No we were not embarrassed.

Denmark are shit compared to Holland Spain and Chile.

How we play is important. We have won two dead rubbers to Hungary and Czechia and got a point from Denmark.

They are the only things to hang hats on.

Our football style has reverted back to a back 4. More stable but ejecting our possession style philosophy that Ange implemented.

If Australia is going to chop and change coaches and styles every 4 years or so then we need to be getting results on a short term basis. Not qualifying for the round of 16 is not worth abandoning our playing philosophy for.

We are playing a style that suits us, rather than 1 that suits Ange.

Not even his best goal for Leeds.

Kewell's top drawer was as good as anyone going around at the time. Sadly injuries and ensuing loss of confidence derailed him
It's always humorous that people put Cahill in the Viduka/Kewell bracket. He isn't even close.

It's because most of those people would've mostly seen the three of them play for the International team, rather than club level.

Hard to argue that Viduka/Kewell outperformed Cahill for Australia, but they're comfortably ahead for both club and ability

We conceded 3 goals a game, yes we were. Ang has the worst WC record of any Australian manager, that is a fact.

Denmark smashed Ireland 5-1 and Poland 4-0 in qualifying for the world cup and split the points with Germany.

They beat Mexico 2-0 in their lead up match.

They are 12th in the world for a reason and higher rated than 2 of those 3 you mentioned were at the time of the last WC.
We can continue to reel stats off but imo not qualifying for the round of 16 is not worth abandoning our playing philosophy for.

It’s too shortsighted.

If we do qualify, and I hope we do, then Bert’s appointment will have been a success.

The goals Dukes would have scored playing against Asian minnows....

What playing philosophy is that?

Conceding goals against the worst attacks in the world?

Are you talking about a possession based tactic? BVM employs a possession based tactic, we won the possession against Denmark and lost the possession 45/55 to France, not exactly a 70/30 counter attack style shift.

I don't know about you, but the qualifying series just gone is just about the worst I've seen the national side play since the late 80's.

In 2014 possession was 50%/50% vs Netherlands, 42%/58% against vs Spain, 35%/65% vs Chile.

Is this the playing philosophy that left us with only 15 clean sheets from 50 starts against mostly Asian opposition?

Is the philosophy to be complete sieves at the back?

With us drawing with Denmark, I would rather Peru have beaten France, meaning France then must attack and win against Denmark.
With France sitting on 6 points now, and Denmark on 4, our fate is no longer in our hands, I can see the two playing a safe game to take a point each, ensuring qualification.
If Peru had of beaten France, then no matter the result in the France/Denmark game, we had more of a likelyhood of getting in.

We have to beat Peru regardless, but it means nothing if France and Denmark draw or Denmark win. We are now relying on France to go 100% and get the win to have any chance.

I wonder if BVM was actually content with the draw. Let's face it, the changes weren't aggressive - especially bringing on Irvine for Rogic. Maybe he was worried about the Danes getting a late one which would have sent us out. Would've been lovely to get the win, but I wonder if he thought that a win against Peru with the French beating the Danes was our most likely opportunity. It's sure nice to still be alive going into game 3.

I saw snippets of his post match and he didn't seem too pleased. Mind you, he has seemed quite short with the media ever since he took over.

He seems guarded with the media. I guess it's all well and good to be critical and say we should have brought on Timmy (as I have been) but if we get through then the proof is in the pudding.

Watched every game in this group compared to some others. Sad to see Peru go, they brought a lot to this tournament despite having scored no goals. Along with Morocco, harsh to see them effectively knocked out so early.

Australia once again fill me with pride. Everything in that match also seemed to be panning out nicely. The limited (and therefore wasteful) run-with Kruse subbed for the talented Arzani. A seeming reason to bring Cahill on in the closing stages (can understand why not, but gee it was worth the gamble). Denmark's main playmaker subdued. Jedinak (only really out there now for penalties and structure) scored a goal. Like against France, we got on top in play, even if we lacked the winning edge a star attack could bring. Mooy, Leckie, Lainsbury continue to win the hearts. Leckie embodies Australian values of play. Mooy is tireless, reliable, overwhelms. Behich had a marvelous cross, and Rogic looked a little better.

Some of Denmark's stars also had their moments. Erickson when on is marvelous. The keeper Jnr is one of the finest in the tournament. Sisto continues to intrigue. Given Sisto's yellow and the missed next game for Poulsen, a loss was starting to look very costly for Denmark going forward in the group.

Denmark, Switzerland and Uruguay are interesting types that could one nil their way deep into the tournament, but the Aussies certainly raised enough questions about Denmark's prospects.

Keep them honest. Keep your feet. That's the Socceroos way. I am proud of how the Aussies have performed, much more so than in 2014. We seem to have better depth as well. Would be nice to get a goal without relying on a handball and Jedinak penalty, but our general play has been rousing.

Samesies - add me to the club who thought he was invisible after the first 20 minutes.

And Rogic our best!?!

It was a fine performance last night but it feels like ever since Adam was a boy we have had good keepers, CB's and DMs - a couple of speedy wing backs but generally have dogshit strikers and attacking midfielders. Cahill appears to have been a once a century poacher for us and he is basically a walking corpse these days.
Cahill only became a striker later in his career really. And no, we haven't lacked for quality strikers and attacking mids in the past. 2006 WC squad: Kewell, Viduka, Aloisi, Kennedy, Thompson, Bresiano, Cahill, Sterjovski, Culina, Skoko. That's some quality depth.

Also worth noting that most of those guys are around the same age as Cahill. Maybe that could be why he's stuck on the bench...

I just had a look back at a few. Ooof, his left foot was so good. Bresciano scored some very nice goals for Parma and Palermo as well.

Im putting trust in the fact France wishes to top its group to avoid a red hot Croatia
