Thoughts on Jack Lonie ?

Wants out of st Kilda he kicked 4 on the weekend against the Hawks.
Only managed the 10 games this year kicked 15.9 and averages 6 score involvements a game this year.
Sounds like he wants a fresh start and more opportunity

When I did a little composition on other small / pressure forwards to compare with Nick Holman he had by far the lowest tackles inside 50.
Might not fit Dews ethos if he doesn't work hard in defence.

Wouldn't mind him though.. someone like that who can actually finish has to be better the Lemmens.

Jack certainly seems poised ad makes good decisions with the ball. Some of his delivery on that highlights clip was beautiful.
I have seen basically 0 NEAFL, can anyone tell me what his defensive work is like? - Because he would be playing on your Jack Gunstons, Mark Lecras, Will Hayward, Adelaide Mcgoverns, Toby Greenes of the world.. they are pretty god damned good, dynamic players.
He is also a little stooped - posture wise. Feels like he is giving up a few cm's

There must be a reason that Dew hasn't played him this year, whether it is tank, or defensive work? I clearly have no idea. Would have liked to see him in for this game to get a look at him.
Really hope he sticks around. I think you really need one of his types - the Grant Birchall, Nick Vlaustin, Elliott Yeo (when he played backline) who can intercept mark and start the offensive drive. KK looking a bit shaky on that front - having Jack as an alternative would be ideal.

There’s probably 100+ other players who come out of contract at the end of next year, whose management are talking to (other) Melbourne clubs. Why doesn’t the (Melbourne) media focus on them as well? It’s a disgrace. There’s an agenda against the Suns no doubt. Easy target with little backlash due to our small supporter base.

Thats a question best answered by his agent, Paul Connors. I just hear snippets but I havent seen anything inappropriate from any club.

For sure, I hope Jack is not caught up in the go home factor or any criticism of the GC or from the GC of him. He wanted to go there and wants to stay if the plan is to develop and play him as I see it.

Interesting from my perspective, hes been emergency now 4 or 5 weeks out of 6 begs a question or two? If hes not played this weekend? What is the thinking behind that?

Here is a link to vision of one of his NEAFL games. Hope it gives some insight.

It wasnt his best for the year so its not editing bias. It is what his game was, good and bad, the entire vision.

It's actually refreshing to get this sort of information from a first hand source. Seems like he's got a really mature head on his shoulders and a good team behind him which is great to hear.
Agree he should have gotten a game the last 4 or 5 weeks. Rischitelli is looking cooked and Jack would be a big upgrade there both offensively and defensively.

His one-percent hits and ability to move through traffic as a bigger guy is really Bontempelli-esque.

We have to assume the Suns management are taking the right steps to prevent the go home factor. The tin shed vs new facilities is a major improvement thats been made. The focus on 4 qtr effort and competitiveness this year forms the basis of next years building platform which also builds the clubs culture and chances of success...next year Suns need to keep "defence first" focus but begin to hit more targets, especially inside 50 to be able to score more often. Defence and wins will build culture but how the players bond and the spirit around the club has to go to the next level too...on the right track IMO. So during trade and draft period the target should simply be, whats the best player available?

Love watching his vision and reading of the ball, could be anything as a mid with his size, I am convinced the club is trying to build his tank and body to ensure they don’t Jack Watts him. Hopefully that plan has been well communicated to Jack and he is on board.
Having said all that I would give him a taste this weekend to remind him what he is working so hard for.

I would have brought him in last week.

I'm a little bit thankful they didn't bring him in for one game and that one game to be against the Cats down at KP. That wouldn't be good for him at all IMO.

All the talk about getting Big names players , I think GC will end up with Lin Jong and Josh William .

GC have repeatedly said they aren't targeting a big name this year. They just want some soldiers to help support the young talent.

