We should prioritize drafting mature state league players instead of paying over for all these players you mention .
Miles was rookie listed by Richmond after GWS let him go .
----+----+++-----
Miles would manage just three AFL appearances in 2013, with averages of 13 disposals four tackles and four marks.[7] He did however kick his first career goal in a round 9 loss to Hawthorn at York Park.[8]

At the conclusion of the 2013 season the Giants decided not to offer Miles a new contract. Efforts to move him during the trade period all failed and he was later de-listed by the club.[1] He had played ten games across two seasons.
Miles was subsequently drafted by the Richmond Football Club with the club's second pick and 27th pick overall in the 2014 Rookie Draft.
Gee you are giving the old edit function a workout tonight.

Who said anything about paying the free agent overs ?
They would all come cheap as they are looking for more opportunity so at the end of the day that's not going to push current player out looking for money they will all stay on good money in a successful team just like the Hawks and cats have done

That's what you are saying , is it true or not ? Not with Mitchell and Lewis and Hartung .

1) I am not against Trading in players if they are a lot better than current listed players
2) if you can get big bodies players in Rookie draft or ND draft why paid more . (Billy Hartung pick 77, deboer pick 55)

I think this more or less sums up our situation. If we can attract quality players, happy to trade for them. But history says that is very unlikely.

Imo, our team won't improve until we add more quality to the midfield. If we can't get a midfielder in the trade market as good as Swallow, why bother?

Would hope we are asking questions of any quality mids who are out of contract, and offering top dollar. But also being realistic about the likely answer. Just like with Tom Mitchell. We offered the most $ and the best trade with Sydney, but got knocked back. Keep asking, but our default position should be the draft, the academy, and mature players with late picks/rookies.

The worst thing about continually going back to the draft is you lose your top players when they’re at the right age take lynch for instance he can’t probably see any success in the next 5 years because our list is majority of young players through the draft so why would he bother re-signing

Oh, I agree it is a bad option for us, having to go back to the draft every year.
But it is still the best option we have. The others are worse.

I have said before that our best chance is to get about 10 quality players through the draft/academy in a 4 or 5 year period. Add in a couple of quality players who have stuck around, and we have a group that (1) can see the benefit of staying together and (2) have enough quality players to push for finals.

I have also said before that the hardest thing for us to do is work our which of our young players are long term quality players.

Couldn't agree more. The quick fix isn't there and the draft/academy is our only hope of bringing in quality mids.
The only was of snaring an A grader is paying way overs, offering a 6+ year deal or attracted to the GC lifestyle away from the fishbowl in Melbourne.

Wines and Gaff will be good addition.

Haha wow yesterday you didn't want to bring in two very good free agent because it would cost the club to much (in reality we would give up nothing to get them and would come cheap $ wise)

Now you want to sell the farm and get two of the most expensive players in the game :drunk:

After reading Stroppy explaination yes , I prefer his opinion than yours . I don't want FA that their own bulldog supporter don't even rated them . Everyone said Dalhaus disposal let him down this year .

Huh, I'm confused? Do you think he and Stroppy are the same? Please tell me you don't....
Nah I am joining GC BF because of Weller Deal. Let's not make it complicated, I think GC paid over for the deal and don't like how all players walk out from a club because of previous management.

Wallis and dahlhaus are both proven players. And both have hit low A grade status at some point in the last 3 years. Currently both going poorly dahl is obviously not happy at the club. Wallis hadnt been the same since his leg injury a few years ago.

The question of bringing in senior talent really falls on if we keep lynch or not. If we dont and we accept compo we wont be bringing in any big name free agents as to damage our compo selection. If we trade him then we will likely try for free agents but probably will have to settle for B graders.

If lynch stays we have a strong case to go very hard at a Gaff or the like to bolster our midfield and shoot up the ladder.

We do have some success recruiting players from WA clubs.

Until recently thought Dahlhaus would be a reasonable pickup but after watching last couple of games would be a no from me.
Tenacious --yes-determined -yes
Disposal -poor
Scoreboard pressure poor
Would not come cheap ;simply not going to take us forward.
Wallis if cheap might add a bit of depth but also not likely to improve us by much.
Bottom line not worth the effort.
Probably one of the most difficult questions facing the club at the moment!
Which is the best way forward in relation to draft and recruiting top up players.
For me early draft picks should be used on best young talent unless needed for elite players.
Later picks used for academy and mature aged players.
I know we haven't had a lot of success with lower league players but reckon there still worth the risk
compared to other club rejects .Hope is what drives success.
Don't envy clubs management.

PS Eddie has no concern for the future of football .

Allies

BAILEY SCOTT | MID | D.O.B – 07/09/2000 | 186CM | 74KG

STATS: 19 disposals (7 contested), 5 marks, 4 tackles, 4 clearances.

Scott, who will have a decision between AFL clubs North Melbourne, Geelong and Gold Coast at the end of the year, played his second consecutive good game for the Allies. What I like most about Scott is his competitiveness and ability to play in multiple positions. There was a particular passage of play where he threw himself at a marking contest and got absolutely cleaned up. But due to his competitiveness, he was able to respond straight away, fighting for the ball and gathering possession. Scott was also very powerful in contested situations and was able to release the ball by hand to his teammates on the outside. Queries on his speed, but Scott is undoubtedly a smart footballer, who makes good decisions with ball in hand and uses it well.

FRASER TURNER | MID | D.O.B – 26/12/2000 | 186CM | 75KG
STATS: 25 disposals (3 contested), 9 marks, 11 handball receives, 1 tackle.

Turner was prolific for the Allies, finding plenty of the ball and using it well. He worked hard in all areas of the ground and found a lot of space. Turner spent the majority of the game on the outside of the contest, where he constantly made the effort in making himself an attractive option for his fellow teammates. A ball magnet, with clean skills, who works extremely hard. Another solid outing from the gun midfielder

METRO

BAILEY SMITH | MID | D.O.B – 07/12/2000 | 185CM | 82KG
STATS: 26 disposals (12 contested), 3 tackles, 3 marks, 3 clearances.

It was another dominant performance from the highly-rated midfielder from the Sandringham Dragons. Smith was the clear best-on-ground in my opinion. He was able to play four good quarters and found plenty of the ball around the ground. Smith is capable of playing on the inside and outside of the contest. His contested work is top notch and he’s an extremely competitive footballer who plays with serious intent. Smith also has a wonderful burst of speed and he’s able to hurt the opposition when he finds the tiniest bit of space. Smith also works very hard to find space to make himself an option for his teammates due to his elite endurance.

JAMES ROWBOTTOM | MID | D.O.B – 19/09/2000 | 185CM | 78KG
STATS: 19 disposals (12 contested), 2 marks, 1 tackle, 6 clearances.

Rowbottom had the most clearances on the ground with 6, demonstrating just how important and influential he is around the contest. He wasn’t afraid to put his head over the ball, winning 12 contest possessions (the third most on the ground). Rowbottom can also win the ball on the outside and he was definitely one of the better users by foot for Metro. Rowbottom is clean, smart, makes good decisions and has improved his defensive work. His stocks are definitely rising with every game he plays.
