OK. So who does he tip out from the senior side? He’ll compete with Castagna IMO. Who in my view is physically superior to Bolton for that role.

He’s not a mid. So who goes out for him to push his price up? Don’t see it.
I think he does take castagna's place. He might be more physical, but he doesnt have any class that Bolton does.

Agree Bolton has the class. Can Bolton apply the defensive pressure and then do the rest? I look at Dan Rioli who can not only do the defensive shit all day but then punish offensively when its his turn. That’s what I reckon Bolton needs to get to to push Castagna out of the side because Castagna’s defensive game is pretty decent.

Yep agree, hopefully Dan shows him the way.

Bolton plays better as a mid than he does as a forward

Reckon Bolton is a wingman so he’d be competing against Ellis/kmac/grigg

How. No tank
Well he is still only 19, but at VFL level he stayed much more involved in the game as a midfielder/HBF later in the season until he got injured
He's evasive in tight, explosive out of packs and once in space has good skills
I hope he puts in a good preseason to help build his stamina so we can start to see more of it

He has a 12 month contract, but given the club wanted to sign him for longer, I would suggest that's not the time frame the club are thinking about for him to have a break out season. The kid is clearly backing himself to perform though by taking a shorter term

Who said we wanted him longer? This is bullshit pro Bolton nonsense

I'm pretty confident we will get a decent slider at #17. This shows the picks afterwards, leading up to our #37.
Melbourne shouldn't want any more grunt inside strength. Bulldogs might go for a tall at #32 after getting Father-son West?
Possibly Essendon, Brisbane & St Kilda directly before us are the biggest threat to picking an inside mid such as Ely Smith or Jack Bytel.
Although I think Brisbane will take Berry at 35.

Pick 17: Richmond
Pick 18: Brisbane
Pick 19: GWS
Pick 20: West Coast
Pick 21: Adelaide
Pick 22: West Coast
Pick 23: Melbourne

Pick 27: Bulldogs Used for points

I’m hoping he nails a small forward role in 2019, he has all the tools to be a regular 22. If that happens I reckon we’ll see Rioli play further upfield.

Still for me pick 17 is best availability always players will slip like Higgo last year and we pounced. There will be a few this year.
I’m thinking this year we could specifically target the best mid with our first.

I generally agree with the “best available”, however we are in the premiership window next year and possibly the following 2 or 3 so we need players capable of having an immediate impact.

Stating the obvious but our list is 2 or 3 genuine mids Short of where it needs to be

Interested in everyones thoughts on if Bailey Williams is available at our 2nd pick #37 should we pick him up? 198cm 98kg Forward/Ruck, I personally don't think he will be available at that pick but you never know with players such as Hayes sliding last year. Would be best available easily at that pick.

I haven't followed the draft much, but imo I wold be okay with it depending on who we picked up with our pick 17. If we drafted an inside mid at 17 and confident he's going to be a good player, then I would be okay to go for a forward/ruck at pick 37 providing there isn't another quality inside mid there and he's best available.

I think this guy might be on quiet a few clubs radars, particularly clubs with early 2nd rounders looking to boost their ruck/kpf stocks

I reckon we'll be going in best available - the sliders.

Probably a focus on mids, especially if they can do contested ball. But I don't reckon the club is so stuck on the inside mid as this board.

IF Jack Graham starts to get more ball he'll be awesome, and Higgins looks like a high quality all round mid to me. If Bolton can take his VFL midfield class to the AFL then our depth in quality just got so much better. Towno is also a decent midfielder. The need to try and fix a perceived problem in the draft is overstated IMHO. But we do need more midfield depth - just whatever the quality is we take that.
