List Mgmt. 2018 draft

Maybe next year we trade our 2019 first round for a few mid table picks - kind of like what the slime did his year. Interesting to see how it plays out. Of course, there could be a bombshell ala Weller that means we get back into those middle rounds that way. Hope not though.

My guess is that we'll use our first, Get a F/A, Academy. Not sure besides that but that will be 4 1st round quality picks in 2 years + the F/A.

If I was to guess:

Ballantyne, Spurr, Sandliands, Sutcliffe, Pearce and Apeness delisted next year (If the Ape doesn't start heading in the right direction). ? over Mundy too

Suban is in big trouble now and could be gone before the season starts.

Does anyone have a list of 2018 picks that other clubs have?

Does GC/GWS for instance have numerous seconds that they'd take a 2019 first round for? I think this is the one to trade out of...Our list will be chock full of 21-28 year olds

If we take two mids this draft, and perhaps a small forward (Miers?), and maybe a project ruck, we have Carter coming through and guaranteed in 2018....we have most areas covered

I'd say if we could get two seconds our draft next year might look this:

1st round: Best KPF/Hill?
2nd round: Best Ruck/Ruck forward?
2nd Round: Carter

I've just seen highlights of Izak Rankine. Kid moves like SPS, absolute top notch evasiveness and skills.

I've seen Lukosious highlights too.

Then there's the King twins before we get to Ian Hill.

Our 2018 first is important especially if it's another top 5.

If you get a chance check out Rankine highlights. I'd use pick 2 on him from this year even if he sat out for a year. Close to the most impressive junior I've ever seen highlights of. GUN.

Well, if we nail the draft this year we will be looking good. Game plan, player chemistry and a dose of good luck at the right time...BOOM!! Baby we would be a bunch of happy drunks Oct 2018. Right now, praying Ross Lyon is busy working on his game plan and the players (inc the eventual Freo draftees) are enjoying themselves and come back ready to work their arse off. Thats all we can ask for. And, for Bennell and Tabbener to come back ready to destroy all their haters

Rankine is faster and kicks more goals, seriously good player. Most draft experts say if he was draft eligible this year he'd go number 1

Sandilands
D. Pearce
Johnson
Spurr
Ballantyne
Mundy
Sheridan?
Surcliffe?

Hopefully (not holding my breath) Sutcliffe and Sheridan show enough form to either be kept or be worth 3rd, 4th round picks or player swap.

We can also upgrade Nhyhuis, Duman and/ or Strnadica to main list. We can collect a DFA or RFA (ie Fasolo) and then we go to the draft with 4-5 picks.

Based on this I think offering 1-yr contract to Suban is a mistake as we will just end up adding him to that list above. As such I would look at DFA like Mullett, Ramsay or Schoenfeld (if not recontracted by GCS) on a two year contract.

We need the next batch of footsoldier to at least get Freo some third rd pick for NGA , adding DFA won't do that , at least going to Draft you get a 50/50 chance of a Luke Ryan or Neale and had some resell value if they turn out to be average good.Mullett and Ramsey if they fail they will be like Suban or Sheriden no resell value .

I can't remember being more impressed by an u17. Rankine is amazing.

I don't want pick 1 next year because we would take Lukosius (KPF and all) and then be stuck wondering why we didn't take Rankine. I think he will be a generational player. That said Lukosius seems to have enough talent to be one as well.

I only think of next year as a super draft because of the likely top 10. I have no idea about the depth or anything. The top 3 are outstanding and then there is Rozee & Hill among a handful of others. So glad we kept our 2018 1st. I hope it is a top 3 pick (separating it from performance) but would really like us to play well next year too.

We can't unfortunately draft every potential champ. There are way too many unknowns in drafting. I rather we start our move upwards.

With picks 2 & 5, we must draft at least one from WA or SA(these boys tend to stay for extended period unlike the Victorians). Can't have two Victorians running home to mummy after 2-3 yrs.
We have had a bad run with Victorians going home entering or at their peak ie Jeff White, Robbie Warnock, Adam McPhee, Heath Black(both McPhee & Black did come back but the best part of their careers was in Victoria), Jess Sinclair.

I think we will...IF we get a stellar run with injuries. If it hits us like the last two seasons we are no chance of going up. We have zero depth.

Man I'd have loved WCE 1st because GC would've put a little bit more on top of that deal too. Even GC future 1st, but they were never giving that up.

I could handle a top 3 pick if we play youth from the get go and only manage 6 or so wins. But would rather play the youth anyway and start moving forwards.

Playing the youth and moving forwards is ideal, but also unlikely I think. I reckon like this year sans a couple of the 100pt beltings would be acceptable as long as we roll out kids when possible.

Add Apeness to that list if his body does not hold up, maybe Grey as well. That is possibly 10 players who could be gone next before we look at anyone who doesn't perform or anyone who chooses to move so I agree we shouldn't get Suban.

Yes and No. Ramsay has been injured and if he gets over that will be a good player. If he passed a medical I would sign him.
Mullett I would consider as a rookie, and Shoenfield just does not appear good enough to me.

I agree you should chase A and B graders when you are rebuilding, but they can come from any where be it mature ages, DFA's, draft etc.

Ramsey - that is a big if consider how Apeness, even deluca,Grey ,and Bennell can't even train properly in pre season this year .
Mullet - if he is 22 or 23 I will take him not 25. I would rather take banfield or Zac Langdon or some VFL players like Barlow ,north cut him for a reason .
Shoenfield- let see what Dew decide about him before even said he is not good enough.

I want resell value players , not Mullet kind that come in one or two matches and get delisted like Collins . Cox , Luke Ryan type all can get you at least second rd pick if they continue to progress.

When you are drafting 8 to 10 players a year you need to think out of the box. I think Ramsay has a future and as a DFA he a very low risk, especially on a 1 year contract.

I think we need to consider any of the options available to us so that we can improve our list. I also believe we need to look at Irish players and\or former AFL juniors who have chosen other sports (Keith and Greenwood). These are both Cat B and both have been relatively successful.

That is what Ross and Fyfe suppose to do with international rule coming to perth identify talent .

Hey guys, I’ve heard some whispers Freo are interested in Mitch Crowden from Sturt with ~#60, 175cm 88kg inside mid, played League footy for the Double Blues this year and tested well at the State Combine

When I watch him play I think of a chicken nugget winning the ball.

Like Jack Viney

I'd be fine with that. Slightly concerned he'd become another Suban as he'd get found out trying to break tackles in congestion like he does but the handball machine seems to have pretty good vision, and his kicking when he finds some space looks fine imo. Think he'd develop really well alongside Lachie Neale (who was taken with #58 ;)).

Mitch Crowden tested very well at the SA State combine:
1st 20m sprint - 2.92secs
1st Standing vertical jump - 81cm
2nd running vertical jump R - 91cm
2nd running vertical jump L - 89cm
5th Agility - 8.26secs
4th YoYo - 21.3

Knows how to find the pill averaging around 21 possessions in the U18’s Carnival and played league footy.

Not a bad option for pick 60.
