The Suns Rookie list is different to other clubs because we have Academy players and the concession spots. We can have 6 Cat A and 3 Cat B, but only Cat A players can play unless an injury occurs and a Cat B player is nominated to become eligible for Senior selection.

Completely separate from this is the Senior list, which must have a minimum of 38 and maximum of 40 players. To the best of my knowledge, if we clear 7 Senior list spots and only pick 5 players in the National Draft, we could then promote players from the Rookie List and go to the Rookie Draft with extra spots.

Another thing to add here is that there will be a Pre-season list changes period and Mid-season Rookie Draft next year, so a Mav Weller or Dan Menzel who fails to find a club before the Draft could be picked up after Christmas or in the middle of the season. Basically, if a player is injured in the pre-season or during the first half of the season and will miss the whole year the club can bring in a Rookie - former AFL listed or nominated for the National Draft. Before March 15, the Club can sign a player and make the injured player inactive, but both players will count toward the Salary Cap.

The order for the Mid-season rookie draft will be the reverse order of the ladder at that time. This could see our list grow even bigger and any players picked up in this way can either be retained or delisted at season's end. It might even be a way to bring in Academy players who are top agers and narrowly miss being drafted in 2018 that are playing particularly well in the NEAFL or bringing back a former player like Max Spencer.
Same with other club and their NGA / Irish/international players , F/s . If they nominated for rookie B they cannot play but A they can . The Rules is the same with all other club Rookie A all can play in round 1 , just that GC got another extra 2 spots. If you look at Collingwood they knew that their F/S and NGA players going to get bid in ND , they can filled out their cat B with Irish or American players . West coast filled their cat B with basketball players .

Nah Rozee has been a top 10 prospect for the last 2 years. If anything he has dropped down a little this year. At 16 he was looking to be a top 3 pick, No issue with him at all
Spot on - Scrimshaw was selected on potential based on a handful of games, physically underdeveloped, could only play one spot, couldn't man anyone up defensively when he played in the back line and was the only player in the AFL that I've ever seen give up on a one-on-one chase with his opponent which at best point to lack of professionalism/fitness and more likely his pea heart.

Rozee was the best player of this crop as a 16yo, been rated top 5 of this crop until earlier this year when he had a quiet patch bit always at least rated top 12 player even then, played the champs well both the last 2 years, worked his way into being a relatively important cog in a SANFL senior premiership and can play all 3 areas of the field. Probably a good kid too.

Sounds like Scrim and him are chalk and cheese

Potentially a super trade coming (see below)

Carlton IN’ Picks 4, 18, 31, 56, 67, 78
Carlton 2019 IN’ St Kilda First Round
Carlton OUT’ Picks 1, 71 & 2019 First Round, 2019 Crows Third Round

St Kilda IN’ Pick 1, 14, 35
St Kilda 2019 IN’ Suns Second Round
St Kilda OUT’ Pick 4, 67 & 2019 First Round

Brisbane IN’ Picks 43, 71
Brisbane 2019 IN’ Fremantle First Round
Brisbane OUT’ Picks 18, 35, 56, 78, Suns 2r 2019

Fremantle 2019 IN’ Carlton First Round and Crows Third Round
Fremantle OUT’ Picks 14, 31, 43, 2019 First Rd

Would give st holds pick 1
- they could take Walsh/rankine or trade to port Adelaide for 5,10,15.

Carlton pick 4
- ? Max king / bailey smith.

Would be an unbelievable exchange so you’d have to think it’s very unlikely but could throw things into chaos if it does.
With pick 2 an 3 though we will definitely get either lukosius or Walsh so are in a great position.

Certainly would change our draft strategy if this played out per above.

Get Walsh at 2 and then consider moving 3 to the Crows for 8 and 13. Would devalue the trade value of pick 3 if Port got to #1.

Look a lot like Fremantle doing a GC Eagles 2017 Swap but worse . Fremantle Future first, pick 14,31,43 for carlton first and Adelaide third Rd ?

He gets to know the young guys and he listens to the best experts. Character goes a long way when selecting the right players to take high in the draft. His mock draft last year was pretty close to the eventual order and he's on the money again this year.

Yes like I said, he's well connected and learns what clubs are actually going to do. But I trust other commentators better as actual evaluators of talent.

bit stalkerish
doesn't look like him
Just thought it was a good sign if he's up here with captain Touk and some other Suns players.
It come up on my Instagram feed so how is that stalking ? and in the video it sounds like Nicholls yelled out izak

Well I don't know.. following players on instagram, freeze framing a shot and then posting it on a public site just in case it shows some dude.
If you're good friends with the players - just ask them. If you don't know them - why are you following them on instagram.
I know people do it - just find it a bit weird.

