So Australia failed by playing slow possession football. Germany failed by slow possession forward. Korea just got numbers forward and played it fast. Hence the result. Something to ponder for Australia

Small problem- you need blokes up front that can score to do that. We have no one. Kruse is awful, Juric is laughable, McKlaren wasn’t played much and Cahill is on his last legs at 38. The reality is we can say “let play it fast up forward” but we need competent strikers- we have none.

2006: Italy WIN World Cup
2010: Italy OUT at Group Stage

They're going a bit early. Will look pretty stupid if Brazil bottle it too
At least, they would have laughed. If we are kicked early, and they were quite, they missed the opportunity!

Unbelievable couple of results.

Sweden thumping Mexico (when a draw seemed the most likely result) and South Korea beating Germany. South Korea's one genuine matchwinner steps up.

Whatever other problems the Korean National Team have, at least they have one good finisher. We don't.

I can't imagine the reactions in Germany right now. Spain also crashed out at the 2014 World Cup in the group stages, and Italy before them in 2010 (France also crashed out in 2002 after winning in 1998). Seems like being reigning WC champions is a poisoned chalice ATM.
The last defending champion to qualify out of the group stage was Brazil 1994/2002!

The last not-Brazil champions to qualify was Germany in 1994.

Refs continue to be incompetent. Fastest ever World Cup yellow card given (0'13") in #MEXSWE for an elbow to the back of the head when it was actually a clash of heads.
