Drag a young indigenous player with a young family across the continent with little to no support group. Has Tim Kelly written all over it.
Agree , enough baggage to carry.

Potentially. Although the Sun's could do worse than unearthing the next Tim Kelly, hasn't worked out too bad for Geelong has it.

I mean he requested a trade after one year. Not even we have had a player request to leave that early

2 would be well off the table but trading 3 OR 6 I would consider for multiple later first round picks.
I don’t love the idea of trading pick 3 because I really like the look of Rankine and Rozee. But I see a couple of possible situations where 6 is definitely on the table. Firstly if Smith goes at 4 and we are left with both King twins available then surely a VIC team will give up a fair bit to move up and take Max, who would be a steal at 6. And secondly if Smith is adamant on staying in Melbourne and we don’t like him then I wouldn’t mind moving down a couple of spots and picking up something of value.

In saying that though, I think we are pretty high on Caldwell and I have a feeling we will take him at 6 now unless Rozee somehow lasts. He seems to be rising into that group of 8 weirdly despite barely playing and I reckon GWS and the Bulldogs will be keen on him as well at 7 and 9

Not to nitpick but.... There is no rule that says you have to go to college to play NFL. You have to be three years removed from high school. I have zero college but have been removed from high school for a long time now, I can enter the NFL draft, of course I'm not getting selected. There's kids giving up on college football every year to sign minor league baseball contracts. Most that give up baseball go play college football but there is no rule saying you have to. As long as three years removed from high school they can enter the NFL draft instead .

While teenagers may not play in the NFL they have been drafted before. Amobi Okoye by the Texans a few years back and just this past draft Tremaine Edmunds were drafted at 19. Both first round picks, both graduated high school at 16. I'm willing to say 98% of draft picks are either 21 or 22 when drafted.

As rare as it is for someone to debut at 19 or 20 in the NFL it's just as a rare for someone over 25 to debut. If they are debuting over 25 I guarantee they either
A) played minor league baseball
B) served in military
C) served jail/prison time
D) played in another league because they weren't good enough before

Also not good money? Jarryd Hayne made $312,539 in 2015. That's damn good money here in the States. If I made that every year I'd be visiting the Gold Coast every damn year. I don't know how much the conversion has changed from 2015 to today but today that's $440,576 in Australian dollars. More power to you if that's not good money.
You're right about the Hayne salary. I should have said his starting Salary, which was $100K American. Nevertheless, he was on $1M a year in Australia and since his return he's been on nothing like that.

The players I referred to as 25 on debut are generally QBs. Aaron Rodger sat on the bench for years until the Packers moved Brett Favre, who never got injured. Jimmy Garropolo sat behind Tom Brady and only had 2 starts in his first 4 seasons. Tom Brady was 24 in his first season as starting QB. My point is that these guys are commonly debuting at 22-23 and QBs take even longer. It wouldn't hurt the AFL if they made the Draft age 19 or even 20 and created a competitive national competition from which to draft AFL ready players. Nathan Buckley was close to 21 when he finally debuted, whereas Michael Voss had played 79 AFL games and was made co-captain at 21.

If GC pick 29 go down to pick 35 after F/s and academy , maybe a cheeky bid on him.

He's tied to West Coast so they'll just match the bid.
Well at least they need to use next year draft pick point .I know you like Clayton but is paid back time . Also if Eagles don't match his brother is in Queensland so kind of lesser the homesick vibe.

Eagles pick 20,22,61,72
Pick pick 61+72 = 135+29 = 144
Pick 35 =522 point - 197 = 325 point

* I don't think GC bid on him but Brisbane definitely will .

How is he “tied to West Coast”?
Through the Next Generation Talent Academy. There are a lot of players in this Draft that are already tied to other clubs. Blakey and Thomas are the high profile ones, but Collingwood have a few, and there are going to be around 11 in the first 2 rounds. Only half of those are father-sons and Blakey has actually chosen Academy over his Dad's old clubs. Brisbane's loss far exceeds ours when it comes to Blakey and Bailey Scott choosing not to play in QLD.

