You are not a realist mate , May is not worth a #5 in a trade
Just because you might get a good compo does not mean thats his value this year he will be 27 years old only played 120 games injured and suspensions. You would be furious if your team payed a top 5 pick
Who said May is worth pick 5 , just than Melbourne need to take pick 18,26,29 to the draft instead of pick 10 , they can also swap their second Rd and third rd pick out 33,43 for better pick . If you look carefully will you rather have pick 10 and May ,pick 33 ,43 or 18 could be Higgins type , May , pick 26 and 29 , pick 43 .
GC in pick 5, pick 33
GC out : May , pick 18,26,29

Melbourne in : May , pick 18,26,29
Melbourne out : Hogan ,pick 33.

GC end up : pick pick 2, pick 3 , pick 5 , pick 33 ,38,41.
If Bailey Scott nominated GC .
Pick 33,38,41 will be enough point to cover him .

Hearing some great rumours at a GF party from people that know people in the industry.

Martin to essendon
May to Sydney

Gold coast cleaning house of seniors not committed and aiming to bring in 4 top 10 picks.

Port supposed to play a big part in this.
It is just rumors but seems like this trade period could throw up anything.
Hope you’re right. Not interested in another year of media spotlight if players aren’t committed.
Even if the picks aren’t top 10 back ourselves to develop whoever we draft.

And Clayton’s parting gift to us is complete. Pick #18 from the Eagles.

Still happy the Eagles won though. Get stuffed Collingwood :D

That will be pick 19 thankyou
Disappointing because 17er assured us midseason they'd lose the last 9 and drop to 12th:(

Hurting that multiple 2nd round involve pick 26 Liam Ryan . :(

Sure under normal circumstances I would agree that May is not worth pick 5. But he is under contract, captain, and Suns will get next year top 5 pick (with AFL help) and the youngest team in competition will definitely benefit from 1 more year of the top defender. Who knows Suns may avoid injuries and show enough improvement in 2019 that May decides to stay.

Suns will have more than enough talent drafted this year. In my opinion a couple of top 5 picks next next year to spread the load is a better decision. I watched U17 game and there is some great talent coming through next year.

It's just the market value. Nobody forces Melbourne or any other team to fork out pick 5-6. It's like Hogan with his navicular crack is not worth picks 5 + 6 but I bet in the end Freo will be desperate enough to offer them if Neale deal happens.

Was Weller + pick 41 worth pick 2? Absolutely not. Were fans furious? Yes. I know I was. Still the club went with it. Today I am actually very happy with Weller + Ballard vs Brayshaw. Again I bet Melbourne will offer pick 5-6.

By the way, May would had been handy for Magpies in Grand Final.

I’m sick of people blaming Clayton for this. Virtually no expert tipped West Coast to even make the 8 this season. Robert Walls even tipped them to be wooden spooners. It was just dumb luck.

I think pick 5 or 6 , pick 5 and 6 will be too much for Hogan .

Why ? You still gave up pick 2 for Weller ,
Can multiple second rr be trade to different club for future pick ( Yes ) or swap them for better first round pick ( eg Sydney and Port in 2016) , ( yes )

Let's see. I think I will actually enjoy this trade season. I would expect Freo also gets 2nd or 3rd round pick with Hogan.
Exactly club will be very creative this year .As much I blame Clayton in last year draft , having 2 pick in each round gave GC some advantages .

It always amazes me that people blame Clayton for the last year trades. You really think it was his decision? How about Evans/Dew ticked off the trades. It was Evans who promised to Weller that no matter what he will be the Sun. Then smart Weller and his manager went public with it.

Still if Fremantle want pick 2 , why spend time on trading multiple pick for future first round in the last day of trade period , gave up pick 2 and discuss with other club who want 2017 second Rd pick for future pick .

Clayton was roundly criticised at the time for that trade despite most thinking we'd get a pick in the top 10. It was a dumb trade
Nothing wrong with the Weller trade either

I can imagine that after Freo refused our multiple 2nd round picks the idea was to get and offer Eagles 1st round pick.
Let said you tell me if I want May you demand this year pick 5 or nothing , but I go around and Return with St Kilda Future first Rd pick , woukd you accept it, of course not right . Sometime is not about true value but abour did I listen to your Instructions if I want something from you ( be it May or Weller )

To me once Freo knew it was over. Who knows maybe they did not believe that Freo will be so ruthless or go beyond any normal overs. Ask Evans/Dew :) One day there will be payback time.

If I am Clayton , Dew and Evans told me no matter what get Weller , early in the morning Pick 2 for Weller deal done . Next get Ablett deal done ,Afternoon see who want to swap or exchange second Rd with Future Second Rd or upgrade to better pick . But then Eagles won't offer me Job , if GC show me the exit door after trade period. Clayton is not Stupid but he need to take care of himself if his employer want to get rid of him .

That’s nonsense. Clayton would have been offered a job, based on his body of work over decades in recruiting and list management. It would have had nothing to do with that particular trade.

Of all 16 team , why Eagles and the dodgy trade .

Well something is really wrong with the club if the process owner for list management decisions (Clayton) is being overruled by persons who don't have responsibility for that process. Yes, cross-functional teams can work together on projects for input purposes, but if the end choices are being made by those who are not the experts employed for that task, no wonder we've continually ****ed up recruiting and list management decisions. Basics systems management. top management should be high level, driving culture and Strategic decisions, but leave the process decisions like recruiting / trades to those like Clayton.

The optics are not good though

Hang on
Clayton aka as "The guy who makes his living out of identifying talent and potential "couldn't identify that West Coast had the ability to win the Grand Final this year?
Am I missing something?
Does he get a free asterix or something with his opinions?

Ok no more Clayton blaming
Eagles Pick 50+2018 1st for Gold Coast Picks21,26,37+2018 2nd ( pick20)

How to turn pick 18 into something good .

You guys may very well get one of our top 10 picks for Hogan but there will quite possibly be West Coasts 1st rounder or other early second round pick coming back to Melbourne too
