Not liking all these links to McHenry/Hill. Has to be a mid, Stocker/O,Halloran/ Duursma etc. unless we do the trade for 2 picks in the 20’s. Then I’m ok with McHenry and a mid
Could we be using Hill as a means to get a trade with WCE for thier 2 x 20's picks? They may want Hill & there will be no go home factor there.

Must say the thought of having hill join and Rioli transition to the midfield and Bolton on a wing really excites me then the added thought of Maurice jnr joining the club as bwuce would say delicious
Bolton doesn't have the tank to play fwd pocket atm let along Wing etc :(

Best result would be trading our 2019 first and something for dees 2 picks in 20s

Go to draft with 17/24/28/37

17 stocker/hill
24 McHenry
28 bailey Williams
37 Ely smith

Our first get a good inside mid or a class player who was touted to go much higher but had injuries and who could be anything

Our second pick get the solid Richmond player basically Jack Higgins quality tackler can play forward or midfield goes for a 30km run because he’s bored

3rd pick big ruck/kpf 198cm great hands and leap also super fast came 6th overall at combine for 20m sprint

4th pick Ely smith everyone on the board loves him some more then others

This would be the perfect draft if we could pull it off
The way the pts work out 37 would have to go as well as 17, future 1st an option, then we can trade '20 1st for Hopper to avoid having to use it on MRjr

Would be wrapt with Ely Smith. The top 12-15 names look locked in, just the order that’s up in the air. It has to be a team with a pick between 15-20 that’s looking at him, hence the draft invite
Funny feeling crows are seeking somekind of revenge on us and take him @16.

No idea why but Ely screams of a player Geelong would pick.

What about Friday? I believe the rest of the draft it starts at 12pm? So dumb, most people work. Can we stream it through the AFL Website?
AFL are lucky the Pies draft picks fall on a Friday.

I think the first pick will be read out on Fox Footy at 7pm tomorrow night.

Well given the "fans" they consult on rule changes are in Offices they can just check it up online. FWIW Whateley finishes his SEN shift at 12, he seems to be the only fan they spk to....

Based on what we need and what we rarely, rarely ever have (an inside beast), Ely Smith does look like the player we should be taking.

Yes, Stocker would be a decent pickup. But is perhaps a tad vanilla and hasn't had any time at the National Championships to see how he stacks up against the absolute best.

Smith, on the other hand, got one game and dominated, and tested amazingly at the combine.

Now, I know 17 might be a stretch for Smith, just, but based on our midfield needs, I would love an explosive inside midfielder like him. He looks completely ready for AFL too and, since we're in our window, it'll be a recruit for now as well as for the future.

At pick 17, a player who will otherwise likely fall between 25 and 35 is not a stretch/reach. And, again based on our needs, wouldn't you prefer him over Taylor, who otherwise might be "best available" at pick 17? Would almost be Lennon v Cripps all over again (taking the talented flanker versus the inside behemoth).

Anyway, not saying Smith is Cripps, but it's the kind of player we desperately need. Grab him and then another midfielder at 37.

I hope it's us that invited him to the combine.
I’m on the bandwagon too, especially when you consider that once bids have been factored in our pick could well be 20-22.

In saying that I know next to nothing other than watching a few highlight tapes so I’m not going to jump up and down either way

Yeah, though does it really push our pick back? Those academy kids were going to be unavailable to us anyway.

We'll be choosing the 17th rated kid outside the academy/father-son kids, in other words, so our pick isn't really changing at all, it's still 17.

Could there be blackmail involved?!

Give us your 2x 20s picks or we're taking Hill at 17...
Could be trying the same thing with Brisbane with Taylor as well?

I have this theory because Hill/Taylor are linked to us but they don't fill any list needs...

That bully bloke on pre is super against Ely smith reckons he’s a bush footballer who handballs too much and turn over merchant reckons 3rd rounder at best
Trelol will soon mock him for handballing too much like the Brownlow Medallist Tom Mitchell
Gee, getting a little worried about this 2011/2012 Gold Coast boys club we are recruiting, Prestia, Caddy, Lynch and now Weller. :drunk::eek::think::D
+ McQualter

(damn multi reply...oh well, might as well leave the first one in there)

Yeah I get what you mean, it’s all just semantics really. Technically our pick does get pushed back but doesn’t change which kids are available to us at our first pick.

People keep thinking the game is changing its not.

they ALL run further they all run faster and generally they are all bigger and stronger. If your TOO slow or Dont have a motor you struggle in the modern game Have enough of both and you succeed.

The best mids in the comp remain those who just cant be stopped win their own ball are good with ball in hand an win clearances. They dont neccesarily have blistering pace or massive motors they just have enough of both.
At a glance the best two mids at each club this yr. Not a lot of them have blistering pace or Massive motors but they have enough of both to succeed.

Crouch/sloane, Beams/Witherden, Cripps /Curnow, Sidebottom/Pendulbury, Heppell/ Merret , Fyfe,Neale, Selwood/Dangerfield, Miller/Lyons, Coniglio/Ward,
Mitchell/Shiels, Oliver/Brayshaw, Cunnington/Higgins, Wines/Gray, Ross/Steven, Kennedy/Parker, Yeo/Shuey, Macrae/Bontompelli.

We lack for two types of mid but the most important lack is a big bodied contested /clearance winning player who has adequate pace /Motor.

The likely best players available to us in this draft with our first pick will be exactly this type it is an opportunity to address this need and imo we should do it.

Nice post

I think an argument for us getting Smith is Powell-Pepper.

Considered in a similar vein to Ely Smith and was considered similar draft range. Powell-Pepper would have an immediate impact for Richmond I'd reckon, so I think Smith is that kinda player we need.

And we got rid of the one that we actually drafted ourselves
