If Scott is available at our WCE Pick (#18) and we choose to take him, then his nominated Club (Nth/Geel) have the right to use their points for him.
If they fail to do so, then he becomes a Suns player with that pick #18.
This also applies if he nominates The Suns and someone else chooses him before us...we then have the option to use points to have him come to us.

Really wondering what strategy our list management team are working to. Fascinating stuff. Clearly we have holes everywhere but I think it's widely acknowledged our midfield needs the most help, and A grade talent at that. Yes we are likely to pick up Richmond pair Miles and Ellis, and Geelong's GHS, but these guys are really just solid depth / role players at best. The draft is our best hope for potential A graders.

With our predraft access to state league players, we've so far nabbed a 190cm third tall forward (Corbett) and a 193cm swing man (Burgess), with rumours we are chasing 181cm small forward Shane McAdam as our third selection or 183cm Marlion Pickett from South Fremantle (my preference). Jack Lukosius (194cm) is most likely coming to us at pick 2, and we have our top local Academy prospects also talls in Caleb Graham (194cm) and Dirk Koenen (195cm) as late draft or rookie prospects.

Obviously many of our picks as they currently stand will change between now and the draft, but given who we're already looking to bring on board, would it be fair to assume that we'll be gunning for maybe up to four midfielders between #3 and #30? Who does everyone think we should target?

Anyone got any ideas what’s going on with Tom Nicholls? Heard a lot from Cameron during the week about wanting KK and Hall to explore their options but no mention of a bloke that has played as many games of AFL for the suns as I have in the last two years...

Not a comment on him as a person just as a player on the list.

If we do not pre-select Pickett I hope we draft him. He looks great with mature body. The key is to limit injuries. Next year I expect Brodie and Fiorini full time in midfield, Bowes 50%, Ainsworth 50%. In my opinion all A grade talent. Pickett, Miles, Ellis, GHS, Townsend all mature bodies to help and provide depth if and when injures strike. Swallow, Miller, Lyons mature core in midfield not bad at all. Plenty of other players to run through midfield (Weller, Hanley, Martin, ...)

If May leaves I would draft Lukosius and then Rozee, Rankine/Smith - all 3 will play eventually in midfield but it will take at least 1-2 years to see them there. Bailey Scott is another inside/outside midfielder if he chooses us (I would be happy to use Eagles pick on him). That would be enough for me regarding midfield.

1) Luke Valante - Balance Mid -185cm 80kg
2) Chayce Jones -Balnce Mid -180cm 74 kg
3) Xavier Dursma - Balance Mid : 185cm - 71kg
4) O’Halloran’s - inside mid : 187cm -83 kg .

Other
RCD, Liam Stocker , McFadyen .

I prefer Mid that are balance so that when injuries happen to senior they can slot in playing inside or outside . As for outside mid I hoped they can target players that can be flexible to switch between wing /HB /HF . A bit like Weller /Bowes/ Ballard type .

Bailey Smith , Rozee could be handy .

If we are drafting Lukosius.
Do you draft one of his mates in Rankine or Rozee just so Lukosius stays for the long haul.

Even if everything and everyone points to drafting Smith for example..

For Lukosius sake draft his mate?

I'm going the SA trifecta - Lukosious, Rankine, Rozee. Just need the picks to get it done....?

Rozee please , Rankine somehow still give me bad vibe but he is definitely once in a generation like McLeod , Bennell , akermanis .

I reckon we still pick up Pickett in the national draft and McAdam as our 3rd pre selection.
Not sure about Pickett … been checking his stats - played WAFL league since 2014
2014 Free kicks for 7 Against 8
2015
Free kicks for 9 Against 27
2016
Free kicks for 12 Against 35
2017
Free kicks for 12 Against 32
2018
Free kicks for 20 Against 50

You guys can work it out yourselves - but Condom Head and his mates will be all over this...!!

60 For 152 Against - mind boggling …!

Where do we get the midfielders we getting smashed in the media about from?

Trust Miles and GHS the second hand recruits and possibly pickett to turn our F grade midfield into a A grade?

Think we need to take Bailey Smith at 3 give us that midfield cream and leadership

And maybe pick up 1 of SA mids Valante or sparrow with a pick in the 20s to become Lukosius’s best bud for the next 10-15 yrs

Dont need to take SA kids with top 5 picks

I don't pretend to know - they are who I'd go for.
With Miles -and current midfielders I think we are fine - but we get trashed in big body positions - particularly forward.
These draftees are not for now they are for 3 years time. The Miles, Corbett's, Burgess's are for now.
Think likes of Fiorini, Brodie , Bowes, Scheer, with games and experience can help turn your F Grade midfield into at least B grade.
Yes get a midfield draftee - but as Brodie has shown - they will not solve todays problem now.

Somewhat agree - yes we need midfielders but we need forwards too.

Most importantly we need a strategy to retain the high end talent we draft in. 2 considerations are:

1. Get players that can play multiple positions to give other players opportunities

2. Get good kids that know each other to help with the transition process to retain them

Do the young kids like Bowes and Scheer buy into this? They know it’s a long road ahead but success at end of the tunnel?

To me, I think it is sensible to draft that group of young stars from SA. Even if they may not all be the best players at their pick, they are all in the equation as amongst the best. I think they're more likely to stay & flourish at the Suns, if they have their mates with them.

I wholeheartedly agree with the rest of what you've said. I'd be hoping those young blokes could take over the midfield & let Swallow play more as a half-back & Lyons more half-forward, helping out in the centre, but not shouldering the heaviest loads. I'd like to see another pacy midfielder added to the group as most of those mentioned lack a bit of leg speed.

IMO take the players that suite your team structure and Culture . Not the blood culture but the sunny Dew culture.

Interestingly, it appears that Rozee has been a midfielder for all of his career up until the last couple of years when he has been switched to HB/HF for state and SANFL duties.
I’d be equally happy if we goes Lukosius and Rozee or Lukosius/Smith at 2/3, with both Rozee and Smith having good pace. If May ends up leaving and we get another pick at 5 or 6, I’d be ecstatic if we could pick up all three.

I've long said you should be loading up on the SA talent this year. It's a deep group, even late or as rookies there'll be decent players available. Get them all over there together and hope that works. And trade Steven May out for #5. Upgrade that to the Saints pick at #4 if you have to, just to make sure neither Adelaide or Port can get that pick first.

#2 - Jack Lukosius
#3 - Connor Rozee
#4 - Izak Rankine
#19 - Jez McLennan

McLennan is the one who'd replace KK and Scrimshaw. Good intercept mark and has league experience in the SANFL. Carlton are going to want them as well (to trade to Adelaide for McGovern) but beat them to the punch and get Shane McAdam and Chris Burgess in too. Become the third SA side.
As an avid SA draft watcher what are your thoughts on Rankine rumoured flight risk?
