We do have some talented KPPS in our academy coming through this year witb Graham and koenan will definitely be recruited by the club this draft.
But if your stretching kpps to all in the list.
We have the initial 7 i said plus
Jaska, spencer and ballard brings 10 kpps
Im off the firm belief we will recruit best available player with our early picks. But i dont think that means we stretch for a kpp for the sake of it.

Think you might be stretching a bit more than me but good to hear you have some good young talls in the academy. Here in Queensland it seems that we can produce some really good talls but rarely have gun mids commng through. We thought we had a good one in Keays but he appears to be stalling at this point. You have been a bit luckier with Bowes and Scheer although its early days. Interestingly we just added a young tall who had been pursuing a basketball career with the bullets. Fullerton. He was very highly rated in our academy prior to choosing basketball at 15 or 16.

We have to be hitting the draft for mids and forwards as we are just bereft of any talent in those areas.

If Lynch leaves and the Crows have a hard on for Rankine I would be telling them that pick 4 FA compo and the Essendon 2nd rd pick is up for grabs for 3 picks in the 10-20 range.

Gives us 5 picks in the top 20 + enough ammunition left to get Bailey Scott and Graham

If talent is as deep as they are projecting in this draft pool we need to make the 2016 and the 2018 draft our core guys going forward

Trade/delist

Lynch (FA)
Hall (trade)
Lonergan (delist)
Barlow (delist)
Rishca (delist)
Rosa (delist)
Nicholls (pay out/delist)
KK (? health)
Wigg (? - if need another senior spot - delist/trade/re-rookie)
Willis (delist from rookie list)

What is the goal with Leslie , taken at 20 in 2013 draft , after five years still playing NeAFL level .

A bit generous from you , I think the best GC can give is Geelong second Rd and not essendon Second Rd .

Very aggressive, but we will be worse than 2011 and have a stupid amount of cap space that won't be spent? I think if your cleaning house you have to throw a couple 800k contracts and over pay for some mids in their prime. Just feels like a vicious cycle...

Who want to come though , just because you got money to spend does not mean you throw it at average players. Some prime players look good because they got great players playing alongside them .

The only realistic way out of our mess is to keep drafting players and hope (hope hope hope) that at least 10 of them in a span of 4 years are all really good, like playing together, living on the coast, and getting paid more than they would get at a big club.

If we can't get a big group of young good players together at the one time?

Back to our current position.

Imo, our current position is not have enough prime age good players to be a good team, especially prime age running players. It was my fear coming into the year. Just not enough good current players.

If I was Lynch this year and May next year, I would be super tempted to go. Only 4 or 5 good playing years left, and we are at least 2 or 3 years away from thinking about finals. Ughh.

So, draft again and hope again.
For mine, time to focus on how our 23 and unders are going (Jack Martin/SeanLemmens and younger).
And the draft hopefuls and academy kids and where our picks sit.

We need to get the next couple of years of drafts/trades right, and hope we did enough the last 2 years. Need a mix of stars and top shelf players and good players to come though at once.

Tom Nicholls is way better than payout /delist
Before he was injured he was arguably in better form than Wittsy
No point keeping injured players , will be a waste of spot , can't help Neafl Team also If you can't play , at least Barlow is ranking up disposal and provide leadership to the young one .

Whilst losing Lynch would be a major blow and I hope like hell it doesn't happen(Sick of the Vic Clubs raiding the Northern clubs lists), I believe with Dew at the helm you have the off field structure in place to turn it into a positive moving forward as opposed to it destroying the club like some are saying it might. On current ladder standings if Lynch is to leave and you guys accept compo you'll have picks 4 and 5 and you could try and package up West Coast's 1st rounder plus your multiple second rounders for a pick in the 10-14 range. Adding three picks in the top 15(including two in the top 5) to your 4 top 10 picks from the 2016 draft could form your core moving forward.

Even if Lynch were to leave a core group of May, Swallow, Martin, Ainsworth, Wright, Weller, Miller, Lyons, Ah Chee, Bowes, Brodie, Scrimshaw, plus potentially three picks in the top 15 of this years draft and another high pick or two next year could form the nucleus of a finals team as soon as three years time.

