There seems to be this misguided perception, from those you named, that the club parked the team bus in front of the Metricon exit to stop all of our players from escaping.
They fail to comprehend that we actually filled the bus up ourselves (apart from Lynch) and drove these players to the airport.
AFL is a billion dollar industry and I’m not seeing too many clubs chasing this guy for talent ID. He rates young players fine, but he shouldn’t judge player development at our club based solely on watching us a few times a year on Foxtel....

To be fair GCs have not properly developed players in the past, but i disagree that the past define the future or the team can't improve because of past failured.

Was in the carlton home game we were 20 points behind at this stage.
Prior to this Bowes had kicked a goal, Silvagni had kicked on 60 seconds earlier.
The defensive effort from Lyons here at a defensive stoppage at a do or die stage of the game was abysmal.

That is him marking Wright at the top left in the first shot.
Wright pushes off, Lyons stumbles (when Cripps shoves him in the back) but doesnt chase
Ball comes to Wright who kicks a goal, completely unimpeded
Lyons is 10m behind just jogging, throws his hands up in the air.

These are the things that the general community don't see but it was damn obvious at the ground and things the coaches would be so hot on.

Hopefully all three Corbett , Burgess and Collins can mark the ball at AFL level like their highlights.

I can see Burgess filling May's role as a strong marking backman, even though he's no May. To make up for it, Collins should play that 3rd tall role down back, again not as good as May, but in tandem they might actually bring more to the backline than say May and Kolodjashnij in terms of defence.

Have a look at the Demons game this year with no Thompson or May and Wright went down early so Leslie had to chop out in the ruck for Witts because they were the only 2 talls we had left.

Our backline looked like this:

B Ah Chee 1.82m, Spencer 1.90m, Harbrow 1.78m

HB Hanley 1.85m, Jack Leslie 1.97m, Kolodjashnij 1.90m

Opposed to this:

F Garlett 1.80m, Hogan 1.95m, Fritsch 1.88m

HF Petracca 1.86m, McDonald 1.94m, Spargo 1.73m

Compared to this:

B Joyce 1.85m*, Thompson 2.00m, Harbrow 1.78m

HB Hanley 1.85m, Burgess 1.94m, Collins 1.90m

*Jesse Joyce is listed as 1.91m, but nobody really knows how tall he is

I get the feeling lyons had a bad attitude throughout the year. That kind of highlight shows he may have had the sulks nothing physically stopping him from chasing.

Absolutely love Ballard. He is a ripping kid who is gonna play some good footy for us for a long time
 
So the Jarryd Lyons delisting was a shock to all. However upon further reflection it seems like the right move for the club. Why you ask? Well.

LYONS avg 1.11 1%ers per game that ranks him 30th out of suns players.
Not a good sign for a supposed #1 mid.
Sure lyons can attack the footy really well but as anyone who has watched the suns enough this year will know the clubs game plan is a defensive pressured style much like sydney.
Clearly not adhearing to the way the coaches would like him to for our game plan.

Now 1% are doing the basics in a game of footy and are a great indicator of defensive efforts and hard work. This is not a skill but an attitude. I can completely see lyons having a poor attitude due to the suns bad performances and pressure on him by co workers. Clearly the clubs direction and his attitude was not aligned.

Rumours have surfaced he was shopped around during trade period but there was no takers. It seems Brisbane have since approached him with an offer and upon considering the lack of opportunities at the suns a more lucrative offer and a move to a more attacking side with a chance to play with his brother was to great to pass up.

The suns likely thought about keeping him but decided he wasnt in their structure or even best side in the coming years with Brodie, Bowes and Miller all ready to play more midfield minutes and then the ability to once again clear some salary cap to allow us to chase players or retain players in the next year or 2 was a satisfactory outcome.

So in conclusion a player with a possibly poor attitude, a lack of defensive ability and only in the sides plans for a few years at best wasnt worth holding onto. Especially at a time when the club has gone through extraordinary efforts this trade period to clear the decks and bring in a fresh new attitude. Refreshing a core group who had become accustomed to failure.

This is why i believe the Suns are heading in the right direction.

