If we get McHenry, we obviously have plans to move Higins/Rioli into midfield. I don't know how I feel about Rioli in the middle with his tank. I'd expect he would be more forward with stints in the middle.
It would make sense to trade 17 to mid 20's to get McHenry with something back in return.

One of Riolis biggest assets is his tank.
Hence why he was drafted so high.

Interesting that Ely Smith averaged a whopping 9.0 clearances.

Next best was...

Valente 5.5
Hately 5.5
B Smith 5.3
Stack 5.0
Foley 4.7
Walsh 4.5

Huge outlier there with Ely.... I think a team is going to get a bargain with him.

McHenry averaged 10.8 tackles per game - Dimma would love him.

I'm a big fan of Ely and he looks like the perfect fit for us. But he didn’t average 9 clearances because he only played 1 game in the champs and in that game he got 9 clearances. He did get 30 touches that game and the only other player to get 30 or more touches in a game during the champs was…Sam Walsh.

IMO its shit having the draft spread over 2 nights.

With the draft split over 2 nights we seriously have time to prepare and implement, if other clubs willing, a trade for our 2019 1st for a couple in the 20's.

After 1st round does that mean after pick 19 or after, atm, the GWS pick which will at least be 21 with matchings and maybe even later?

If we do not trade late in the 1st round for Brisbane an/or GWS picks, ignoring other possible trades, it really leaves us with West Coast, Melbourne and Gold Coast with multiple picks in the twenty's to trade into possibly.

Really depends on what constitutes end of first round allowing for matchings?

Gut feel. Just doesn’t seem like a fair swap.

Draft points seem to back it up too.
Pick 17 - 1025 points
Pick 21 - 878 points
Pick 25 - 756
Pick 30 - 629
Even two picks in the early to mid 30s are worth more than pick 17 points-wise.

Its interesting because our pick 17 will probably end up being pick 21 with matchings so matchings cost us 140-150 points.

Does that mean a club like Collingwood trading back to get more picks for points lose the points value because of the picks due to matchings beforehand pushing the picks further down the order?

Just a thought, we are all banging on about pure inside mids being a need, but our club doesnt play one dimensional mids so maybe we will pick a left fielder again.
Prepare yourself to hear Ed McHenry or Curtis Taylor being called out.