Look I don't see the different between a top 15 to eagle pick 18 , if Lynch go Gcs got pick 4,pick 5 and pick 18 before second Rd . We can just seat there and wait for our turn to pick players and let's other club wait for their turn , with the change of Rookie rule , I think if academy players fall into that category the better . Those second Rd will be handy for Thomas Berry or even strategy bidding on Chalie Cameron brother,BAILEY Scott without compromise pick 4,5 and pick 18 .

But he won't be injured next year

Is this based on injury history of previous years or that he will be playing for his career next year?

In his 8 years at the club he may have played half a season of good footy. Doesn't strike me as a committed footballer and seems to be a guy who just likes the footballer's lifestyle and an easy pay cheque

Dead set Brooksby gave more in his time here - at least he could dominate at NEAFL level which is more that I can say about Nicholls.

In his 8 years at the club
Wow
Doesn't time fly
Have to factor in the Dave Swallow bromance too- although maybe not as much since Dave babied up
It's a decent thought though- he might just end up being an unlucky footballer like Dan Currie who played 3 or 4 of the best ruck games we'd seen at The Suns before he was inevitably injured again and Wittsy arrived
I impress on my boys constantly that at least 50% of being a champion sportsman is resilience and endurance

Very good values to instill in both sports people and people in general.

If I was going to go through our list to pick which players exemplify this to most I automatically think of Touk, Swallow and Barlow

You look at the Richmond model who all of a sudden after approx 20-25 games everyone is in love with after decades of copping Ninthmond and other poor performance, mentally weak etc...same players are still there.
Riewoldt arguably had barely any success for the first 10-11 years, and now through maturity is enjoying his deserved time at the top. He was much maligned on the field, and is now a a leader of the club and the broader AFL community and PA. It can turn.

Not really , prestia, caddy coming in and Vickery and deledio going out , with Butler , Castagna , Graham ,Rioli all pretty young .

GCS in a very good position in this draft I hope they don't blew it away with stupid trade .

Taken from AFL draft central and could easily get him at Eagles pick or second Rd .
Thomas Berry

Berry switched his time on-ball and attack. He demonstrated an ability to use the ball well with clean hands. In the second quarter, Berry showed a willingness to get involved in the contest, with a Dusty style fend-off impressing the fans, and showed a nous for where the goals are. Berry is also a strong tackler, and produced the highlight of the day with what was possibly the mark of the season with a huge hanger in the third term, before unselfishly trying to centre the ball.

I think a key element in any kid we draft is they need to have character and leadership.

If we are drafting kids to move away from their home state they got to have the character and resilience to be able to stick it out and make a successful life for themselves and not rely on their existing support network to make life easy for them.

In terms of leadership 2 standouts from this draft I've heard of are Sam Walsh (Academy captain as voted by the players) and Jackson Hately (school captain and principal's son). I've also heard Bailey Smith is captain of the Sandringham Dragons and really set the tone with his preparation within the Academy boys.

Any 2 of the above 3 would be good selections in the top 5-7 picks.

Tom Berry has captained Vic Country U16s at the same time as his brother Jarrod Berry captained at U18 side. If we wanted him we would have to ensure we had a pick before the Lions 2nd rd pick.

Good point - Exhibit A - Touk Miller

There's that word again!
Wil Powell comes to mind. Not goofing around.Making every game the most important game of his life.Character.
In my line of work I tell the young guys that no matter how big the job, they have to treat it like the most important job they've been asked to do- and footballers should be the same.I see this in Wil Powell when I watch him play...it might be NEAFL but just watching him you know he sees it as the next step on the road to glory-and no less important than a Grand Final at the G in September
No sulking about "How many possessions do I need to get a game in the firsts FFS?"
I see this in Touk Miller, Steve May, Dave Swallow, Ben Ainsworth, Jack Martin
They're never dogging it

I wouldn't say its major overhaul though? Not key cogs in the structure. The biggest move they made was actually clean their front house out, and give Hardwick a whole new team, and voila!
We got the new coach and cleaned out a few, but all the assistance coaching team is still there - I suggest more needs to be done in this area.
