All the best for you and your son in the future Gromma, but I won't be wishing the best for Hawthorn.... ever ;) First O'Meara and now this. I hope you now see what the expansion clubs are up against trying to establish themselves in a non-footy state.
I agree with you its a very tough road for expansion clubs but the Suns are working on the key things that will help player retention. The big ones tasks are done already, great training facilities and awsome home ground combined with a great city to live.

The system does give the Suns trade returns so it is important what they do with them....early draft picks this year will help.

Trade Radio reporting May is happy to move to any Victorian club.

That's great for us.

Sounds like May is just happy for the Suns to get the best deal possible for him

If this scenario were to play out then I would assume Port go Rankine at 3 and saints go M.King at 4, leaving us with Smith and Rozee at 5 and 6, and then we pick up a Caldwell/Collier-Dawkins/Valente/etc. at 10, leaving us with Lukosius, Smith, Rozee, Caldwell and an O'Halloran?; a dream outcome and our midfield is more than set.

But if Adelaide were to move up to 4 and we had to choose between these 2 pairs, I would probably go the Kings purely because picking up just one is apparently asking for him to go home in 2 years as they are apparently joined at the hip and incapable of playing away from each other. With this outcome, a spine of

King
King
Lukosius
Wright

looks pretty damn solid.

But I rate Smith most out of the 3, and would put a bid on Blakey at 6.
IMO GC suns need to show something in the next two season , interm of improvement , I don't think drafting King Help. I Collins , Burgess and Corbett are well ahead of the king twins , also if GC draft Koenan and Graham there will be 4 skinny kids playing NEAFL and not ready to play AFL . Again if the Kings is not playing AFL much Victoria team could be coming for them in 2020, even just for one of the King.

I’ve said all along you guys should take Lukosius and Rozee but I’m wondering if the signing of Burgess who is very good mates with Rankine means that you might take Lukosius and Rankine instead?
No way would I be giving up pick 2 or 3 if I was in your situation

If May goes, there's a big chance we'd take Lukosius, Rozee & Rankine.

Or we wait for the May trade and take Luko and Rankine at #2 and #3 and take Rozee at #5

That would be an amazing trade period if that happened. Rankine has flight risks but hopefully he can settle in up as he is literally the fastest and most exciting prospect I’ve seen come through our SA ranks in sometime. I’ve seen him do stuff at SANFL level against men that defy probabilities

I see GC give up pick 3 for Pick 4 Brisbane Style ( Mcclugage instead of Taranto).
Pick 1 - Sam Walsh ( Carlton )
Pick 2 - Lukosius (GC)
Pick 3 - Rankine ( Adelaide )
Pick 4- Rozee ( GC)
Pick 5 - Max King (St Kilda )
Pick 6 - Bailey Smith / Hately (Adelaide )
Pick 7 - Bailey /Hately / Ben King
Pick 8 - Ben King /
Pick 9 -
Pick 10 -
Pick 13-GC
Pick 16- GC
Pick 19 - Adelaide ( valente , McLennan )
Pick 24 -Adelaide
Pick 29 - GC

Adelaide- Rankine
St Kilda - possible King twins
GC - downgrade pick 5 for pick 13,16 . No need to keep another Top 10 players for premium to stayed .

The system gives the Suns trade returns?

We used pick 7 on your son.
Spent 100s of thousands on him.

And he plays games on his phone in meetings and isnt interested in being a professional footballer.

we get a trade return = to a can of tuna and he ends up at the club he follows.

I think theres been only one winner in all this.

The Scrimshaws

It does appear that he has put the bulk of his efforts/time into players in the best 22/25, but what you say would make sense. Those on his good side can't speak highly enough of him; the guys you mention + Weller, Sexton, May, Bowes, Holman, DMac, Witts, Swallow, just to name a few I have heard say how much improvement they have seen from him as opposed to the old regime.

On the other hand, Barlow, Scrimshaw and Hall have all commented on him not being enough in this department, and coincidentally they are the ones who had already been moved on. It will be interesting to see how Dew grows into the role in year 2.
Makes sense. You look at top CEOs of major companies. They are extremely busy / time poor and definitely don’t have a lot of time available to devote to personnel who aren’t ready to play with the big boys. That’s what the lower level managers (ie our development coaches) are for.

Well I guess that shows how we rated him at least.

Well we rated him enough two years ago to take at 7 lol insane and shows what a circus we are that the clubs opinions can change so badly. Especially when all they have been talking about over last 4 years is picking players with good characters lol

Scrimshaw isn't AFL standard. No other clubs were in the slightest bit interested. Market value for a pick 7 bust.

Question is then how is a club so wrong in such little time. I have seen a pick 7 fail after 4 or 5 years. But in two years for a player to go from top ten to unwanted shows just how laughable our recruiters and board are!!! Add to the fact he has attitude queries when he was drafted at a time we were drafting players with good attitudes who would stay for long term

might have something to do with why the bloke who chose him has been moved on.

The Club is getting rid of people not invested its that simple.
As a priority they want them moved on as it is seen as dragging Club backwards culture wise.
Can people not see striking similarity bw KK and Scrimshaw.

I see us losing all our running and gunning players

Kk
Hall
And scrim losing some speed and meterage

Both soft flankers who were drafted too high and are always going to be “potential” players? Sound about right
