Looking at Cal Twomey's Phantom Draft if Adelaide bids on Briggs at 24 then we should try to do a deal with GWS for pick 28

We could offer picks 59 and 64 (adjusted after earlier bids) plus 2019 2nd rounder for pick 28. This will mean that GWS keep a second rounder and only have a small points deficit (25 points). This will depend on who is still available at pick 24 on whether it is worth offering that trade.

Best result would be trading our 2019 first and something for dees 2 picks in 20s

Go to draft with 17/24/28/37

17 stocker/hill
24 McHenry
28 bailey Williams
37 Ely smith

Our first get a good inside mid or a class player who was touted to go much higher but had injuries and who could be anything

Our second pick get the solid Richmond player basically Jack Higgins quality tackler can play forward or midfield goes for a 30km run because he’s bored

3rd pick big ruck/kpf 198cm great hands and leap also super fast came 6th overall at combine for 20m sprint

4th pick Ely smith everyone on the board loves him some more then others

This would be the perfect draft if we could pull it off

Bailey Williams will be LONG gone by 28 imo. Outside of King, is the best Ruck/FWD in the draft.

Looks good on paper but I reckon it will be very hard to get a game at Richmond in 2019, like it was 2018. There's a lot of talent on our list that will get little or no senior games. And I reckon with 1) disappointment at no senior games and 2)salary cap pressure at end of 2019. It might be worth holding on to 2019 good draft picks.

I would take Valente ahead of Smith at our first pick but I cannot see Valente getting there. Smith versus Stocker is an interesting one if both are available first pick. Ideally RFC would want both. Stocker better disposal but gee I like the way Smith goes about it and arguably more upside untapped. Just trying to think who could be more effective in the Dusty/Cotch/Prestia mix and probably leaning towards Smith even though Stocker arguably more rounded. Like to see more vision of Smith but hoping there is more potential there with the right development. Smith reminds me a bit of a couple of ex AFL players at another club one of which was a real star with Smith's bullocking style.

This is the sort of scenario BF was designed for.

P.S. I love it

Dees would knock us back i think.Their next is 54ish.
The club i'd be targeting with that deal is the Suns.
Truck load of picks in the 1st rnd.Even offer up our later picks that we won't use.

Friday starts off with West Coast's end of first pick not Adelaides beginning of second pick. Very interesting if we really want to jump the cue.

We could for example get involved in a multi club trade with West Coast and say Gold Coast, trade out our 2019 1st, for pick 20 , West Coast might want a Gold Coast second rounder as well, West Coast might want to go back slightly in the draft especially if they are not interested in who we are chasing and want extra pick value. RFC could also chase GWS second rounder in 25 as well and give them back 37 for them to get Briggs etc.. before another club puts the trigger on them forcing there hand,

Based on what we need and what we rarely, rarely ever have (an inside beast), Ely Smith does look like the player we should be taking.

Yes, Stocker would be a decent pickup. But is perhaps a tad vanilla and hasn't had any time at the National Championships to see how he stacks up against the absolute best.

Smith, on the other hand, got one game and dominated, and tested amazingly at the combine.

Now, I know 17 might be a stretch for Smith, just, but based on our midfield needs, I would love an explosive inside midfielder like him. He looks completely ready for AFL too and, since we're in our window, it'll be a recruit for now as well as for the future.

At pick 17, a player who will otherwise likely fall between 25 and 35 is not a stretch/reach. And, again based on our needs, wouldn't you prefer him over Taylor, who otherwise might be "best available" at pick 17? Would almost be Lennon v Cripps all over again (taking the talented flanker versus the inside behemoth).

Anyway, not saying Smith is Cripps, but it's the kind of player we desperately need. Grab him and then another midfielder at 37.

I hope it's us that invited him to the combine.

Elite runners?
Like it or not its where the game is going and the more the better I say. Whose to say he doesnt turn into the Next Tom Scully?
Thinking McHenry is more small forward than mid. I like the idea of selecting a genuine mid with our first as our small forward stocks are pretty good.
I know a lot of posters think McHenry is capable of playing midfield but I’m not sure he has the same runs on the board as Higgins as a junior in that regard

Maybe Suns do both deals with the SA Clubs for pics 2 and 3 (Lukosius and Rankine both possible flight risks) and end up with a clutch of first rounders this year and next.

GC 2018 - 5,6,11 and 13 (King twins 5+6 ?) and
2019 - Pick 1 and Adel 1st and Port 1st.

Wowwee rebuild.
If GC did that we'd be foolish not to take our 2019 1st for their 2 2nd rounders...... they'll have enough picks for this draft, and then a nice hand of top end picks for next year.....

Well I think Smith gives us a bit more flexibility in terms of balance in theory. If Edwards, Higgins, Graham, let alone Prestia and we can throw in Weller in that boat if he is coming to, Lambert as well, goes in the middle with Smith more bases would seem to be covered in the clearance dynamic rather than Stocker simply because as a group the player combo could be too much if a like for like with Stocker, Same would go for someone like Valente versus Stocker.

Seriously what is the point of holding the draft over two days for only about 70 picks.
Thursday night for round 1 and then friday morning for the rest when everyone is at work/school, how ****ing stupid.
No point making a song and dance about a draft 95% of people have no idea who these kids are.

Just hold it on one night then people can go to their clubs website to learn about their new recruits which is what 95% would do.

GCS would be crazy to do that deal when its well known that Luko and Rankine would both be #1 picks outright in previous drafts such is their talent. Why do the deal and get lesser players in the future draft?

GCS are better off taking Lukosius @ 2, Rankine @ 3 and they are every chance at getting Rozee @ 6. That's 3 SA boys who are very good mates - reducing the "flight risk" argument. Then back Stewie Dew and Mark Evans to improve things internally.

EDIT: Having said that, the rumours are getting stronger that Carlton are going to take Rankine with pick #1.
