Hope May and a few other boys had a little chat with Jake Lloyd and Aliir Aliir today.

Loved Aliir's game today he is great to watch 24 disposals 14 contested at 83% 7 marks 5 rebound 50s

You win premierships by going to the Draft, but you don't win them in the short term with that strategy. Trade and Free Agency will always play a part, but growing our own players through Drafting and the Academy is working. The Teenagers who played today in both grades showed how to defeat the behemoth. Nurture them, bring in some more ready to play talent through all 3 avenues and start again in 2019. Weasel out the wantaways and try to get a better Draft position = fewer picks higher up the board. Keep Drafting top talent and keep getting Academy players cheaply. Today's Teenagers showed how many games you need to put into youth before they start to show their class.

Steve Waugh played 29 Test Matches before he won one or scored a century. We've got 10 Steve Waughs, but if we keep trading them away we'll never see their potential. Michael Tuck played 55 Reserves matches before becoming a multiple Premiership Captain and then all time highest games player after 3 seasons in 2nd Grade. Winning cultures don't come from buying the best players, it comes from building with the players you already have embedded in your existing culture and bringing up the level of the entire squad. Didn't you see how happy the NEAFL players were for their mates after the game? I hope all of our guys play 50+ NEAFL games in future if it gives us Michael Tucks.

:thumbsu: Like this greatly - Welcome Back 17er

Pretty safe to say or assume that we would've appealed to Lloyd and Newman after today's performance! Watch this space.
Think you can keep Lloyd - appears a down hill skier - didn't show much when they were under the pump. Newman at least fought things out but wasn't impressed with him either. Got to be better out there … all about whether they will come to us or not...

Lloyd was number 1 for meters gained today just in front of Weller and miller.
Lloyd had 25 disposals at 80% 9 rebound 50s 3 inside 50s and 6 score involvements.
Lloyd and harbrow would be unstoppable coming off halfback and will free up weller for more midfield time and we wouldn't have to sent Martin down back as much to help out would keep him fresh for forward/mid rotation

Stuart Dew would know exactly what he needs and if Lloyd & Newman is what he wants then have trust in his decision and back him, Great win today and can see the building blocks and something happening amongst the younger kids (similar to brisbane feeling) Just need to have faith and back the kids and just bring in young elite talent.

Great to see you guys happy and talking positives hope it continue's (except against us ;))

Nice statistics - but doesn't change my view of Lloyd - 1 Tackle ? - largely plays bruise free. Never at the coal face when team is under pressure. That's maybe why Sydney haven't already resigned him.
Newman is a bit the same - 6 tackles today is better - he's a left footer - so a different player .
Given choice of both would take Newman - he's also likely to be cheaper.
And how many running defenders do we need anyway...?
Maybe a few marking forwards wouldn't go astray...?

That's fine we all have different opinions.
Sydney don't gift games to anybody so must mean something that Lloyd is the fastest swan to 100 games.
It's also been reported Swans have offered Lloyd a new contract but he's turned them down twice now because they don't have any money left in the cap

The Suns have quite a number of lefties. In tried to do a census, but there are actually quite a lot of players on the list willing to kick with both feet which is a damn good sign. Not sure we'd want any more lefties though, especially down back.

If Lloyd wants to come you have to take him. He is AFL standard footballer who wants (perhaps) to come here. He also has high kicking efficiency which we desperately need. He would be in our best 22 comfortably.

Not at all cost . He is not AFL standard when he first drafted in Rookie draft . Build you own team .

Needs to be over on your Rising Star thread..
IMO Brodie likely to be this weeks Rising Star nomination.
Team won and he had 27 disposals - with the stats above over 5 games - should be a shoe in

Had it just been about the stats I would have put it in the rising star thread but it was more about addressing the rumour of Carlton going after Brodie this offseason. Genuinely just hope we don't entertain any trades for him

I barely noticed Lloyd at all yesterday to be honest, which is strange if he led meters gained. Felt like he had very little impact. By contrast you really notice Lachie with the way he bursts from packs and kicks long. The only time I noticed Newman is when he hospital handballed it to his teammates. Probably not very good auditions for us.

Relax. We aren't trading Brodie.

Sexton seemed to be really pissing Lloyd off
Wonder how much little things like that get taken into account by players when considering moving clubs.. probably not a lot but interesting to consider nonetheless

"Lynch will likely depart and there's talk Swallow is also looking to exit"

Just read this in the 9 things we learnt article on AFL website.
I don't really follow all the trade talks etc.. first time I've heard this mentioned though. Is this something that people are talking about?
