For mine, Lukosius and O'Reilly are small for KPF at 193cm; despite the bluster about players getting smaller, this year's draft seemed to reconfirm that KP prospects need to be 195cm+ to be rated by recruiters, or they need to be able to play different positions or have outstanding speed (which I don't think either have). Lukosius is also quite inconsistent at this stage; I feel he has games where he kills it and others where he is quiet. He seems more consistent when played at half back, and I can see him spending a bit of time there next season. Blakey (NM f/s) is maybe also in this conversation with good TAC results; his kicking at times though had been a mixed bag.

I also expect Max King to play more ruck next year; whilst he has good hands and leap he doesn't seem particularly fast and at 204cm he is probably more suited there, pinch hitting down forward. I can see Ben King catching him up a bit next year as a more permanent Key defender.

All in all I see these guys in the 12-25 range.

I think Rankine and Hill are at this stage (and will stay) top 5. There is also Joyce and Carter from WA who I believe will make a dash to Top 15 if not Top 7. Carter was hidden through injury but he looks to be that multi-dimensioned package that teams rate at the pointy end of the year. Walsh, Bytel, Rozee also to round out a good year for mids! :p

Surely Lukosios and Oreilly haven’t finished growing yet. Could end up 195+

He's restricted FA at the end of next season isn't he?
He is contracted until the end of 2019 and he isn't a free agent then.

I think he is eligible for free agency at the end of the 2021 season

I'd be very surprised if O'Reilly is only 193cm - I'd guess he'd be 195cm already. I'd imagine they are all still growing.

IMO the big difference between Lukosius/O'Reilly and the KPF prospects from the past two years is they have a real presence inside 50 like all the best AFL forwards do - and it forces the opposition to worry about them continuously. You won't see it on a stats sheet and you won't see it on highlight reels but watching them live you can just see every time they are inside 50 how much the opposition worries about them. It's the reason I was so keen on Darcy Fogarty as well, even though he's a bit too short for a genuine KPF. I haven't seen the King brothers live so can't comment on them.

I could see O'Reilly being the forward version of Naughton - who bolts up the draft order next year (he's not even on top 30 radar for most people yet). He played 2 League games as a bottom ager and kicked 2 and 1 goals in each (to go with his 46 goals from 17 games @ Colts). That's pretty impressive. There are question marks on his athletic profile like all talls but he'll no doubt be working to improve that next year and at least he starts with a great football brain. I'm hoping he doesn't have to ruck as much next year so we can see what he can do as a full time KPF. If the AFL were to allow us to use F/S it would be a dream outcome imo.

Surely the AFLPA will force further change to the FA rules before then though ie. 6 years of service instead of 8 has been floated as one of 3 possible outcomes?

Nope. The current collective bargaining agreement runs until 2022.

Annex D, 1.1 (ii) says that they need eight years on the club list before qualifying.

Has anyone seen much of him? Is he likely to go in the draft?
At this point and considering the rest of the pool, lateish.
Too hard to call where he will end up this early, players who have outstanding underage years don't tend to fall out of the first couple rounds but players who don't have strong underage years can go on to star in their draft year and get picked high.
There is definite potential for him to have a great year at colts, maybe some senior game and then get into the 2nd round.

This is his colts stats from the last two years. Seems he has games where he stands out in one/two areas but hasn't really put all together in one performance. Remember these are his underage stats, next season is the main season that counts.

It'll be a best available approach in 2018. Could do with a tall defender developing in the background, and while we topped up with some high quality midfield talent this draft, it did come at the cost of Weller, and with Mundy soon to depart, I'd like to see us take another A grade runner with our first rounder this year.

We like to take talls where we can get value, so you'd expect us to look for the best available early (erring small), pick up a tall def/fwd where we can and then match any bids on Carter.

We still need a gun spearhead, but with Darcy as our ruck we've got Cox/Dixon/Apeness/Strnadica/Taberner/Jones/Meek as possible options, with Sandi as a freebie until he retires. That's enough tall talent unless someone irresistible puts their hand up at our pick next draft.

For me, the next draft is about consolidating the depth of our running brigade while picking up some niche talls if they're available.

Top 10 pick , there’s a few before him . Reckon Freo are a red hot chance to link up the Hills. Will challenge the Pearce’s soon.
Him and Carter next year will do nicely.

Got a feeling that Reilly will be top 10. I can really see him going to us depending on our pick.

I just think Freo need that gun KPF and we are all set. One that can kick 60 goals a season. Or do we realy o Tabs to kick 30 and hope we find a 30-35 goal a season ruck forward on our list?