It's implausible to build a scenario where we break the bank to bring in a big name in the next 2 years IMO
We have been down the all the bald eggs in one basket route and it was disastrous
I think chasing A+ talent would only happen once a finals window finally(if ever) starts opening
Anyway, those guys never go to Clubs like us- that's why FA is such a farce
Just ask St Kilda North WBs and Freo

This Steven May thing is escalating. Im of the firm belief if we dont see him sign an extension by the grand final he will be traded this october.
Sad thing is i dont think we would get anything near what we value for him.

The Suns have already came out and said he wont be traded this year as he is a required player, do you think they will backflip if he doesn't sign an extension? In theory i agree if he isn't in it for the long haul, he may as well be traded but very disastrous for our club to lose 3 captains in as many years, it doesn't say much for the future of the club. I hope he does show faith like Swallow has.

We've kind of painted ourselves into a corner with May
He can't be captain if he doesn't commit and I fully support that
But if he doesn't sign the extension will he be in the dreaded moonboot all next season?
Personally it's a no trade for me because a year in footy's a long time and we can get another priority pick next year for him if he goes

Again what make people think that GC can't move up the ladder next year and May decide to sign an extension.

History kind of speaks for itself but i hope your right.
Then why fight against it , make the right planning , don't select him as captain is the first step , a compo pick next year is not as bad as Lynch departure as captain this year .

Cunning plan, let’s make Lemmens captain then he is surely out the door

If you guys dont get a top 10 pick or a late 1st rounder + 2nd rounder then you dont trade him - Simple

He will be a free agent next year and if he leaves via free agency then the chances are that Gold Coast will finish bottom 5-7 next year and would again get a top 5/6 pick nothing to lose but the club courting him wants him now and will have to pay whats required

Only thing is if he doesnt sign an extension but stays then the Suns need to really put together the future leadership group and captain
Suns hold the cards here

If May leaves, we lose.

If we ended up with a player and person as good as May with the compo we get for May we would be stoked.
It is the same with Lynch.

High draft picks are fine, but when you are losing A graders to get the picks you probably have a 2% chance to come out with an elite player like Fyfe or Danger or Oliver, and probably a 15% chance of a replacement A grader. And that is with pick 3, let alone pick 10.

Giving up good players for picks?

That way lies madness.

Adelaide will be coming hard for our pick 2 or 3.

Or will Carlton give up pick 1 for McGovern and two of the crows 1st round pick

JB Reveals Which Club He Thinks McGovern Is Going To
“It has to be done, I reckon"

Triple M Footy’s James Brayshaw believes Adelaide forward Mitch McGovern is heading to Carlton next season.

There have been rumblings surrounding McGovern for the past 12 months suggesting that he is not happy at the Crows despite signing a new three-year deal that is supposed to tie him to the club until the end of 2020.

The speculation relating to the 23-year-old’s playing future has got to such a level that coach Don Pyke was forced to acknowledge it on Friday and conceded the youngster was unsettled.

“Where there’s smoke there’s fire,” Pyke said.

And JB believes the Crows will trade McGovern to Carlton for one of the priority picks that they seem destined to receive from the AFL.

“I’m hearing the Blues,” JB told Triple M’s Rush Hour on Friday.

“And I’m hearing one of their priority pick trades is what they’re eyeing off in Adelaide which would make sense.

“It has to be done, I reckon. There’s no way a footy club would come out with that as publicly as Don Pyke today unless the thing is done.”

Triple M Footy's Jay Clarksuggested Hawthorn and Collingwood were also in the mix to recruit McGovern, especially if they missed out on Gold Coast co-captain Tom Lynch.

Will be interesting. If Adelaide get pick 1, then Walsh would be a dead set cert to come to us you would think.
Adelaide have signalled their intentions to secure pick 1 to draft Lukosius and they have the draft currency to do so. If Walsh falls to us, that would be a great outcome given our need for midfield talent and the fact that Walsh said he will stay with the club that drafts him.

I reckon whatever PP Carlton get would get McGovern to Carlton, I doubt pick 1 would be part of it

The issue is McGovern is contracted, so Adelaide hold the whip hand, they don't have to hand McGovern over. Adelaide have made it very obvious they are desperate to get Luko, so they may hand over the farm to get into the conversation.
