Assuming we get GHS and lose KK and Scrimshaw.

Joyce - May - Collins
Harbrow - Thompson - Hanley
Weller - Swallow - Bowes
Sexton - Wright - Corbett
Ainsworth - Martin - Young

Witts - Miller - Fiorini

Brodie - Lyons - Miles - Ah Chee
Something like this perhaps.

Liking Bowes and Weller going up and down the wings.

If we have an OK run with injuries, our team looks alright.

Looks alright hey, Ballard needs to be in there IMO.. not sure at who's expense though. Can expect Holman to play rnd 1 as well...

No Day Nicholls or burgess either.

Day and Nicholls playing NEAFL will cost us almost a million in salary next year..

yay.

I'm interested in why you think Grigg would bring more leadership?

A bloke that left the AFL because he couldn't handle the rigours of the lifestyle and dropped a level down (and played really well mind you)
Amazing what a few years does....I'm sure his profile didn't have this when we was struggling to break into the Crows starting line up.
"His genuine toughness around the contest and tackle pressure puts him up there as one of the best midfield players the SANFL has"
He looks like he'd get out there and do everything possible to stay there - and that's the sort of player we need. Similar signing to Collins.

Grigg look like another Holman . Sometime players need to go to another path to mature and come back to the system . Leadership is not AFL listed players playing in VFL that never face hardship in their career.
Well said.

The club has made some big changes, deliberately and hopefully for the better. They have a new Psych in place now but appointed later in they year and extra funds for player welfare next year. All of this identified because of the problems that existed. I appreciate two sides to a styThe direct player welfare guy whos name I wont mention, was the person who was the conduit between families, player and club. He arranged houses for rent, helped them buy cars, made the call to Dads when their son was KO'd etc etc. I can assure you he has been moved on and his former boss gone too. These people were much liked by all players and families. These are all changes that were identified as required to take the club where it needs to go.

Bods I dont think its all good...I think its really disappointing to be honest. When I first heard of talk of coming home I rang his agent and him and did what our (assuming its our) generation would do...Harden up mate was the key catch phrase. But after understanding all the dimensions and details, a move back home really would develop him better as a player and be better for the Suns if they trade smart.

The biggest thing you arent considering is the salary cap space it gives back to the Suns to better structure their side next year. Despite what others suggest, that is the reason they are OK with the idea of Scrim returning home.

This morning I attended the PWC Connors breakfast and heard a panel of 8 list managers all talk about clubs becoming more mature about trades. Its easy to get emotional about loyalty and wanting to retain a player but not considered when attempting to get a player and what that does to the other club and their supporters. If you are honest I think you would agree that you would be the first one to be excited if the Suns were able to pinch a superstar. Do you reckon the Cats fans were happy when Ablett went to the Suns for example? Any chance you were happy about that? Was Ablett loyal to Geelong then? Now?

Bods our era is over, loyalty to a club is a different thing today. These players are elite professional athletes who run faster, are exposed to more scrutiny via social media, ie get more pressure to perform, cant be seen having a beer, strict diets, go home every day exhausted, way more than we ever did, cant
go out after midnight, have to turn their back on mates who might influence them down the wrong path...the list goes on. The sacrifices are enormous compared to our day.

They are tough well before they get to an AFL club if you understand the pathway to the draft. Sooky bedwetters? Nahh ahh!

Anyway Ive loved the Suns forum but wont bang on about Scrim any longer. I came here basically to set people straight with some facts and provide some insights to consider. Of course I hate to see my sons name trashed, father or not if you know the kid, he doesnt deserve that.

BTW, sat next to Jake Stringers Dad at the breakfast this morning, you are right! Theres always someone worse off that you! He was telling me what he copped last year...unreal!
After my previous comment I can still really respect what you are saying here. Anywho I don't get emotionally attached to player loyalty any more it's more so as an entrepreneur who's worked like a dog away from all my family to have what I do today I hate that loser go home and give up attitude that some AFL players have. I'm not sure if that's your boy to be honest but it sounds like you dont encourage it so I respect that. All the best whichever way it pans out.

Charlie will be the closest thing we’ve had to Nat Fyfe
He will be an everywhere mid
In the St Kilda game I saw him spoil on the members side half back and was involved in the next stoppage far side half forward
Like Fyfe he looks like he’s always half dead but seems to recover well

Sticking needles in my eyes would be more pleasurable than watching the Trade Table.
One segment about Port being disrespectful quickly turned into GC being a basket case....
Onto May and ended with Barrett saying he’s been trying to get out for 2 years now....

