Hartung is an odd one, 2 clubs have moved him on in as many years maybe he has a attitude issue?

I’d be shocked if we pick up Williams he has been a toiler in the VFL at best.

IMO the club needs to back itself and feel confident they can keep players after 2 years based on the things in place now and plans for next year. So draft the Kings if they want them. BUT, they need to understand an 18yo who leaves home and enters a very professional environment where most of the existing players see that draftee as someone who will take their spot, is very daunting. Some react OK and it doesnt effect how they play. Others can take longer to feel part of the club, especially if they get set backs, injuries etc. How a player reacts has nothing to do with how good they will be as a player long term. Suns IMO need to become absolute experts and individualizing the transition into a bonded and strong culture. The club should take the view, those who are slower to transition, it doesnt mean they have attitude issues it means the club does. They need to get the best out of those they drafted, they draft multiple kids every year. A draftee comes to the club just once! Understand next year the club will put more into player development, perfect! If they do this, the go home factor will become a thing of the past. We dont hear this problem with Sydney for example. It took time for them to build this, Suns have to be faster.

It was always going to be after 1st round PP imo but with the 2 players from state league's i think that has not gone far enough

* Should be extra list spots for the state players
* Should be outside the cap
* Shouldn't be just state league player but also delisted players
I was assuming the extra list spots was a given. They could create a Category C rookie spot, and give them 2 spots for 3 years. Re-evaluate after 3 years whether they keep the additional list spots.

Never given the individualisation of the on boarding of players much thought but it makes total sense.

During the draft combine interviews the club should have the player welfare officer involved in all interviews to guage each player's needs and have a plan ready to go for each draftee about their induction process, tailored to their personality and individual/family circumstances.

IMO the best thing the club did in recent times was getting the draftees to be staying with the senior players as soon as they step off the plane so they feel part of the playing group they are joining.

Great if the kids were able to get exposure to the great guys at the club who have got the Coast lifestyle sussed out like Spitta, Touk, 2MP, Harbs, Bowes, Weller.

Just catching up on footy podcast David King said on Tuesday's Sen afternoon show with Andy Maher that he hope the afl don't give the Suns and Carlton the same concessions.

He thinks Carlton should get end of 1st round pick.

And he thinks Suns should get start of 1st round so Suns have
Pick 1,3 and 4 (Lynch compo)

Edit Here's the audio

Suns talk starts at 9:10 end 15:35

It's true. I don't see how you can give Carlton a priority pick at all when they have no issues with player retention in the Victorian market and have repeatedly stated they're in a rebuild and have had massive list turnovers for years. You can't give them a pick for doing shit when that was always expected. If it happens again, sure but you shouldn't get a priority pick for doing poorly during the rebuild phase

Yes it is good in theory but that has only been for the first week as I understand. A friends son ex Vic at an SA club meets once per week with a past player mentor and another time for dinner with the captain..the captain is really into the development of the younger players there. It is part of his job description if you like. Not the case at the Suns...remember other teams have had a lot of time to figure it out...Suns need to catch up and pass others. They have also in the past, drafted players that know eachother already. Brodie and Ainsworth played Vic Country together for example so they have eachother when they first arrive but its fitting in with the rest of the club that is the difficult part.

Just hate that the club does not provide injury update. You could be right about Leslie to go next.
I am in the same situation as you , I don't know where he is at , but Dew could like him so much that give him a contract , but IMO he should be let go due to his injury history .

If they wanted to continue to pair players up it would make sense to get both Lukosius and Rankine if they were available - both SA boys and go to Henley high school together + someone said Lukosius and Ballard are good mates

God imagine how pissed off Adelaide supporters would be if we took Lukosius and Rankine

They would probably be OK with it thinking they are a better chance to get them back from us in 2 years than from a Vic club

Yeah but then they’ll be two first round picks each thanks.

Perfect! In that case. important Ballard brings the new boys into a broader group...club cant have first years being isolated into their own group...older players have to step up and take them under their wing.

I actually don't mind rumours linking Ben and Max king with GC , the most important thing are nobody know who GC going to pick.

Really surprised Mav Weller survived the first cull at St Kilda today
Cannot see a way back to Metricon for him unless anyone else can?
List spots are tight with the expected draft action

This. If they can't get them they will hope we take them.

FWIW I think Rankine slides a bit down the draft. Maybe to pick 5 or 6.

I think the club would settle for that now..i think most crows supporters would too
Realistically unless you can convince Carlton to trade pick 1 (and with SOS in charge that seems unlikely) I'd imagine Lukosius probably won't be a Crow come 2018. Rankine though seems like he could slip through to your first
