Do not want Murdoch.
Would instantly become a whipping boy.
In loses this year he collected 14,8,9,11,7 possessions and kicked 2 goals. Not good enough for an outside mid.
Is shite unless his team is dominating.

100% prefer Pickett although not sure whether his family situation makes it untenable.

Would consider Cheney as some insurance or even play in our backline. Need some experience down there with Rory.

None of the other dfa really tickle my fancy

Wouldn't mind Cheney as a solid experienced player in our backline. However, we seem to have a lot of intercept defenders now with Collins and Burgess

I still would like a Murdoch despite the drawbacks others have outlined. He is the type of player with some line breaking pace that only needs 15 touches a game to break it open, an Adam Saad type player. We will wait and see over the next few days what happens.

Saints also now chasing Murdoch apparently.

We’re chasing a rebounding defender as a free agent. Dew mustn’t have rated KK & Scrim at all.
The best young prospect fitting that appears to be Jez McLennan who looks a ripper kid and exactly what we need. Rebounder, great kick, intercept marks and wants to play for us! We can’t let him go.

think he may be on the radar but a DFA as well in that role who is mature

I get we’ve got a few defenders coming in but even though they are mature agers they are largely untried at afl level
No guarantee they will be afl quality. Also provides some insurance to allow burgess to play forward as an alternative if not workings out as a defender

As scary as it sounds Goddard is the best short term fix in that role. He’d be a really good mentor, great kick, professional. I expect to get shouted down! :)
Agree , sadly Cameron go no contact with him

Menzel going to Sydney, Townsend going to Sydney or GWS (again), as noted above St Kilda into Murdoch as well as us supposedly

would you take him at 34 YO in May next year versus a Cheney or Whitecross (both 29) who could have two or three good years left?

Look it's a good question.
Personally out of those 3 I would hope they are all gone within 2 years anyway. They would be a stop gap until we draft and develop from within only.
Our foot skills out of defence are appalling and he's great by foot.
He's a leader who can take control down back.
He can come across as a knob by his antics sometimes but he's full on pro and doesn't accept mediocrity.
If we did land Mclennan then I'd want someone like him to mentor.
But he doesn't appear to be in our plans, although Cameron said they hadn't called him (yet?).
Just my thoughts only.

I have been so totally opposed to Goddard
Never been my favourite player
But I wonder if there mightn't be a role for him
GWS had Chad Cornes
Brisbane's obviously benefited from Hodge
He'd be fired up if we threw him a lifeline
Why am I thinking these things???

Triple M in Melbourne suggesting Murdoch has had a medical with us.
I read that here too.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-11-01/axed-cat-could-fulfil-suns-need-for-speed

Murdoch will undergo a medical test with the Suns on Friday and rival clubs believe the expansion club is best placed to sign the 26-year-old after getting the salary of contracted midfielder Jarryd Lyons off their books on Thursday.

Murdoch’s brother, former 22-game Saint Brodie Murdoch, played in Southport’s NEAFL Grand Final triumph this year.

Sheer desperation?

I like it. Murdoch gets to extend his career for 2 years and retire to Southport to play with his brother. Can't hurt us as we are clearly trying to put hard bodies into competition for spots with talented younger players.

His pace is an asset with the new 6-6-6 rules where being first to the ball in space or 3rd to a 1 on 1 ground ball contest is going to be tactically so much more beneficial at centre bounces. It doesn't really make a difference whether his accuracy is spot on as long as he can fire inside 50s all day, but even then I would say our coaches could improve aspects of his game to suit our game plan.

Anyone read Knightmares draft thread lately? I know he is just a junior football watcher and his opinion is really no different to anyone else’s once it gets to AFL football, but gee he’s lost the plot. He’s thrown all the cliches out there on us.
‘Won’t win a game’
‘Worse than Fitzroy’
‘A list of state league players could beat them’
‘Essendon 2016 VFL team could beat them’

Seems to have quite the axe to grind.
