GHS looks great in an already great midfield. Imagine Lyons at Geelong. We need to go for dynamic players not dime a dozen inside players.

Yeah, we have the honest foot soldiers already (Swallow, Lyons, Fiorini, Miller, Young, Rosa, Holman, Barlow etc)

We now need to try and pick someone up with a bit of skill and pace around the pack. They will probably cost a first rd pick, but will be ultimately worth it. Martin is probably the only one I can think of with real x-factor around the pack. But I wouldn't want to take him off HB where he dominated over the weekend.

So who do we go for that we can 'realistically' get ?
Million dollar question really isn't it? Need to see how the season plays out. Not suggesting I have many better options at this stage I'm just saying he would not improve us as a side. I wouldn't even have him as best 22. Barlow is better than him and GHS is similar in the sense he is not dual positional + slow.

Bloody hell this Jack Higgins kid - picked at 17

First Jack Graham, now this kid. Sometimes its best not to over think things.

Need to get the trade and drafting right if not will be like dees weak mentality.

Nah all this type of players only look good with Martin and superstar around . Need to find Tim kelly , barlow or luke ryan type in state league.

Throw the cheque book at Kane Lambert, the 3rd banana in that Richmond midfield behind Cotchin and Martin. Give him an offer to make him think.
I reckon throw the west coast R1 pick + Aaron Hall for Petracca and their 2nd rounder.

#36 Stephen Cumming
– Stephen Cumming was the dominant big man of the game competing well in the ruck and pushing hard around the ground to be an option. Cumming showed surprisingly good skills for a big 200cm player, he was clean and sharp by hand & he took some great marks, finding teammates by foot. He won plenty of the ball around the ground and at stoppages right after a tap, his follow up work is to be commended and could hold his head high after the loss.

#37 Matthew Cumming – The twin brother of Stephen, Matthew spent all his time down back where he took plenty of intercept marks and used the ball really well down back. Cumming did everything you could ask from a big key defender, he took intercept marks, put on good spoils and he was clean with his hands and ball use. He worked in tandem with his brother in one passage of play in the second quarter which really caught the eye with both executing some slick handballs.

Exactly. Too much emphasis placed on flashy colts, then you look at the geldings picked up at a fire sale by Richmond.
Castagna rookie pick 29, Short rookie pick 11, Lambert rookie pick 46. McIntosh pick 31, Graham pick 53, Lloyd 66, Broad pick 67, Butler pick 67, Townsend pick 70.

Lot of Cumming and Nutting ovet these academy kids the past two years. Think it's a bit premature and some other players will be a bit stiff.

it's the new age of immature named draftees coming through. i remember the days when collingwood's team was full of dick, cox, wood, goldsack, ball, johnson, etc.

But they are the NT Cumming , nah i agree too early but prefer to look at other state draftee than Vic , as they are normally overhyped .

Who could ever overlook Steele Sidebottom?

I wonder if it isn't beyond the realms of possibility for the Suns to draft 4 or more Academy Players. Could we even consider tapping 8 players from the Suns Academy, 6 in the National Draft and 2 as Category B Rookies? Might require some re-rookied selections, like Lonergan, Schoenfeld. Caleb Graham has been talked about as a first rounder, while I suspect Bailey Scott will cost a Second Rounder (neither Geelong nor North haven't got him highly prioritised). Is Dirk Koenen's stock rising enough to attract a bid in the Draft? Even some 19 yo guys who were overlooked like Brodie Foster, Damien Burke and Riley Dreghorn could be worth consideration. The Allies chose 10 Suns Academy players last year and 4 of them ended up being drafted. Maybe not as many this time, but could this crop have quality over last year's quantity?

Honestly, a lot of those players have played a small cross section of games and it is way too early to proclaim Richmond's list manager a genius. Castagna and Short played in bad Tigers teams in 2016 as well as the champion sides of 2017. Lambert and McIntosh are workhorse role players whose success owes more to coaching than talent, while Lloyd will be lucky to reach 100 games. Graham has played 9 games, Broad 13, Butler 28 and Townsend 42. Let's see what Richmond's list looks like in 2 years.

These guys might be cleaned out for the next crop of young bloods like Mabior Chol rookie pick 30, Jack Higgins pick 17, Paddy Naish pick 34 (father son), Callum Coleman-Jones pick 2.

Sam Walsh is currently the early favourite to be number one Draft Pick. Apparently he's a Lions supporter, but I'm seeing Carlton as favourites for the Wooden Spoon and #1 pick.
Thoughts?

Maybe, but 7 of those named by me were a 1/3 of a premiership team and have started off 2018 in similar fashion.