No point the Club wasting any more time and effort on Scrimshaw

It’s just incredibly frustrating that his pick was the Prestia trade. It will end up being us losing Prestia and getting some future 3rd round pick for him.
Was Clayton asleep when we interviewed Scrimshaw?

Yeah it’s horrible. Last weeks was bad as well. You’d think Barrett would get sick of the Suns bashing after doing it all week on trade radio but apparently not.

He just hates everything Gold Coast Because his club north was almost send up here.
He's always banging on about how the Gold Coast is a black hole for all sports on his podcast the sounding board

Must admit, this gave me a laugh....

Suns are going to trade 2 for Phillips and pick 5 in a deal involving Bris, Freo and Pies

Lel. But.
Stranger things have happened.

Anyway.
The King brothers.
I just see this as a perfect opportunity for the Sun's.
They'll be unlikely to play together anywhere else. Would mitigate the go home factor.

Thoughts?

Bloody hell. I don't get what's not to like about playing afl on the GC.
Surf down the road, new wave pool up the road.
That's where I'd want to end up if drafted.....and 25 years younger....and with any semblance of actually being a decent player.

Everyone in the team is responsible for the welfare of the Club and vice versa
If you are always asking what can the Club do for me you’re not going to succeed
That goes for Hawthorn as much as us

The talk from our coaches is that these young leaders Miller, fiorini, Bowes etc have come in and been accountable taking ownership of their footy club, their career not waiting for others to direct

I get that but kind of sending a message that other club can do whatever they want if GC had OCC player . Jack Martin , Callum ah chee next year can all go to other club website before a deal get done .
Wouldn’t happen with a Martin or Ah Chee. They have value to us. Hall is a flakey, unaccountable mid turning 29 next year. Now someone wrote we get GHS for Pick 80. No one accuses Steven Wells of being soft or a walkover.

In 2015 we finished 16th.
In 2016 we finished 15th.
In 2017 we finished 17th.

A change was a coming. After finishing 17th again, this is actually the first off-season of The Change. The first off-season in a while where the main people in charge at the end of the season will also be expected to be in charge when the new season starts.

Really looking forward to seeing how it plays out over the next 12 months. You could see this trade/FA/draft off-season coming from a mile away. Tickets stamped, money moved off the books, solid citizens recruited, draft picks galore.

But if we are in a similar boat next off-season where we are moving good players and young talents on, and the off-field is still giving us problems, going to be most annoyed. Like Boddsy level annoyed.

A lot of opposition supporters thinks this sounds like a great deal to get the King twins because they are good and they should stay together.

The reason why I feel it is possibly not the way to go for the Sun's :

1. We are well stocked in key position players

2. Lukosious looks a better and more versatile prospect than either King

3. Have already loaded up in key position players with our mature age player concessions plus our academy kids are both key position players

4. Dew has already signalled that we need players that can play multiple positions

5. After developing the Kings for a few years we will have 10 Melbourne clubs making them ridiculous offers that we would struggle to match

Exactly this. Plus...

6. Our midfield is widely acknowledged as our greatest area of concern, we need some A Grade class;

7. Vic Metro boys have always been the hardest for us to retain;

8. Max King has already done an ACL and both those boys are as skinny as a toothpick. Doesn’t auger well for future resilience.

I've never listened to Jason Cripps before. Was he half pi$$ed at that PWC breakfast or does he always talk like that? Silvagni made a similar comment about being happy for the top draft talent go interstate, because he could poach them in 20 months time. They both make me sick.

1. Which will allow the boys to develop, Thompson, May, Day won't be there when we raise the cup

2. That's your unproven opinion

3. See point 1

4. Ben is a swingman and Max could chop out in the truck but valid point

5. The point of taking both of them is to counter that essentially get them in a good head space, working together enjoying the gc life to counter that.

6. Another good point, but luko or rozee don't appear to be that either?

7. See point 5

8. ACLs hold no fear for me, i had one 4 or 5 years ago and there'sno weakness, tearing your aclis such a bad luck injury and in few cases is a sign of weakness.

Having said all this I watched more of Rankine's footage floating around. He is the A grade talent we need so I do agree with you, I just don't think it will be horrible if we do go down this path. If we do however it shouldn't be with picks 2&3 we should trade down to 4&5 to move up the order

The Kings are beanpoles. It will be years before they're playing at the level we require. We want guys who can play straight away.
Yep. As much as Dew is looking to the future, he also needs to keep an eye on the present and the pressure is on to show improvement, if not wins. Another couple of seasons with just 5-6 wins will probably cost him his senior coaching career.
