Did the FFA pull the trigger on Arnold too quickly?

I know BVM indicated he only wanted to do the World Cup, but the way he's turned this side around has been pretty impressive, especially his willingness to play Arzani despite his age and experience. I'm not even sure Ang would be playing him.

I would of thought we could make him a pretty sizable offer to stay and coach the Asian Cup defense. I really like him and his tactical style.

Problem is that the result is probably the same as we would have had under Ange and that’s all that matters. It doesn’t matter that we looked like dominating teams by possession under Ange and could not score because we had no striker of world class standard. The same has been true with a new coach and a more balanced style under Bert.

I don’t criticise either coach, the fact is that we don’t have a starting striker and Nabbout, Juric and MacClaren are decent second string players but are not at the Sainsbury level as a striker (if that makes sense).

It’s a pity we don’t have an Aloisi, Viduka, Kewell or even Agostino available to select. Each would have been more likely to score today.

What a great game that was last night. Very happy to be proven wrong about BMV, he is a fantastic manager. His tactics are spot on and play to our attack's biggest strength getting in behind teams. Yeah we got very lucky with the penalty but it balanced out after the France game. Unless Cahill is absolutely finished and is just there as a token jesture surely he comes on in the next game. Juric and Nabbout aren't that great he has to come on for one of them if he physically can't start games.

No it wouldn't.

We absolutely leaked goals against the likes Syria, Saudi Arabia and Thailand.

Ang was set in stone on the 3 at the back, we conceded chances for fun. Absolutely shit truck Asian sides absolutely tore us to pieces on the counter, game after game over the last 2 years.

We are chalk and cheese defensively under BVM, we've conceded 3 clear cut chances in 2 games against France and Denmark in a European based World Cup.

We'd have lost both of these games 3-0+ under Ang.

I understand what Ange was doing, and with a better squad we wouldn't even be having this question and he'd probably be PM by now, but I do think we were on a road to ruin at the current trajectory

What Bertie the Beetle has done with our backline is great. He's turned Sainsbury - who I thought was an out-and-out peanut not even a year ago, into a solid defender

Jeez we were stiff last night. Once we got the goal Denmark seemed to panic, before that I thought they were composed and basically read us like a children's picture book

Noticed a few across BigFooty have been wondering why Cahill wasn't on for the magical headed goal in the last minute. I don't think he can see out 5 minutes of a match, let alone a decent chunk of it. If Millwall wasn't particularly eager to give him an extended run then I doubt we would be

Makes you wonder if he's in the team on merit or to have one last shot in the last group game at chasing membership of the famous I-scored-in-four-World-Cups club.

I genuinely expect France to kill Denmark. They will most likely rest players, and the substitutes will want to make a point. I also think they'd want to get some momentum going considering they haven't been that great yet.

We will have it all to do against Peru. I'm sure they'll want to savour something from the tournament. But I'm confident at the moment that we can go through still.

The dukes didn't score at a World Cup leave him out of the equation

This is pretty accurate.

We are horrible at the final ball.

Juric made us static in attack and slowed everything down, his decision making was also poor.

Cahill may have been a better option but in reality he is cooked and I don't think he has the legs in him to harass defenders.

Kruse must be banished. For good.

----

I think if that penalty was called against us too we'd all be outraged. It was incredible soft and very, very lucky that it went in our favour.
Yep,

It's all well and good to come on and score against a 5"5 Thai central defender, the Danish defenders are pretty strong, Christensen and Kjaer would of had no trouble with a 38 year old Cahill.

He's good in the air, but has offered nothing at ground level for about 5-6 years now.

Jesus christ.

Pretty much every Euro publication has Eriksen as MOTM, according to the BBC "Christian Eriksen scored a fine goal and was involved in many of Denmark's best moves during an eye-catching display".

He was absolutely invisible for 99% of the match.

They had Rogic as our best?

Leckie was by and away the best player on that pitch yesterday.

Good to see Aussie rules is playing a part in our games. The only way we score is through "hand ball" :). On a serious note only watch soccer every World Cup when the Aussie's play really do not know much about the game but they look like they are having a real RED HOT go just need to learn how to put the ball in the net more.

I saw that Eriksen had 55 touches of the ball and Leckie 54. I was really quite suprised by that.

Mark Van Bommell is replacing Cocu as the PSV manager after the World Cup. PSV will be going to the Champions League as they won the Eredevisie

BVM confirmed as his assistant, swapping current roles.

I dare say Arzani would be pretty high on their shopping list after seeing him first hand.

I think someone had it right last night when they said we would be better playing with 10 men. Luongo if Arzani cannot go for a whole game.... someone, anyone other than this waste of space. It was painful to watch, and at times I reckon he even looked like he wondered what he was doing out there.

Samesies - add me to the club who thought he was invisible after the first 20 minutes.

And Rogic our best!?!

It was a fine performance last night but it feels like ever since Adam was a boy we have had good keepers, CB's and DMs - a couple of speedy wing backs but generally have dogshit strikers and attacking midfielders. Cahill appears to have been a once a century poacher for us and he is basically a walking corpse these days.

I was sad watching him, he could have been something before the injuries.

But you are right, his possesion map consisted of slowing down our ball movement which wasnt great.

He had opportunities to attack the game and instead turned backwards and dinked it back to Behich.

Scrap what I said about the possibility of France playing soft against Denmark now that any result gets them through.

Top seed in our group gets Iceland. Second seed gets a red hot Croatia. France have got this.

he hussles off the ball and can't fault his effort here. his pressing is good.

unfortunately, has the touch of a rapist on the ball

I do wish you would change the sentiment of what touch he has, but yes his effort and pressing is good but the fundamental component of the game (control and what to do with the ball at your feet) is something he lacks and he has shown it consistently.

However hes definitely in our best 23 players which goes to show you how far we have to go to develop depth.
