No - he refused the changes they wanted to make to his coaching staff and he didn't want to base himself in Saudi Arabia in the lead up to the World Cup. They couldn't agree so they parted ways.

The Saudis poached Bauza (former Argentina national coach) from the UAE to replace him, but ended up sacking Bauza 2 months later after a series of losses in international friendlies.