They won't care. It just means sliding back a few places in the 2nd or 3rd round. WA talent is highly rated this year, however, I reckon their U18 side suffered more through having to play most of their games away. Allies and WA always struggle because of the scheduling. WC will be aiming to shore up their list by choosing several WA boys, particularly because their Reserves team will debut in the WAFL as a "rovers" side always playing "away" and they'll want local players to keep the crowds neutral. Freo will also be looking to fill their roster with local talent and they will mostly come cheaply this year as they have Jason Carter and Tom Medhat coming through their Academy.

Up to you , everything also don't care , what is the reason having draft point/pick and list spot if nobody going to bid on them, waste of time . GC could bid on Carter and Medhat as well but they don't have family in QLD ,compare to Connor Mcfayden and Jarrod .

* I am just indicating the same thing as you mentioning other club bid on Koenan but in this case GC Bid on other club players .

If we did happen to recruit him and he stays on, that would be very encouraging.
Would be a great endorsement of the Gold Coast lifestyle and our clubs budding family culture. Even if he is a risk to leave, the cost of recruiting him wouldnt be huge. Get good people like the Dews and Swallows around him and his clan and see if he wants to leave.

He came 2nd in the best and fairest, contributed massively to the team all year and despite wanting out is being retained for the rest of his contract. For the minimal investment they have made in him Geelong are seeing pretty decent returns regardless of where he plays in 2020

Bad publicity from his partner , GC don't need it .

if it were us getting trashed as badly as Geelong has been from his partner, people would be swarming on here to tell us we need to lose our licence (worse than normal)

Without a doubt I’ll be in the minority here, but I would not at all be against trading 2/3 for Carlton’s 1 and a future first given that we will have 2x picks in the top 6 this year anyway, and next year we’d have another 3.

Added to the fact that Sam Walsh is as close to a guarantee to being a one club player that we would have access to, and Carlton imo should still be considered the favourites for the wooden spoon next year, I really think it would be worth it ultimately

I am not against your idea but too much work put into 5 pick in Top 30 by the recruiters. It Is easy to said swap pick by us , but those recruiters are actually spending a lot of times scouting and interview the right players for GC in this year draft . A year getting the body fit and used to GC Environment and Game plan could be good to this year draftees compare to future pick ( could all be tag as go home factor too) .

A minority of 1. What a terrible, awful, repugnant and altogether hideous idea. If Craig Cameron does this I will never watch another Suns game again.

I'm not trying to be antagonistic, and certainly understand your point of view. But surely you have realised by now that if the Sun's can't win in the media. No point in trying to run from it.

There are two home truths that Suns fans are confronted with regularly and need to come to terms with. The first is that the majority of people on the Gold Coast don't give a fig about the Suns, being disinterested in AFL and far absorbed in Rugby League or Soccer. The Gold Coast has long been a retirement and holiday destination, and things like the Vietnam War, the economic doldrums of the late 70s, late 80s and late 00's have seen a lot of people from AFL States move to the region. In my case, it was my Victorian step-father who introduced me to Aussie Rules at a time when none of my mates at school ever watched it or knew how to play it and the Labrador Tigers had trouble getting enough players together to fill an Under 12s team. For some of us, the coming of the Suns has been a long time in the making, but for most locals the care factor is minimal.

The other thing is that Victorians hate the Suns. Imagine being a Carlton supporter in Melbourne at Marvel Stadium this year in Round 2 and watching your team, the side your parents and grandparents cheered for, and they get thrashed by the Suns, a made up team that got all sorts of concessions that have cost the Blues a fair crack at rebuilding their list. You know the rubbish they say about us, but it is another thing to live there and hear people and their scorn on a regular basis. They hate us. And they are the ones buying the newspapers and subscribing to newspapers. It's a vicious circle.

However, there is a way to turn it around. Already on the Gold Coast and in North Queensland there are junior programs being rolled out that are getting bigger every year, including a massive increase in female participants. Queensland now has more AFL participants than SA, Tasmania and NSW/ACT, trailing only WA and Victoria. These are going to be the fans of the next few decades, who will come to the club in support of their own friends and family, be it for AFL games at Metricon or taking their kids to train with the girls U12s. The team's success will eventually convert even the Southern sceptics, especially if it comes sooner than later.
