bailey Scott looks increasingly likely to select suns as preferred destination and would only cost a 30's pick at the most and our other academy kids Graham and Koenan we will be hoping to fill with our final 2 picks or rookie selections.

Reports are we want 5 picks in the top 30
If we get Lynch FA compo + end of 1st rd compo that's 4 in the top 20

Leaves us with an extra 4 picks from 25-45 + whatever we get for Aaron Hall

Need 1 of them for Bailey Scott
Probably need another pick around 60+ for either Graham/Koenen

Don't need all 4 of those later picks, especially the 2 early 3rd rd picks - either trade up or trade for future picks

Would consider trading a 25 and a 40 to get another late 1st/real early 2nd

EDIT: Unlike last year I hope we don't just give picks away for the sake of having too many

There seems to be a very good chance that we'll at least get a further three QLDers in Scott, Graham and Koenen this off season. I still hold out hope we will rookie draft another Queenslander in Fitzroy Greenwool (indigenous small forward) but I understand it may actually be better for his development to keep him in academy for another year and look towards potentially drafting him as a 19 year old in 2019. We also have a good amount of juniors making All Australian teams at the U14/U15/U16 level so that should hold us in good stead going forward and having our own TAC Cup team from 2019 will also help.

I suppose the really encouraging thing is that the Queenslanders on our list are significantly contributing to our best 22 side week to week, as opposed to GWS who keep almost all their NSW players in the NEAFL. Harbrow, Sexton, Weller, Thompson and Bowes have all been significant contributors this season. I also thought Crossley, Heron and Scheer showed good signs last night so I'm happy to have them continue their development on our list. If we keep this up, it won't be long before 50% of our best 22 are Queenslanders and I really do think that's a good thing for culture/retention.

With the plan of having more Local produce. Gore , Budarick , Aston Crossley and Corey Joyce playing Tac cup next year , I can see GC trade some of this year pick for next year pick.

I’m with you OB11, it’s looking more and more likely that we gave away 4 picks for what will be a 2 position upgrade at the end of the first round. o_O:drunk::'(
This is just stupidity but when you add to the story that the reason we did so was to get a pick to trade for Weller without even asking the other club if they would accept it then it moves into the uncharted levels of stupidity.

I hope this club never again rolls the dice with trading picks as every time it has been a **** up.
