Was lucky last night to sit in a corporate box and listen to Mark Evans plans , was very honest and spoke for about an hour about where we are at.
Not confident at all Lynch will stay , hasn’t opened talks on contract at all , seemed disappointed that the captain was doing this.
Said we will be younger next year , Barlow and Rosa will be delisted , rischitelli will be given a new contract , Harbrow will re-sign along with a few younger guys.
We will be looking at 2 mature players in off season , said could be from state league or another club , Suns have not spoken to Jake Lloyd there is no contract in front of him he said , all media talk , got the feeling we will go heavy into draft.
A lot of media spec regarding Swallow , said he will be going no where , is a lifer with the suns but didn’t seem as confident regarding May , said they are going to sit down with him at end of season cause they don’t want the Lynch fiasco next year.
There was a lot more I can’t think of the top of my head atm , but a great thing for members to witness to listen what’s happening in he innner sanctum.

Rischitelli getting another contract o_O

I want you to be honest here. For all that came out of his mouth which all might sound wonderful etc....Was He Passionate???

I ask because I’m very dubious about what those amazing genius’ at VFL House send to us up here.

I’ve got no doubt boddsy he is the right man for the job , he was all in didn’t shirk any questions , I’ve got no doubt he wants to see this through.

Thanks mate, informative read.

How in the hell can we get this late in the year and not have opened negotiations with Lynch. After all it’s a two way street and the club should of been more proactive in setting meeting timelines. Seems very naive

You can't open up contract negotiations with someone who doesn't want to.

Just match the offer and leave him in our forward line

You certainly don’t have to sit back powerless

You can be proactive, set meetings and then make it public that he is refusing to sit down. At the moment Lynch and his manager are getting away with a tactic that should be exposed. His media profile is already mud and this could force him to make his intentions clear and give the club the ability to set its own agenda. To say they can’t force the situation is defeatist

I remember from early days the club said it doesn't comment on contract negotiations. Maybe they need to rethink that policy as you've said. It makes the Suns look like the incompetent idiots especially in the Vic media eyes.

Doesn't work that way. Matching the offer just means Lynch can either - accept our matched offer (less money than we would have offered him originally), ask for a trade or enter the draft. We know by that point he isn't going to accept our matched offer so there is really no benefit to us matching unless we think the club he wants to go to can offer us more than the compensation we'll receive (pick 3 at this stage).

I know some people in here want us to match the offer to make a point but I really think that achieves very little. Matching an offer and forcing a trade where we get less than we would have if we accepted compensation isn't going to prevent other clubs from chasing our free agents in the future. Richmond aren't going to give us any of the players we would like and I'm not too keen on pick 18 this year and next year. I think we're better off accepting pick 3 compensation and bringing in two top 3 picks this year. The AFL will probably be kind to us and grant us an end of first round priority pick as well so it's very likely we'll have four picks in the top 20 by the end of the year (2, 3, 17, 20). Picks 17 (West Coast's first rounder) and 20 (priority pick), coupled with our second rounders from Essendon (29), Geelong (33) and Fremantle (44), give us flexibility for trades/matching bids on academy players.

Player has to want to open up negotiations.

Richmond don’t get him then. For the sake of one draft pick make a stand and not roll over and concede defeat like we have for the past 3 years. He has BSed his way through 19 rounds and we owe him absolutely nothing.

Ok so hypothetical - we 'make a stand' by matching an offer from Richmond. Lynch then says trade me to Richmond. Richmond tell us the best they can do is their first rounder in 2018 (pick 18) and 2019 (probably pick 15-18). Do we accept the offer from Richmond? Do we force Lynch into the draft? And ultimately, what are we actually achieving by doing either of these things? I would love to know how this actually benefits us because I can see quite clearly how pick 3 will benefit us.

Zorko, Beams, Fyfe, Dangerfield, Sloane, Crouch, Parker, Cripps, Merrett, Kennedy, Neale etc etc. All outside pick 10.
We need to get it out of our heads that picks 2-5 will guarantee you quality. Making a stance will satisfy me. We salivate over these picks. Richmond will need to find something if they want a $1 mil a season player.

There are other things that can be worked out between clubs also
This is one of the things that crossed my mind when i seen the footage of Balme,Lynch & Cameron at the airport

If there is actually a player at Richmond which the 2 clubs can agree on if Lynch does select Richmond ( personally i think Pies more likely)
Say for example player X gets traded to the suns for a later pick or pick exchange which adds a little more to the compo.

The only issue would be to convince that player to move to sunny Gold Coast and enjoy the beautiful weather and blonde stunning ladies
I wish i was an afl player:(

Would you like me to list all the players taken outside the top 10 that never even make it to 30 games? You've lost your mind if you think two pick 18s increases your chances of gaining a superstar vs one pick 3. Think about the last few number 3 picks that have come through - Paddy Dow (2017), Hugh McCluggage (2016) and Callum Mills (2015). Also, just for future reference, Patrick Dangerfield was taken with pick 10 in 2007.

There are no guarantees when it comes to the draft but having pick 2 AND 3 this year gives us a much better chance of landing a future superstar than having pick 2 and 18. I feel 'making a stance' will do more harm than good. Just my opinion.

I can tell you right now Berry and Witherden will be better layers than McCluggage. We’ll agree to disagree.

Well if that’s what you call making a stand then I’m glad you aren’t our negotiating man.

You make them on trade with other clubs to pay up and pay up good

Will Jade Gresham (pick 18) be better than Callum Mills? How about Brandon Starcevich (pick 18) vs Paddy Dow? This is a roundabout argument where we eventually get to a point where we realise pick 3 produces better players more often than pick 18. I don't like the idea of potentially missing out on a superstar just because upper management felt like 'making a stand'. There will always be superstar players taken outside the top 10 but the likelihood of us finding those gems is very low. We are far more likely to find a superstar player with pick 3.

We did that with Hawthorn for O'Meara and the best they could muster up was pick 10 and they gave up a lot (more than they should have) to complete that trade. So, once again, do we really benefit more from pick 10 than pick 3? You might think we're 'making a stand' and forcing clubs to think twice about approaching our players but in reality they are going to continue to target our players regardless of what we do.

#3 - Dustin Martin ;)

If Multiple picks are what the Gold Coast wanted then there would be massive demand for #3 this year
Adelaide alone would jump at the chance to select Rankine with #3 or if Carlton pass on Lukosius #8 + #13 this year for #3 would certainly be attainable

Lloyd + #12/#14 Swans for #3 as that would ensure they get Blakey for their later picks
Preuss + #10 -#12 North for #3 North Have Thomas that will get a bid inside top 10

So many options and so much value to extract from such a high pick specially this year with all teams looking to get up in the order for various reasons

In Summary
We don’t want to trade we want you to rollover and take compo

Of course ... if he is a FA its very convenient for your club. The receiving club pays zero.. which when you add the bias of players wanting to go to clubs in finals contention does little for the comp. It means the top end current finals clubs top up for no cost.
Just how many players at Rich would move to GC? 2 or 3 of Richmond's best 22 would seem to fill GC's more immediate needs than you giving them zero , everyone else moves down a spot and GC get another early pick.