Saw Charlie's first AFL goal on debut in Ballarat after watching him go really well in the NEAFL for his first few games. It was late in the 2nd quarter with the Suns trailing and he marked strongly on the wing getting a 50m penalty for that dumb new rules nobody understands. 45m meters out with an unpredictable breeze where plenty of Bulldogs players had already missed from - Sunscreamers can probably claim 15 points due to putting off opposition set shots. Charlie put it straight through the middle like a veteran and every Suns player on the ground swamped him. Morale was so high that the boys kicked another goal straight afterward to lead in the sheds and then Crossley came out early in the 2nd half to kick a debut goal of his own that brought the Goober Stand to life.

Uncle Tom never had the swagger of those two. The first time I saw him play live at a similar age I told my brother I didn't think Lynch had what it took to become elite. I still don't. He's a manchild who has had wind blown up his arse from a young age and told he just had to get through 8 years at the Suns before he could go to the club of his choice. The guy is 12th for goals per game among current goalkickers, would have been 13th except Le Cras retired (even so, Lynch wouldn't necessarily be first 22 at WC given their other 2 tall forwards are better than him).

Looking forward to seeing Ballard flourish with some of his mates next year.

What I like most about Burgess in his video is that he acknowledges from the start that he's come from outside the talent recruitment system and needed time to do all the things a modern AFL player begins much earlier. With a different approach to development, he's still gotten there as a KPP at age 22 in the equal most competitive State Leagues. These tall kids often have another centimetre or 3 in them and don't fully finish growing until they are 21 or so, unlike your average 6 footers who reach their adult height by 15 and start to fill out earlier. And don't you just love the commentator when he says "Burgess! Who's kicked 3 already in this quarter can now line up for his 4th."
 
Also, nice to see the Suns connection to West Adelaide through Tom Keough, who Burgess acknowledges as being his biggest influence. Tom didn't work out as a mature age AFL level player and at 27 he's reconciled to a career in SANFL, so it really is a huge thing for him to mentor Chris toward getting into the mindset of having a breakout SANFL season to put himself forward for the AFL Draft. Craig Cameron has spent a lot of time watching West Adelaide as well as Werribee in the VFL, which has paid off given that the Suns requested this very concession.

Slightly more tenuous connection to the Gold Coast is Mark Mickan, the former West Adelaide coach that took on Burgess as a recruit, who was the inaugural captain of the Brisbane Bears and lived on the GC from 1987 to 1990 before going to Adelaide to join the Crows. Not sure if he had anything to do with it, but he was my favourite player when I was 12. Sad to hear he has Parkinson's.
 
All we need in the short term from Burgess is a competitor who can contribute by kicking 1-2 goals a game, bring the ball to ground, and not allow his opponent to dictate terms. Lynch hasn't given us much since 2016, so I don't think we'll feel the loss as much as some people do.

Found this interesting draft video of Corey Ellis back in 2014. His brother wanted him at the Suns back then lol. He's had an unlucky run with injury since being drafted. Who knows, we might have scored a bargain rather than a set of steak knives?

I see him playing back ,If GC draft Lukosius . Most probably play in NEAFL first .

B: Thompson, Hombsch, Leslie, Collins

F: Wright, Day, Burgess, Crossley, Corbett (looks more like a third tall forward?)

A lot of B and C grade interchangeable parts there. Preseason will give Dew and Co a good look at them.

He's a backman, but Dew has stressed having players with the ability to play multiple positions. Time and again we've had poor forward structure because our tallest forward is chopping out in the ruck. If we are playing with a backline including Burgess, Thompson and Corbett it might allow for Burgess to be swung forward, especially if the opponent has only one or two tall forwards.

Day also has the potential to roll back which brings the option of switching the pair around to mix things up, with Day possibly moving into a year where he either shows that he can be a key forward or goes back himself in order to try out a player like Burgess up front.

He seems like a guy who can keep a tall opponent honest. Competition for spots is going to be fierce with Leslie and Collins competing, plus the prospect of Koenen and Graham being drafted. Good injury cover can't be underestimated as we know Rory struggles to get through full seasons.

Hey so about Lyons...

He averaged 76.7% game time in 2018, was this because u guys dont rate him as a player or because he that's all that his fitness allows?
