Any reason ? I am Tippa fan but GC hardly need small forward if Martin and Ah Chee are fit . You also got some class cover playing in NeAfl like Powell and maybe Nutting .

Martin was drafted as a midfielder and was only played in the forward line due to lack of other options.
Ah Chee played in defense last week, despite having few forward options...
Tippa played as a defender in his first year and looked better in that role anyway

He is playing his third AFl season now , if you keep your young players like Powell in NEAFL you not going to see him growth to be your own Tippa. I don't expect an instant success from import , look at Weller ,stringer and saad all need time to gel with the team .

* Maybe the inclusion of Stringer and Devon the reason behind Tippa form .

Or would should we put our faith in Wright, Day and Crossley and get in one of the better mids to bolster there with a potential star which is kind of what we’re lacking in the middle

Put our faith in Wright ,day and Crossley , KPP Take time no matter how good they are , but if Lukosious somehow fall to GC pick then take him , if not Rozee ,Hately, Bailey scottand william type will improve GC HF and Mid rotation .

Why not both? Any kpp kid we draft needs time to develop so for the next few years wont be able to handle being the main man or even 2nd fiddle. Should definitely use that lynch money to add some class and keep the others happy.

Put our faith in May, Thompson, Leslie, Day, Wright, Crossley as key talls.
If we can't entice a gun mid with $$$ then hit the draft hard for best available mids.
Matt Crouch, Parker, Cripps, Fyfe, Sloane, Beams, Sidebottom, Dangerfield, Neale, Z Merrett all went from pick 10 onwards in various drafts. It can be done it's just that Clayton didn't know how.

In saying that what do you think if may replaces lynch in the forward line? He did start his afl career as a forward. Bring in leslie to play centre halfback. It could work nicely.

Maybe. I remember a game at the G when he kicked 4-5 against the Hawks early days when they were a power. He's a gun defender though and I'm really interested to see what becomes of Crossley. Just his presence out there and physicality made the team look different. At 198cms he's in between though.

lukosis aside I reckon rankin is the next best this year he is a true game breaker and is proven against men in the SANFL. Hopefully the talls get priority and he slips to where we sit

It's what he does without the ball that makes him invaluable. We need a fleet of lightning fast high pressure skilful forwards which we don't have. We have fast+skilful and we have defensive but very little guys who are both.

Tippa plays very well off half back too.

Don't forget the dude kicked 35 goals last year.

You'd have to assume the SANFL is the stronger comp. although its interesting to note the Adelaide reserves are last in the SANFL (Port 7th of 10) and the Giants and Swans are in the last two places in the NEAFL (Bris and GC 3&4 of 10)

Re: number of players drafted out of the various leagues, i think looking at numbers is only part of the story 2 of the players you mentioned are ex AFL listed, who went into state footy with the intention of going where the chances were highest that that outcome would occur, which leads me onto the fact that the resources allocated to scouring the VFL, SANFL and WAFL are higher, so more eyes on a player the more chance of finding the recruiting team thats willing to take a punt on that player. (I know WCE for example have 2 recruiting guys based permanently in Victoria, while one of the WA based guys covers NSW/QLD)

Lets break that list down a little, given all you've done is listed a bunch of players that were both recently drafted and played AFL
Of those players the best in their first season (arguable, but my opinion) were Ryan, and Witherden. surprise surprise Ryan is the only mature age player in your list (and thus had spent the time in the lower league developing. Be clear I'm not saying that playing in the 2's develops you better, I'm saying it doesn't develop you worse. The improvement comes from developing your body, and knowledge of your game and skills all of which can be done in the 2's)

Will Ryan be the best player in that selection in the long term? I doubt it. Some of those guys have much higher ceilings, all I'm saying is the majority have been bog average (at best) players for their respective clubs in their first seasons (Notable exceptions Powell-Pepper, Witherden), and them playing AFL immediately is more a club marketing exercise (note most of those are either top 10, or clubs first picks) than some development 'fast track'. They'll come out the same player going down either route, just in playing them you'll have the team have to carry the not quite ready for it 18year olds at AFL level.

Ill give you a list of my own:

First three entries:
R1: Riley Bonner- Age 21, Drafted 2015
R2: Tom Doedee- Age 21, Drafted 2015
R3: Sam Murray- Age 20, Drafted 2015
How can it be that these three guys all had a best of the eligible players match in the first three rounds of the season? were the 2016 and 2017 drafts made up of potatoes? No they are just ready for AFL.

How you know they are not good enough ? Isn't castagna and Butler all play Mix AFL and VFL before their premiership year. One is a rookie list player as well .

Edit : I rather debut new toy in a midfield of Lyons and Swallow with Lynch and May around then send kids out to replace them when they are injured .

How good is it that some new kids get to learn from Barlow and Risca and another batch get to learn from swallow and Lyons and Martin .

I agree.

I don't think you can get a King brother without getting the other as I fear the pull back to Melbourne if his brother is there and he has to wait for opportunities here. Happy to trust what we have so drafting with an eye to team balance would be a welcome change.

Small/Mid forwards who kick goals and can rotate through the midfield should be high on the shopping list.

With initial selections I think go for smaller players / maybe specialist small forwards - goalkickers.
Our KPP's are already reasonable - Caleb Graham and Dirk Koenen are certain Academy KPP picks.
A key forward and key back without argument.
King boys / Lukosios - not Queenslanders.

Agree with the sentiment

specialist small forwards historically have not been taken in the early rounds (the Rioli's are more the exception than the rule) - players like Milne, Betts, Papley were found in the rookie draft, even a guns like Robbie Gray (#55) and Luke Breust (#77) went with later picks in the draft. I'm happy for Suns to use our early picks on kids who have great forward craft but also can rotate through the midfield (Rankine, Hill, Hately, Rozee).

Agree on the King's but it would be malpractice to not draft Lukosius if he was available as that kid is daylight ahead of the next kid available in this draft. Don't think this will be an issue as he is going #1 and we won't be picking there.

Looking through players profile and the number of pick GCS had I don't think club bother to bid on Koenan and Graham ,both will come around Crossley pick , plus 20% discount which equal to nothing .

Some of the players I think GCs might look at in this year draft from 2nd Rd to rookie .

1) Luke English
2) Sydney Stack

Liking the look of Graham as a Crossley like pick, late on, won't cost much.

Build us up with a lot of QLD kids nicely.
