Seems like dew is the one with the problems here. I had all the faith in the world with him but this is just stupid. Our midfield is absolutely pitiful as it is now we have delisted our strongest ball winner?
Now watch us draft a Ben or Max King in the draft to really do my head in. FMD the decision makers at the Suns have some explaining to do. Not only is he our best contested mid, he is one of our few mids who can find the ball and use it relatively well. It’s not like he was an Aaron Hall downhill skier. Add Leslie and I am truly perplexed. Guess we are conceding another bottom two finish because our thin layer of depth just got thinner. Wonder what gem we have in mind at pick 80. James Hird was #79 from memory.

I get the anger, but what does keeping him for another year achieve?

I’m not trying to be overly optimistic, but I think we’ve resigned to a full rebuild with players that want to be here under dew. May as well get all the pain out of the way now, heal, and come back stronger in a few years rather than limp along like we have been, leaking 1-2 quality players every year.

I guess you have to ask if he's a premiership mid
Lyons' big problem is he extracts the pill but we all know that has not helped us win games
We need players to extract and hurt the opposition
I like JL but he doesn't do both unfortunately
Dew et al are obviously looking to build a finals team
There's a reason Brad Scheer was retained over Lyons
As longtime suffering supporters we just see a bit more wood cut away
The Club sees deadwood- we see a supporting truss

Bang on the money. He’s currently a supporting truss of a house that’s falling down.

It’s hard to watch as a fan, but bring the bulldozer in and build it again based on a solid foundation.

A premiership mid?????

Dew needs to get us to stop 100 point bashings first

F**k this rabble of a club. Our best contested mid. I'll still support, I'll still pay membership but the whole time ill be asking myself 'why'

17er can you please try spin this into a positive, because I can't
Corey Lyons, 20yo player on the Brisbane Lions list, is Jarryd's brother. That's where he'll go and they'll be the new version of the Beams Brothers. No doubt the Lions have been into him if they rate Corey that highly, but they weren't trading for a guy who has a large injury concern. Jarryd had surgery on his foot last month, so only he and the Suns doctors know how that has been playing out. We might have made a sacrifice, but I wouldn't go as far as to say losing him is a mistake. We've already signed his replacement.

Couple of injuries to our mids this year and Im sure we will be crying out for a Lyons on our list.

Im in the pissed off camp at the moment... Pressure will be on Dew next year to prove all these decisions have been warranted.

I'm reliably informed that Lyons wanted to leave and play with his brother while he knew they were both in the system. When he told the club he would not have re-signed next year, we opted to part with ways with him early to just quicken that whole process.

It was a shock when Lyons got dropped mid year so there must be more to it.
Dew must have a lot of faith that Brodie, Ainsworth & Bowes will step up.
They have to
If they don't step up- well that would be the disaster here
Not delisting a journeyman mid who's good but not great
Does anyone really rate him above B?

If a contracted player wants to leave, you trade him. You don't delist him.
I'm certainly not saying it was done as best as it could have been. I have no peripheral knowledge about what happened. Perhaps he didn't tell us this news until after trade week? Perhaps we approached him about an extension and he told us then? Or perhaps the Lions didn't have the list spots at the time? Maybe he didn't make the decision until recently?

Ideally yes, I agree with you. But for whatever reason it just didn't play out like that.

4.1 clangers a game this year and he’s no better than Ellis, Miles or GHS.
B at most
