I would have thought that even if Lyons didn’t have what it takes to play mid he could surely be given a run as a forward this year.

Scrimshaw-can’t make the afl team unless the entire squad is injured and comes with an enabler father that feeds him excuses.
KK-falls apart physically when tripping over going up a flight of stairs.
Hall-heart the size of a neutron.
Lyons-Mercenary and one trick pony.
Unfortunately they are steak knives types that will need to find a career after football doing a Joe Job as they will not go down in the annals.

We could have done better though maybe BUT you are taking the emphasis away from my and committedsuns point about those that get sucked into death Trolling their own clubs by saying “close the doors” and “shut up shop”.

Totally agree re KK, Scrim and Hall. I was yelling to get rid of Hall 3 seasons ago - if you couldn't see his problems on field, then you're not a football follower. Scrimshaw hardly played and KK couldn't get on the park without getting a headache. Lyons was a bit of a surprise and we could have maybe done better BUT if he purposely held off until last minute to do a trade (and Brisbane probably complicit here as well) not much the club could do. Scrub out the barn and get players who can play hard, tough and committed. These ones certainly ain't.

I think if GC had the same situation again ( KK,Scrimshaw , Hall) they would do a Lyons instead of asking to be trade. DFA definitely go to their prefer destination without their destination club doing much. It is more of a loophole exploited .

Cameron says it will be difficult for one of the Adelaide clubs to trade for one of the Suns' early picks.

Cameron: I think we will bring in some exciting young talent at this year's draft that can make an immediate impact.

Whateley‏ @WhateleySEN 6s6 seconds ago
Cameron: We have our eyes on a couple of free agents. Dan Menzel probably doesn't fit the bill for us.

Cameron: We are more in a development phase of our list. When we were looking at what 2019 looks like, we felt we didn't have the right mix of inside and outside.

Whateley‏ @WhateleySEN 1m1 minute ago
Cameron: I had several conversations with the AFL to go through it (the Lyons delisting and Brisbane signing)

Whateley‏ @WhateleySEN 2m2 minutes ago
Cameron: We felt like Jarryd couldn't be guaranteed a spot in our midfield after 2019. We want to play younger midfielders.

NOW | @GoldCoastSUNS list manager Craig Cameron joins @GerardWhateley to discuss the Jarryd Lyons situation "There is nothing coming back to us from Brisbane."

You’re not wrong. While everyone will look at the players going out and think WTF are the Suns doing, every player you mentioned had a weakness or shortcoming in their game that won’t get a spot in Dew’s teams. And throughout last season none of them proved to Dew that they would grow their game to incorporate these roles the coach wants. Obviously we could have gotten more from the them in trades if we hadn’t kicked them to the curb or Cameron was a better negotiator, but we’re building a list of players who will play the tough, 2-way running style that Dew wants and any coasters will be found out real quick.

Quick question to anyone that has followed him through his time at St Kilda. Did Mav Weller develop a tagging/lock-down aspect of his game at all? I feel like I've heard that mentioned from time to time but don't have any information to back it up.

The only real benefit I can think of to bringing Mav back would be if he became one of our shutdown guys.

Played mostly as a pressure forward when I saw him. Lemmens role.

Still can't kick to save his life.

For all these talks about Lyons deficiencies he finished 6th in the 2017 B+F. The scores between 2 to 6 were also relatively close.

From an outside perspective he looked fantastic in his 1st year, but I would speculate that he and Dew had a falling out. Not getting picked when the team was getting flogged and a ready made AFL player not getting a game? If he was a regular in Adelaide's team in 2016 and he's not getting a game in GC 2018 then somethings up/

Well look more like Dew don't really want 2016 trade in( Barlow , Lyons ) , maybe they don't fit into his game plan .

CC on Whateley mentioned that Lyons and the club agreed to shop him around the trade period, but no-one was interested in picking him up via trade.
Brisbane, but through back door because of Beams last minute deal .

Looking at the Lyons situation after some Codral and a good nights sleep, the club could have easily said “no Jarryd we want you to stay“ and FU Brisbane. That they decided to let him go so meekly with a year to fulfill on his contract almost certainly means he was out the door at the end of 2019 anyway. I’m not convinced Dew has got it right yet but you’ve got to hand it to him for sticking to his convictions. Positive is that we get more Bowes and Brodie midfield time to show us what they’ve got.

Sounds like a great guy would he be a good pick up ?

Interesting interview.
Sounded pretty keen to make Lyons' contract for 2019 null and void. Wonder what he was on.
We have our eyes on a couple of free agents now. Outside runner.
Sounds like they want Brodie, Bowes, Miller, Florini to step up again.
Mentioned that the three mature mids coming in have defensive side to them (more than Lyons).

DFA
Outside mid - Marverick
Rebound defender - Whitecross
All done.

The dream would be Lukosius and Rankine at 1 and 2 and then Rozee at 6

Although in saying that I am kinda keen on drafting Caldwell now
I’m exactly the same... even without having seen Caldwell play. Sounds like the type of mid we need. Just don’t think Rozee will make it through to six, so if we want him it will be at the expense of Rankine.
FWIW I think Rozee is the type of player Dew prefers for his game plan over Rankine. More versatile. Lukosius, Rozee and Caldwell would be a handy trio. Can see them playing a fair bit of senior footy next year given our current list.

Outside mids are meant to be able to hit targets. Mav couldn’t hit the side of a barn from 15m. Quite extraordinary when you compare it to his brother’s exquisite skills.
I put it out there just incase Craig really go for Marverick and people died of heart attack because they are not ready for it.