If it's him then yeah guess thats a good sign.

It is just a really convoluted trade that has no balance or incentive.

First of all, Freo have 8 players retire/delisted/traded and brought in 4 players, which means they are going to the Draft for 4 players, maybe 5 if they delist another guy to match their 5 pick. There is just no way they would go to the Draft with just picks #65 and #81 needing 4 players to top up their list. They also only have 2 picks in 2019, so giving up a 1st isn't likely either.

Carlton need picks, but they don't need these picks or next year's 1st rounder. Carlton giving up their 1st round picks for 2 years in return for garbage is laughable. Port and Adelaide have the picks Carlton wants and vice versa.

St Kilda don't do badly in this deal and they don't pay enough for the risk the Blues would be taking. There are far more attractive trading partners for the Saints than this.
why wouldn't they just deal with Carlton?

Brisbane appear to be the winners without giving up nearly enough. Even a desperate club would take this trade. Besides, the Lions will need their picks to match bids on Academy players.

Yes would be very surprised if it eventuated.

It looks like Chris Burgess.

Rozees rise sounds a lot like Scrimshaw’s. Just saying
Understandable. But if anyone is having a Scrimsahw rise it is Jy Caldwell I feel. Granted he hasn’t even played so a bit different, but it is odd that he is rising so much without playing in so long. What has changed that has pushed him up so much with no exposed form of late?

Jye Caldwell was being touted over a year ago as top 10, then faded out because he didn't get much game time. After the TAC Cup finished, Caldwell came back into calculations because plenty of players had their season shortened, such as Bailey Smith who kept rising well after his season was over.

It seems pretty obvious to me that Caldwell has gone to the National Combine and killed the interviews. He's been dropping down phantom drafts all year and then he gets a spike because all the clubs raved about him. Jordan Clark is another guy who has come into Top 10 calculations, while Zak Butters (runt, please, please do not pick him Craig Cameron) has not played since July but now everyone is suddenly talking him up again.

I don't think it is just the interviews either. These players are just kids and they get invited to this 4 day event just after the Grand Final where suddenly they are the stars and everybody is there to talk to them. Some kids are just self-assured and mature, able to think on their feet and handle anything the recruiters throw at them, while other kids would just freeze up or give monosyllabic answers. Looking at the stories, the Combine is full of computer games and opportunities for the kids to show their immaturity while hundreds of club reps (who might anybody from List Manager or Coach or CEO to scouts and even star players) watch from the galleries, compare notes and make decisions based on what they see.

Anybody who has worked in the corporate world would know how these type of cattle call recruitment junkets operate. You have 80 or so graduates who all have impressive resumes and the right kind of qualifications, but it doesn't matter one bit if they can't relate to other people, demonstrate soft skills and show some initiative.

To Get drafted in Top 10 learn from Scrimshaw How to demonstrate soft skill and show some initiative. I honestly think none of us had any idea what the recruiters look for .

Obviously, corporate recruiters are looking for soft skills and initiative. Football recruiters would have their own set of selection criteria. It was a comparison that I made because the club has been talking about bringing players with good character and attitude to the club. The thing we don't know is what opposition clubs are looking for as our own club has been rather forthright about what it is looking for.

Do you think 17 other club not looking for
good character and attitude players as well .

I don't make it my business to research and investigate what others clubs prioritise in recruitment unless it has a direct bearing on the Suns. I know what the Suns are looking for because ever since the season ended and the Trade period began, we have heard little else from Mark Evans, Stuart Dew and Craig Cameron regarding the 7 players they've brought in.

Good character and attitude are the basic you want from players. Who want players come to training late all the time regardless you do research or not .

Clubs all want a tough inside mid who runs hard bith ways, is physical, tackles and can use it. Can then go forward, take a mark and be dangerous.
He’s already got those qualities but unfortunately we haven’t seen enough of it. His hamstrings worry me but I’m no expert to say it’s going to be an issue.

Oh definitely. He looks pretty good from his highlights as well. It’s just interesting that he has risen lately without playing or even testing at the combine which is normally where kids will rise. Clubs must’ve liked what they saw from his hamstrings at the combine and are confident he will get over it. Would definitely back him in if the docs are confident.
