I think you cannot ignore Rankine , He is just way too good and must take the chance on retaining him

Unfortunately whilst it would be best to get all 3 SA kids its not always possible and if there are doubts as to Smith wanting to go home then there needs to be a call made to trade out that pick for 2 later picks or just trust the suns new management & coaching to at least have a chance

Just have to take the best talent and for me its Lukosius,Rankine and Rozee / Smith
Rozee won't be on the table at #6. I agree that Lukosius and Rankine are the best available, but you keep saying Rozee / Smith and I'm telling you there's no way Port will pass over Rozee or Rankine regardless of who the Suns select. Nothing is set in stone though because Carlton hold the top pick and they could yet deal back with Port or Adelaide who both want the Golden Boy Lukosius. Even the Suns could be tempted to trade back, as I've gone to pains to demonstrate above.

We are in an awesome position to sell 2 and 3 to the SA clubs. As in my previous post we could end up with 5,6,7,8,10 in this draft if we did.

To me this sets us up for the future with gun talent, speeds up the rebuild and avoids some of the go home factor as we know the SA clubs will be into Rankine and Luko big time.

Can't agree more , those 4th round pick trade with Port and Adelaide really show that GC are willing to deal with both club.
Don't mind pick 7 become 13 if Bulldog asking too much from Adelaide just need to get deal done .

I take 5,6,7,8 , 10 or 5,6,8,10,13 ( If GC really don't want the kings twins )

And end up watching Rankine and Lukosius destroy oppositions like Clayton Oliver while we wait for next bests to get a Brownlow vote
might finally destroy me

Bailey Smith , Rozee ,Caldwell can destroy opposition too .What about GC academy Koenan and Graham?

Suns need top talent not more top ten picks. If Suns can't back themselves up we can close the shop. We are most probably not into Kings. So picks 5,6 ... we could possibly end up only with Rozee as Smith could still go pick 4. Caldwell is not Smith level at the moment. It really depends who Suns want. I would be staggered if we miss out on Lukosius.

I love Lukosius and Rankine , but just don't think a rebuild team can be successful with draftees asking to go home after 1 or 2 years , normally first year is for building their body and learn the game plan .
No matter what GC going to end up picking somebody outside the top 8 at 6 if GC not interested in King twins and St Kilda choose to go with Mid instead of KPP.

If the Crows and Port are right into them we will likely be watching them at the end of their contracts anyway

The club needs to get this right, if they take Rankine and Luko they better be able to hold onto them

I’m not educated enough in trade nuances to understand your post
I just fear the worst in any sphere of trading when you try to get too cute

I'm with you - trading away the best talent for good ones down the list makes no sense whatsoever. We're here to build a strong team and young kids mixed with the experience we just picked up is the way to go. Everyone is trying to be too smart working out picks etc - leave it to the guys who actually make the decisions and then we can grizzle. Trading out Luko and Rozee etc is just insane.

I don't get it 5,6,7 are still top 8 pick , Bailey Smith ,Rankine,Lukosius could still end up requesting trade back home like the King Twins .

Anyone from anywhere can request a trade back home or to another State if they are a 'wanted' commodity. Just have the balls to recruit the best and work like crazy to keep them happy. Having the best 2 or 3 tips has to be better than numbers below, particularly this year. Don't stress - we'll get what the recruiting boys get and we then have to work hard to keep anyone given our position. Even kids born and raised on the GC will be tempted to fly away if the money and the glory was in their mindset. Harder to keep fly ins but when you support Suns, you know that nobody is immune from the temptation. In 2019, we'll see Martin and others being tempted just as the ones already gone....and a few of the new emerging talents (Brodie, Ainsworth) will be pressured. Part of the trials for supporting a new club.

Any draftee can ask to go home. All we can do is hoping that Suns do their homework and create the best possible environment for players development and welfare. A bit of improvement next year would not hurt either. Once we are on upward trajectory I don't think we will have any issues retaining players.

Hey guys,

It was mentioned by a poster on our board that GC would be best just taking Lukosius and M King at 2 and 3. Then you can grab whichever one of Ben King or Rozee at 5 to buddy up with one of them.

It may have been mentioned on here before, but I think if that's the path the club wants to go down to retain players this sounds like the best solution, instead of reaching for Rozee or King at 3. What do you think?

Going to be a very interesting trade night.

We already have a power forward in 2MP and Kings already done a knee, hard pass

Lukosius and then a trade of pick 3 to Port for 5 and 10 ( Rozee and ? )

Can't speak for everyone but I really doubt the Kings stay here. Rozee is friends with Lukosius which while doesn't make them twins it's the next best thing. Plus our track record of keeping SA boys happy is better than Vic boys.

I would be pissed if the King's were drafted. I would tear up my membership when they get "homesick"

Not going to win us a premiership

Don't let him bait you. He has some sort of social experiment going on where he just feeds random information into a discussion to see if he can get certain reactions. Mentioning Dirk Koenen and Caleb Graham is a cue for me to enter the discussion to reiterate my stance on the importance of developing Academy talent.

As for Drafting, it is obvious that we need to get the best players at the top of the Draft.

What gives you the idea that the Kings would be home sick?

Brisbane haven't had a lot of trouble lately keeping their Vic boys happy.

They are mostly Vic Country boys , not Vic Metro exception ( Rayner ) .
Calwell , Duursma all Vic country boys .

What gives you the idea that they would be one club players with us? I just wouldn't be surprised if they do.

Brisbane tends to go Vic Metro. They also tend to draft teammates. McCluggage, Berry, and Cox all played at N. Ballarat I believe.

Also I've only been to Australia twice both times to WA. Are all teams in the same state supposed to be the same? Why are West Coast but Freo is shit? Why does Hawthorn have success but St Kilda doesn't? If Brisbane and GC should be the same shouldn't all the Melbourne clubs?

Feel free to go back in this thread when you got time. Brisbane supporters have explained to us they tend to go Vic Country. Some of our knowledgeable supporters have explained why the King twins are the right fit for us. Feel free to check back in a couple weeks when 10 other opposition supporters post to say we should draft the King twins. It gets annoying. Check back, you'll see.

They do have all the signs of players who will leave in at most 5-6 years.
- VIC Metro
-Private school
- (I think?) already on record saying they would prefer to stay home
- need time to develop so won’t play right away
- will be getting big offers right away as potentially elite young KPPs

Although you could’ve said the same about Peter Wright. But having Touk here has helped with that, and he seems like a very strong character.
We’d better have done our due diligence if we were to go that way. And drafting one of them is basically just swapping this years first rounder for one in 2-3years (if we’re lucky, the way we trade).

I'll just keep quoting this whenever opposition supporters bring up the King twins. I think Young Guns nailed it pretty good.
