So, for the fun part, what will the final Draft Pick to Trade/Free Agent ratio be?

If we bring in Horlin-Smith, Miles and Ellis as reported, that will leave only one spot on the Senior list, meaning trades and delistings for some or all of the following.
Aaron Hall
Tom Nicholls
Kade Kolodjashnij
Jack Leslie
Jesse Lonergan
Harrison Wigg

Stuart Dew's prediction of 8 to 10 players traded/delisted/drafted did not include Rischa and it may not have included Lynch or Rosa. Therefore, none of the names on this list are safe, although potentially only 4 will be moved on, meaning 5 Draftees and 3 trades, with heaps of room on the Rookie List for the Mature Aged players and Academy grads.

You are overlooking MacPherson and Holman being upgraded from the Rookie List. Otherwise, you have it about right. Hall to North, KK to Demons would open up 4 Senior List spots, with the mail in that GHS, Miles and Ellis are done deals (regardless of what they cost, the return on trades for Hally and Kade will be roughly the same as what needs to be spent on acquiring the 3 new guys).

However, the purge is nowhere near completed because if these changes take place there will 1 vacant Senior spot and 6 vacant Rookie spots (could be 3 Cat A and 3 Cat B, 4 Cat A and 2 Cat B, or 5 Cat A and 1 Cat B depending on how Dawson and Heron are allocated).

So, with only 1 Senior list spot available after the above 9 Outs and 4 Ins above (plus extra 2 Rookie spots) who else goes from the Senior list to make way for Draft picks?

Players out of contract in 2018:
Aaron Hall - gone
Aaron Young - to be re-signed
Harrison Wigg* - list clogger, contributed little
Jack Leslie* - in danger of being cut
Jacob Dawson - Academy rookie
Jacob Heron - Academy rookie
Jarrod Witts - to be re-signed
Jarryd Lyons - to be re-signed

Jesse Lonergan* - 3 injury disrupted seasons
Kade Kolodjashnij - probably gone

*candidates for re-rookie listing

Possible Trade Bait
- Tom Nicholls is under contract, however, there just aren't many rucks in the the Draft or AFL for every club to be happy
- Steven May's name has come up a lot - firm wait and see
- Jack Martin trade rumours have been quashed.

Bailey Scott's decision may force all three players above to be delisted, or give one a reprieve. I would like to see some or all of these guys re-rookied. Wigg hasn't even played an AFL in 4 seasons, but is highly regarded. Lonergan and Leslie are not Top 22 players, although they are quality backups and a 1 year prove it deal on the Rookie list would be excellent insurance given their particular positions would be difficult to cover should a few injuries hit.

Yet to see anything to say that Holman has been upgraded to the Senior list - just that he has signed on for another year.

The suns will be able to have a total of 49 players on their books this year.
40 senior list spots
6 cat A rookies (including the extra concessions)
3 cat B rookies (academy players)

With RISCHATELLI delisted (to rookie)
Lynch out the door
We already have 4 senior list spots
5 cat A rischa
1 cat B dawson and heron

If the 3 players are traded for then we will only have 1 Senior spot free. That is why more trades and delistings need to happen. Ideally the Suns can trade their 3rd and 4th picks into the first round to have 4 excellent picks and few late picks to match bids on Academy guys.

Agreed - to me Holman has signed for a second rookie year (maybe was only signed on 1 year contract initially).
McPherson though - had to be upgraded or delisted - given the time spent on the rookie list.
Wigg may have been signed similar to Holman (though he did come from an AFL list - so same as Young ??)
Have no knowledge really - and don't think we should know full detail of individual contracts.

Wigg was traded from Crows senior list - he should fire his manager if he couldn't get a 2 year deal from the club after they traded for him.

I'm not sure how it works but if Rookie contracts expire on 31 Oct, and guys like Rischa have to wait for the Rookie draft, how can Holman renew his rookie contract so early? Wouldn't it be a Senior spot then?

If it’s Grigg/Pickett, Collins and Corbett we get I really hope we keep all 3 all would be considerable upgrades on a hell of a lot of our current list imo and more value to us than the pick 20-40 we would get for them if traded

You wouldn’t get pick 20-40 regardless. Definitely better off keeping them

Rookie players can extend their contract early because they get the same paid , as for Rischa because he is on senior list , redrafted in rookie list will cost GC less ,I hope I answered your questions .

MacPherson need to be upgraded because this year will be his third year ( maximum 3 year rookie A limit ) on the rookie list .

Yep, makes sense ... this was Sunsbhoy's area of expertise. Guess I shoulda paid more attention

I'd say he'd have been desperate to get an AFL Contract of any description after 3 years of failing to crack the starting 22 at Adelaide. He reportedly showed up at the Suns overweight and quickly injured himself during preseason. When he returned to the NEAFL in Round 1 (which was Round 3 AFL) he played 3 games averaging 20 touches a game and then got injured, season done. But apparently he's a nice bloke. Good mates with Lynchy too. Toodle-loo, Wiggy.

Take it easy just a discussion forum , I might be wrong also because my memory is not as good as before.

Yeah i think in 1 of our pre podcast discussions.

Every thing i can find on holman resigning qoutes it as a contract extension so i would assume he is still rookie listed.

This gives us 5 senior list spots and 4 cat A spots.

Prior to trade period.

Rookies can be appointed for a maximum 2 years. So - if Holman was only given a one year contract it probably had an option for extension for the second rookie year.
Risca can only become a rookie if he is not on a senior list. So he first needs to be delisted - before going thru the rookie drafting process to become a rookie.
Hope this helps...only my reading on it.

Would like to pick up Grigg, Pickett and Corbett. Grigg has a sublime boot...

Wow seriously impressive highlights reel.
Even playing him as a forward you would think he could do some damage.

The only thing that gives me pause is that unlike some of the other guys who have just stamped their mark this year and have been up and comers he has been good for a number of years and been repeatedly passed over. Betting against all 17 other teams doesn’t work.

Off topic, I know, but far out have a look at that crowd. There's 40,000 watching that GF — still a lot of support for the state league down there.

Great crowd, great skills and by Grigg and overall a very good standard of play. Need more like him and them...
