Mark my words "Brodie will be next Josh Kennedy in 2-3 years" It would be stupid to trade him unless he wants to leave. He just takes time to develop. One more year and he's almost there.
Agree. Hold him and Scrimshaw to their contracts. Don't doubt the process and stop going back to the draft. Back their development. Brodie showing enough signs to tell us he'll be a gun for the future

Actually Leslie looked his last 2 games pretty good, progressing with consecutive games.
I disagree ,Once May back Dew dropped him , same as Dawson they are not AFL standard . If Powell don't show something tomorrow he will be out too after two games .

IMO not fact, Dew bring in young player to learn the pace of AFL and if they can't adapt they will drop back to NEAFL to improve .

Hope the coaches back him in now he's back in the team and let him find his feet.
Don't kill his confidence by dropping him after 1 or 2 games again

Nothing to be gained by letting them go early - trust that they will develop with us

I am not against keeping him (Brodie ) but he if want it easy way out no point wasting time.

That's OK :) Of course, May in form is one of the best defenders and as a captain replaces Leslie even though May produced a lot of crap against Pies. He tried hard but cost us 3-4 goals. That direct goal turnover and little nudge from Stephenson were hard to watch. One game in NEAFL would had help him.

Dangerous precedent if you let blokes walk out of contracts when they want to. The Club has to stand firm on holding players to contracts otherwise it will be open season to other clubs to come for all our players every off season.

Collingwood's Sier is another example of an inside midfielder who took time. It was his first game in his 3rd year against us and now Magpies fans are raving about him. Brodie still struggles with his tank. He did miss most of his first preseason with knee niggle. Also contrary to Bowes he's not able to play at HB, flank or HF. I just hope he will have more than 2 possessions in second half as somebody mentioned here he had in his last game.

It is not so easy as you said Brodie to be the next Kennedy or Sier. Both club have great midfield ,at Hawthorn Kennedy need to compete with Burgoyne , Lewis ,Mitchell Hodge . Sier at Collingwood with Peddle , Sidebottom , Degoey, Treloar . Brodie ? Swallow , Lyons .

Yeah, leave him in for the rest of the season now, let him get a taste of what it takes to be a player week in and week out.

Leigh Matthews calls for draft change to improve equalisation

THE LETHAL INJECTION

Leigh Matthews thinks lower-ranked clubs need more draft picks.

The AFL great told 3AW Football teams at the bottom of the ladder shouldn’t get the same number of first- and second-round picks as the top teams.

As Lethal prepared to watch the bottom two clubs square off in Brisbane, he found himself asking how the equalisation system is going.

“The answer is: not very well,” he said.

“We’ve got to be able to give the teams stuck down the bottom more draft picks.

“We had the priority rule, but then tanking came up.

“(But) there’s got to be a system where, years outside of finals, you have an automatic extra selection.”

Lethal suggested those teams – like the Blues, Suns, and Lions – should receive four picks in the first two rounds.

Leigh said the introduction of free agency has worked against equalisation.

“It’s more fashionable to change clubs than it was a generation ago, and guess where they’re going?

“Mainly, they’re going to the top clubs.

“Tom Lynch? He’s not going to Carlton!”

Because I thought GC will be drafting both Walsh and Smith , slot them straight in to play AFL like mcclugae ,Berry and Witherden. Brodie will be surplus requirements .

Apart from May and Thompson who can play Tall , Leslie ? He is not getting any younger and look a bit lost when he is in best 22.

People forget Leslie only played 24 games and his last game he played was probably his best yet but got dropped for Thompson/May to come back in.. he been on the list for 4 years but can’t crack the side regularly because May and Thompson are playing in his position so only gets picked when either is out suspended or injured and he still only 23 years old

I suggested basically the same thing on a main board thread a while ago and got shouted down. I think it's a most logical way forward. Top teams can still trade their way back into the top rounds with players and/ or picks. Bottom clubs just don't have enough currency under the existing system.

I’d look at Armo, had another great game yesterday. Can accumulate the footy
I don't disagree with you , but do you want to rebuild or not . Brodie need AFL games time , so are the top 10 pick in this year draft and Bailey Scott if he nominate GC , i hope no more excuses --they are not ready , last year top 6 all playing AFL games except LDU . Getting Armo will lesser other the chance to play in the middle too in NEAFL. They is something wrong with St Kilda rebuild if they still depend on Armo .

You gotta mix experience with youth, not all youth. I agree with you also but needs a mix. Atm we have no leadership or experience

Should we look into bringing Preuss home? Townsville boy who was a part of our academy. He had 60 (yes 60!) hitouts for North's VFL team yesterday. Usually I'm all for bringing QLDers home but Wittsy is literally one of our best players and I'm not sure we can give Preuss the best 22 spot he desires. Unless we play him in a tandem role with Witts and permanently have a resting ruckman in the forward line at all times? Rumour is Preuss is angry he isn't getting to play AFL footy with his current VFL form.

He is 23yo and 206cm for anyone wondering.

I want him but GC already extended Nicholls contract , imagine Crossley , Nicholls , Preuss all playing in NEAFL that team will be very slow .

We do have leadership in AFL , Swallow and Lyons , NeAFL Barlow . No point getting Armo and if he injured like Barlow will take longer time to heal .

My suggestion will be Utility player like Hodge , Burgoyne , Mc veigh who can play quarterback , HF role so that they can shift around in the team and provide minute of the young mid to learn with minute as inside mid .

Disagree, I think he has something to offer
Is he somebody that are flexible ? I mean can play various role ? If you look at modern era players like Mitchell and Hodge , they can play Inside mid and yet be quarter back .
