Just get Shaun and McVeigh , both can still play and offer good leadership. Aka Stevie J and Hodge type of transition. Player to assistance coach.

Agree with that but those big bodies get sent to the NEAFL unless they get 50 possessions.
 
Ah Chee in particular seems to be devoid of scrutiny
Waltzes back into the ones while ball-winners and 2MP rot in the NEAFL
At what point did he (in the coach's words) play himself into the team?

I was sort of half trolling / half serious in my comment - your above comment does have some validity. It all depends on what your assessment of the list is and to what level of rebuild you need / are prepared to endure.

I feel like from what I've seen you need a deeper rebuild that what you are proposing.

The problem I have with bringing in 4-6 senior players is more around taking up list spots as opposed to what they can contribute to the team in the short-term. Unfortunately the club in it's wisdom have been handing out 3 year deals to players that are not currently best 22 (players like Schoenfeld and Lemmens, Nicholls), which has created an issue into available list spots.

I think they need to adopt a GWS type rebuild:

Senior Leaders: Swallow, May, Lyons, Thompson, Harbrow, Hanley, Witts

The young developing players with experience (Davis, Scully, Ward types): Martin, Miller, 2MP, Fiorini, Bowes, Ainsworth, (keep Weller, Crossley and Joyce as they can be local soldiers)

Everyone else then becomes expendable and you just hit up the draft as hard as possible and bring everyone through together

If it's a GWS style rebuild, then none of those blokes belong in the 'Senior Leaders' role.

None of them were any risk of starting a fight against a GWS side that bullied the Suns at Spotless, in the second quarter when it might have sparked a Suns resurgence against an inaccurate kicking Giants.

There is no mongrel in the Suns side - none at all.

Now, you can pretend that isn't important, but it's critical for a GWS type rebuild.

Well that's where we will have to be different because that's who we have and no one else is coming

Be up to Dew to find a couple of senior over the hill players (e.g. McVeigh or Keiren Jack) to show the others how it done - whether that be on the list or non-listed NEAFL playing coaches
 
Going by how NeAFl side going I don't mind andrew Swallow ,Barlow ,Risca ,Rosa type playing NeAFL for GC as non-listed AFL players .if No AFL club asking for their service .

The last thing you need is an outsider coming on here telling you how to do stuff .. all I will say in support is that as the saying goes ..its never as bad as it seems , and never as good as it seems. At the start of the year you guys were looking fresh and fired up ..now you really have been drained of that freshness by one the most dire fixtures ever to be structured. So I think there would be several players not showing their best atm. So heads up guys ..Im sure it seems bleak but it can turn quickly. We played GWS a few weeks ago and they looked a rabble and now their form has turned around.

My guess would be a new coach comes in and gives everyone a chance but after this year ..yes he will start to structure it to shape it to fit the style of football he wants to play. One of the reasons coaches seem to stay so long at clubs is the length of time it takes to get their list on the field. The draft this year looks a good one so maybe he finds the type he is after a little quicker than normal.

On your observation.. I didn't see the game so I cant comment about it specifically .. but I do wonder sometimes when very talented kids, the ones who have always been the most talented are grouped with other talented kids and its going wrong... being asked to do the stuff that the lesser players always did in their junior years. It sometimes takes a couple of years to learn its not TAC or whatever anymore.. Everyone is talented ..it more about repeated effort. And what you say is 100% spot. Sometimes they don't get it ..till its all over and they look back and say why did I mess it up.

we need a couple of tough elite players towards the end of their career to instill some attitude and belief in the young draftee's

Geez I would kill to have Cunnington and Sidebottom playing alongside our guys

Correct and these are the types that should be the target , Similar to when North went after Higgins & Waite

Losing Tom Lynch could actually be a blessing if the salary thats allocated to him is used to bring in 3 players like the ones you have mentioned , I wouldnt even be sour if you guys targeted either Cotchin ,Riewoldt or Rance to be honest and thats what Gold Coast should be doing.

Good mature players that have a an interest in growing the club

I love the idea, but I doubt the top management will go for that. Fix the medical part , half the problem solve , young , Holman , Wigg type should all playing in NEAFL instead of AFL when everybody fit . Crotchin , Swallow , Lyons ,Miller ,florini look good but if Crotchin ,swallow out injured whoever come in from NEAFL look shit again .

Who was the big name the Suns chased last trade period who did a walk through at the club with May or Lynch?

Obv they turned us down. But be good to know who we had our eyes set on

Nicholls only one year so is ok , lehmmens hopefully , schoenfield could replace young,Wigg or Holman if he improve

WA boy , flight risk already, same as Tim Kelly . But if he is committed to come I don't mind .

There is also the compo pick #19 Geelong got for Motlop that they on-traded to the Suns for Ablett. I'd say we won the whole transaction when Powell starts to show readiness for AFL Footy.

Like Wil Powell and Jack Scrimshaw, Shai Bolton isn't quite ready for AFL, especially with Richmond having so many speedy small forwards. I liked Bolton at that Draft for us, but he slid out of the Top 10 and we were already done.
