Mav Weller big bodied inside mid - seriously ?? 182cm 85kgs Shane Edwards 182cm 81kgs Jack Graham 181cm 81kgs
Weller is the perfect example of a reject you dont touch
Happy to see the majority agree Weller is shit..... Because he is.

Yes, he's a big body..... But a big body who is shit.

Just finished reading bios and watching highlights of Matt Crouch in his draft year and Eli Smith and my god they’re similar, only difference is Smith is bigger and more athletic. Looks like he’s right to go R1 if he puts in the work preseason and could be exactly what we want!

I think some are being unfair. No idea on the validity of this but I was impressed on how he developed at the Saints and, if body was right I, for one, would have Weller in as a rookie any day

We're gonna need someone to play the Miles role and protect the kids in the reserves. It's not a terrible idea

Not sure what the thought is behind this, apart from the obvious, but I think he could be a bit better than that for us in contention. Hopefully thats the carrot for him to come if the club feel he has earned it.

It's funny Mav Weller gets mentioned and people seem to think he'll be lining up round 1 in the centre replacing Cotchin. Weller is a ready to go depth replacement for when injuries hit. He'd effectively be the 44th player to be put on the list, if we even pick him up. Lets not forget we just moved on Conca Miles Ellis Lloyd who were all players with 4 plus years in the system, anyone expecting us to replace them with nothing more than 18 year old kids is in for a shock. Weller in & Townsend back, hopefully into the middle again, gives our VFL side some size to help protect the kids that we do bring in and as I said if the need arises we can call on them as ready made replacements to step in for a few games when guys are sore or need break

I think some need to get some perspective. Unless Cotchin is injured Weller is not replacing Cotchin, and even then it would be debatable in terms of like for like. If Weller replaces a fit and firing Cotchin some serious explanations will need to be made otherwise most know we will come under investigation and some will be asking what boost juice are we, or the player, using!!!

Somethings to consider when thinking about live trading during the draft.

Collingwood & Essendon are not allowed to trade any 2019 picks in the draft this week because they traded out their 2019 first round picks during trade period

Adelaide, Carlton, Fremantle, Gold Coast, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs are not allowed to trade 2019 first round draft picks at the draft unless they replace the 2019 picks that they traded away in the trade period.

Brisbane, Geelong, GWS Giants, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Richmond, Sydney and West Coast — can trade their future first-rounders away, as they still hold a full allotment of 2019 selections (future second, third, fourth and fifth).

Could be huge, could be nothing.

Still need to strike a deal which won't be easy..... And that's assuming we want to do a deal to begin with.

Could be interesting if not much trading for picks goes first round then second round starts next day.

Adelaide might then have first pick in second round. They might want a 2019 first rounder back by then. So might Gold Coast. At least clubs have a bit of time overnight before the second round to have a think about it. The other thing is the might want to back into the first round 2019 at the back end of the 2018 draft once a lot of what they wanted might be gone. Both of these clubs with three picks beforehand technically have already used 3 draft picks and may not feel compelled to use more. Gold Coast might be more inclined to take the 2019 first rounder while Adelaide might prefer a later pick combination given they might want to get as much SA talent as possible this draft. RFC could in theory, get involved in a 3 way trade deal with Adelaide and Gold Coast just from the second round first pick. At the beginning of second round RFC might trade out our 2019 first to Gold Coast if thats what they want, RFC gets Adelaides first pick at start of second round plus extras and Adelaide might want one of Gold Coasts later second round picks given all the SA talent about plus another pick combo involving the Gold Coast second round picks plus off cuts/sweetners pick wise between the clubs. GWS are another club already had 3 draft picks, if no changes, by second round, do they really want there 25 pick or do they want points later to get Briggs the ruckman. Could RFC do a trade with GWS, give them later points to use on Briggs with 37 and something back for them for giving up 25?

Melbourne and West Coast could do a few different things to since they are closer to contention and probably looking for players in terms of fit rather than pure best available.

In theory, the phantom for the second round, after the first round, should be easier initially if not necessarily by specific pick-by-pick order. This is because there is only so much talent about and we know who has already gone in the first round by each club especially in terms of the needs clubs might need to meet. Also the possibility of trade pick deals in the second round might be enhanced by the fact the individual club risk over these later picks are reduced because at this stage, in theory, clubs are not trading for relative sheep stations and the range of outcomes should have narrowed. For example if RFC trades for Adelaides first pick in the second round they should know who they can get then and who they want!!!

Here is something I just come up with in terms of ballpark pick trades. End of first round, overnight, second round next day, no trades for picks in first round, status quo, Adelaide first pick in second round. RFC trades to Adelaide the RFC 2019 1st round for Adelaides first pick in second round(2018) plus Adelaides future 2019 third round(assuming they still have it). RFC then trades pick 37 for GWS 25 in 2018 as well as giving GWS the Adelaide future 2019 third round on traded. So RFC ultimately give up 2019 first round and their 2018 second round for Adelaides first pick in second round and GWS's first pick in second round both in 2018

Agree.Battering ram instead of one of our kids.

Interesting that Ely Smith averaged a whopping 9.0 clearances.

Next best was...

Valente 5.5
Hately 5.5
B Smith 5.3
Stack 5.0
Foley 4.7
Walsh 4.5

Huge outlier there with Ely.... I think a team is going to get a bargain with him.

McHenry averaged 10.8 tackles per game - Dimma would love him.
Think it was only 1 game.

I see the sense in it absolutely, but I'd like to think there's better options available. Give me Barlow any day of the week over Weller.

the rookie draft is now straight after the main draft, so players cant do the whole pre-season training to impress clubs any more.

edit: there is now this supplementary selection for ex players ie mummy, so he could be selected in that.
Edit: this second path is only for players who have benn out of the game for 12 mths or more, so Chol isnt eligible.
