Carlton may deserve a priority pick to some but due to the fact Gold coast have player retention issues on top of performance issues and we are in a struggling market their is a strong case for gold coast to receive more/higher compensation then carlton.

Carlton’s tanking and original sins of endemic salary cap rorting should disqualify them from the priority pick system forever.

Where was this confirmed, Sunny? Given the start of 1st Round priority picks were canned because Victorian teams were tanking, is this just a shot across the bow in case either the Suns or the Lions were considering tanking today for better Draft position and a priority pick?
Pre-draft priority picks were stopped ages ago... like 5+ years ago (dont know exactly when but a while ago)

So anything before the actual pick 1 will never be awarded again. Or at least as it stands currently. But PP of the AFL's decision can literally be anywhere other than that.

Thanks for your unsolicited advice. The AFL can give priority picks wherever they like regardless of what the Melbourne media says. It is a discretionary choice and the Suns have an ironclad case.

Sorry didnt mean to intrude. Just thought i could clarify it for yas.

But yes they can give picks basically wherever they want, just not before pick 1 as it stands.

People got confused by a tweet from ralph i believe it was last night saying the AFL had said the pre-draft priority picks were no longer being given out.

Anyway ill leave. No offense intended with my presence or post.

I agree with this. Suns could still receive a high first round, immediately after pick 2. But if they did the same for carlton i would be livid suns are in a far worse position and missing out on the top 2 players would be unacceptable the only way it could work is the predraft priority or end 1st priority

Doesnt have to be directly after your pick.

AFL could say decide

1.Carl
2.GCS
3.GCS(priority)
4.Carl (priority)

Just as an example and not taking lynch (potential compo) into consideration. They can decide where the picks fall. Personally i dont think the PP's will be that high (i think it might be picks 11 & 12 with potential lynch compo at 3 which would push those 1 further). But it wont surprise me if they are.

At some point I think we need to sort this out ourselves, I would be happy with 3 for Lynch and 20 as a priority pick, to go along with 2 and 16 which we already have. Gives us more than enough ammunition to attack the draft and trade period.

Any talk of us also getting a top 5 priority pick is ridiculous. The AFL just makes these rules up and just shows how amateurish this league is as a whole. The priority after the bottom 10 clubs have had their first pick is something the AFL could potentially look at, but if they were (there is no current indication they will) to just decide on it now without announcing it before the season is ridiculous.

If we get any existential assistance I would like it on list size/soft cap football department spending.

We need to get our back of house sorted first before we look at strengthening the team.

Also if we some how win this weekend and potentially push above Brisbane AND St Kilda, do those teams need top line priority picks as well?

All this is predicated off a Jay Clark article so it could all just be based off a 'feeling'.

Not sure where to post... this .. you had a ruck Rookie last year Cam Loersch ... lasted 12 months ..and is now kicking a lot goals in the wafl.. was there any particular reason he was delisted after 12 months?

On the PPicks.. I'll say obviously you take what ever you can get .. the afl made the mess that you guys have had to try to swim in.. but the logic of PPicks is another debate. You need help now so you get another kid? On needing to justify them... to me the PPicks should really get tied to finals appearances.. once a club (any club) doesn't play in finals for a number of years.. (pick a number of years..3 to 5 etc) then they should start getting an extra pick. There is a pr factor to the picks more than than immediate help imo.

I agree that cap and list size should be looked at too .. as well as being able to directly list academy kids.. so you do not need to draft them.

I never saw him play but Loersch kicked a few goals in the NEAFL swell. I was a little surprised he got let go.
He was on our rookie list for 2 years

As much as i'd rather Bailey Smith with pick 3 I could see us taking Izak Rankine. Looks very much like the type of small forward and player Dew wants. Strong tackler who puts on pressure and has excellent speed. Kinda looks like Lemmens but with way more game smarts and better kicking.

And combined with lukosious should nullify the go home factor.

Yeah I would take Walsh at 2 if he was still available if he's not I'd go Rankine and smith with our pick 2 & 3.

Just not sure we need Lukosius we already have 2MP Crossley and Day as tall forward.

If the afl are serious about helping fix the mess they created and give us pick 4 as a priority pick I'd take Lukosius

Think Lukosius should be a lock if he's there.

He's supposedly as good a half back as he is a half forward, can play off the wing, and I just don't think Day is the answer. Has never done enough with it.

Lukosius/Smith
Lukosius/Rankine
Walsh/Rakine
Walsh/B.King

Would all be good combinations for us to take imo

Watching us repeatedly breakdown at half-forward and halfback, and as much as we need mids, I’d jump at the chance to recruit a player who can star at both ends and help block opposition attacks and help that transition into our forward line. Always ample opportunities to recruit mids with our other selections.

I think there may be a little confusion about Lukosius for people that haven't watched him play but hear that he is a key position player.

The below package from the Allies game this year displays what he can do if he has got free reign to run all over the ground from goal square to goal square. A player like this you can fit almost anywhere into any team in multiple positions.
